Happy Friday! Another spring week is coming to a close and it’s time for me to ‘fess up about how I really got dressed for my day this week. I’m sharing the real life outfits I wore for all the things, from working in my home office to going to church, from going to dinner with my husband to speaking to a women’s group at a luncheon. Here’s how I really dressed for my day this week.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

I like to focus on why I wore what I wore and how I put my looks together in these weekly posts. So I may not call out each item shown. You’ll find links to anything that is available in the captions under the photos. I’ll also share fit information there IF the garment doesn’t fit true to size (TTS). I try to be transparent about gifting; gifted items are indicated with a C/O beside them, meaning they were given to me “courtesy of” that brand. Finally, I’m 5’8″ and about 160 pounds, so I normally wear a misses 10. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape.

What I Wore Last Friday

Fridays are often my day to catch my breath a little. Even though I need to put in a few hours at my desk in preparation for the next week, I feel the pressure of the week rise off my shoulders a bit. Can you relate? On this day I dressed in a mixture of subdued tones and soft textures.

cardigan sweater // pants (c/o) (use code KAY15 for 15% off) // loafers are no longer available // earrings (c/o) // necklace no longer available

My villa pink cashmere cardigan runs a little small. I’m wearing my usual medium, but I wish it fit more like the model’s, a little roomier. So I would size up in this pretty sweater. It does come in other colors, too. I wore this soft, feminine cardigan over the Rebel straight crop cargo pants for a little juxtaposition. The suede loafers felt like the perfect punctuation mark for this outfit.

What I Wore Saturday

I spent the first part of Saturday catching up on housework in my pajamas (this top and these bottoms). But mid afternoon, after my walk, I showered and changed into these new separates from Varley. The colors in the top remind me of Neapolitan ice cream. 🍨

sweater tank c/o (more availability here) // trouser pants (sized up to large) // exact loafers are no longer available // beaded necklace // pendant necklace

I guess I didn’t bother to steam the pants before wearing them. Oops! But I didn’t go anywhere that evening. After a day of feeling a little grungy and disheveled I just wanted to feel and look more polished and pulled together. These super comfortable separates from Varley did the trick. The Jayla wide leg trousers are constructed in a soft woven fabric and I wear a size large in those. They have a polished front with an elasticized waistband in the back. And the Neapolitan colored sweater tank works equally well with my lightweight Varley Kayson pants in taupe stone.

Sunday’s OOTD

Sunday we went to church and then straight home for me to get to work on editing this week’s YouTube video. Interestingly, I actually kept on this comfortable and pretty Haarlem dress while I worked. It just feels so good, I had no desire to change clothes.

dress // tote no longer available // heels (use code KAY15 for 15% off) // earrings (c/o) // beaded necklace // pendant necklace

I think the Lizzie Fortunato mini organic hoops work beautifully with this dress, adding just a touch of color near the face while I kept the other accessories soft and neutral. By the way, I’m absolutely loving those M.Gemi Lisinda slingback kitten heels. This isn’t the last you’ll see of them this week! I’ve worn them all day long several days now, and they are super comfortable and soft on the foot. The heel is just 1.4″ and the strap stays on my foot beautifully as I move through the day. You can use code KAY15 at M.Gemi for 15% off all styles.

What I Wore Monday

Mondays are always a little challenging for me, especially if I have to work on Sunday afternoons and evenings. So I generally ease into the week with something comfortable, but polished. My outfit needs to “self soothe” a bit, but it also needs to motivate me to start the week off well.

top // pants (c/o) // sneakers // earrings // necklace

So I wore my Varley rolled cuff pants in rich raspberry with the coordinating Adria half-zip top. I put on my Paul Green sneakers so I could get out for an additional quick walk in the afternoon. I’ve started walking a few miles each day in the mornings, but also getting out for what I call “quick walks” once or twice in the afternoon or evening, too. I’ve heard from multiple sources recently that it’s really bad for us to just sit after eating, and instead we should take a quick walk. So I just saunter (not dash!) down the street and back after most meals.

