I checked out the Talbots Friends & Family May event as they were stocking in my local stores. I found so many things I like in this collection – loads of linen, fresh florals, feminine details, classic pocket tees, vibrant colors and muted neutrals, too. But they have so much more availability online, so I’ll be placing my order today for a few more things. I want to make shopping online easy for you, too, so let me provide you with a little fit information before we get started.
Sizing at Talbots
Talbots carries a wide range of sizes from 0 to 24 in misses, petite, petite plus and plus offerings. I am 5’8″ and weigh about 160 pounds. I generally wear a size 10 misses or mediums at Talbots. And everything I’m showing here runs true to size.
What I Found in the Talbots Friends & Family May Event

I’ve enjoyed wearing Talbots linen for years and usually opt for their white selections. But this year, since browns are still on trend and available, I selected this classic linen single button blazer in branch brown, as well as the coordinating classic linen straight ankle pants.

They’re both also available in indigo blue. And you can get them in misses, petite, plus and plus petites. However, the pants are going fast in the petite sizes. They have a true high rise and I love the straight silhouette and the clean fly front with concealed hook & bar closure.

As you can see the jacket sleeves run a little long, but it’s still very on trend just to give them a casual roll or fold up. For this first look I’ve worn the jacket over a pink ribbed tank, also from Talbots. The tank comes in over a dozen colors and neutrals.

I completed the look with “jelly heels” and a feminine wicker lady bag. Neither are from Talbots, but you’ll find some lovely footwear and handbag options in their spring collection.
A Monochromatic Look in Branch
I’m excited to style the new branch classic linen ankle pants in a variety of ways through the spring and summer. I do think I’ll probably enjoy wearing them with pink, as I did above, as well as turquoise, soft lavender and even red. But next I’m showing how I styled them with a branch brown textured crewneck pullover.

This luxurious feeling hip length sweater is 100% cotton and silky soft. It fits nicely true to size and provides a visually pleasing monochromatic line with the linen pants. It’s also available in indigo blue, so you could create a similar look with the indigo linen pants as well. And it comes in ivory, lavender dawn and vista blue, too.

I’ve completed all of my looks today with a coin necklace and a pearl necklace from Gorjana and mini knocker earrings from Electric Picks. But Talbots does have some pretty jewelry options for spring, too.

I think this monochromatic option is a nice outfit for many work environments, as well as a conference, luncheon or church. You could add a pop of color with a handbag or scarf like this one or this one.
Another Simple Spring & Summer Suit
And finally I have styled both the jacket and the pants again, this time with a striped, ribbed tee.

Especially when paired with the ivory handbag, I think the scoop neck tee in branch and white makes the matching separates look easy and casual, but also crisp and polished.

The tee fits generously true to size. It’s not tight at all. And I do have the bottom doubled up under to give me better proportions with the ankle length pants. It’s available in a full range of sizes and also in indigo and white so again you could create a similar look with the indigo pants and blazer.

Blessed for My Day
Yesterday in my Clothed in Grace Bible study for my YT membership community, we talked about the Garment of Calling as seen in the story of Esther. When Esther “put on her royal robes and stood in the inner court of the king’s palace in front of the king’s rooms” without invitation, she was stepping into her God-given calling. Thousands of years later we have no doubt, as we read Esther’s story, that she indeed “attained royalty for such a time as this.” But in the fearful moments leading up to the king extending his royal scepter towards her, I’m sure she did not feel so certain.
But certainty is not required for obedience. And that lack of certainty sometimes causes us to disobey God’s calling and miss His blessings. Instead we have to learn to lean into trust. We don’t have to be certain of the outcome or the ways and means. We only need to trust that God will handle the process as we put one step in front of the other. Courage isn’t the absence of fear, but the commitment and determination to step out regardless of it. What has God called you to for such a time as this? Are you stepping up in obedience?
Then Mordecai told them to reply to Esther, “… who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?”
Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai, “Go, assemble all the Jews who are found in Susa, and fast for me; do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my maidens also will fast in the same way. And thus I will go in to the king, which is not according to the law; and if I perish, I perish.”
What happened to “Mimi Monday”?