How I Dressed for My Day Tuesday

Tuesday I started shooting the photos for yesterday’s spring and summer try-on session blog post. Afterwards I chose to stay in these chic but casual Vince separates. I purchased them when they were marked down 25% about a month ago, and it hadn’t been warm enough to wear them yet. We’ve had some toasty weather this week, so they seemed like the perfect choice for a work-from-home day.

polo top // pants // loafers // earrings // necklace

I finished the look with my M.Gemi Una loafers. These fit nicely and feel super soft on the foot. But I am hoping they stretch just a tad with wear. If not, I’m going to try to stretch them manually. The leather is buttery soft so I am confident they will give a little either with wear or with a shoe stretcher. I feel like my feet have gotten a little wider with age. Anyone else? So, whereas I used to have a medium width foot and still can’t really wear most wide sizes, I need just a little more room in a lot of shoes I try on. Anyhow, I’ve ordered the stretcher and I’ll keep you posted.

What I Wore Wednesday

You may remember that I posted my initial wardrobe plan for my upcoming May trip to London and the Cotswolds a couple of weeks ago. I also asked for advice from women who’ve visited those places in May and specifically those who may have done a little hiking. Well I got a LOT of advice! And I welcomed all of it. I may take or leave a few bits, but I’ve considered it all. So I’ve been shuffling things around a bit. For instance, I did purchase these full length hiking pants and these socks for our days “walking” in the Cotwolds since a couple of people have enlightened me on the terrible “sting” of the nettles, which evidently grow in abundance along the path. 😬

top // pants // flats (c/o) (Use code KAYFLATS for 10% off at Ally on your first pair of flats.) // earrings (c/o) // necklace not available

Anyhow, back to my OOTD, as I’ve been shuffling through that clothes rack, I’ve been jumping at the chance to wear these pretty bi-stretch demi boot ankle pants with the vibrant knit V-neck front wrap top. So I wore it for a polished WFH look on Wednesday. It’s a very comfortable duo and I loved the bold colors, especially worn in this monochromatic look. I finished the outfit with my Ally flats, which I’m definitely taking to London. I’m still thinking about the daiquiri pants, but the top is going, too. This combo was perfect for a casual dinner out, too.

How I Dressed for My Speaking Engagement Thursday

Thursday I had the privilege of speaking for the third time to the Cincinnati Stonecroft Women’s Connection group. I gave a brief message about building our wardrobes and then demonstrated with my three dress forms how to put together simple but effective outfits for our real, everyday lifestyles this spring and summer. I absolutely love doing these presentations for women’s groups, so if you ever need a similar talk, please reach out.

dress // heels // scarf // earrings (c/o) // paperclip bracelet // link bracelet

After the luncheon I needed to run a few errands and I ended up being out and about all day. I felt so comfortable and polished in this navy knit jacquard Daphne dress and my M.Gemi kitten heels. I accessorized with my brown, navy and red silk scarf and small door knocker earrings. (Of course I had on my Thigh Society slip shorts underneath! No need for shapewear here, but I don’t wear a dress or skirt without these lightweight, no-compression cooling shorts.)

And that’s how I really dressed for my day this week. I hope that gave you a few ideas for how to put together outfits you enjoy wearing, too. Let me know if you have questions. And thank you so much for stopping in today.

Blessed for My Day

We all have stressful times in our lives. Whether you’re dealing with bad news from a doctor or financial problems, a relationship shift or an upcoming move, life periodically throws us something that adds a burden, feels a little uncertain or forces us to try something new and unfamiliar. As believers we have to determine if we will handle those stressful situations the same way the rest of the world does or if we will walk through them God’s way.

The Lord acknowledges over and over in the Bible that life can feel a little scary at times. But we can choose to allow our fight or flight mechanism to take over or we can rest in the Lord’s provision. It’s natural to want to escape stress. And some of us naturally grow defensive and angry when hard times roll around. But God tells us that when we rest in His strength, we will be stronger for the good fight. That when we quiet our souls with His Word, we will be soothed. And when we trust in His provision, we will have the grace we need to move through this stressful situation with calm and fortitude.

“In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength…” ~ Isaiah 30:15

  1. I just wanted to say I really don’t know how you do it Kay. You work every day and trying on or demonstrating different outfits is tiring in itself.
Thanks for posting everyday although I am sure your followers, like me, would understand if you took a day off.
    Well done to you.🙂

    1. Thank you Jane. Trying clothes on and changing in and out of outfits is fast becoming my least favorite thing. It is SO exhausting. So I really appreciate you saying so. 😉 It makes me want to retire soon. lol! But that will be at least a few more years down the road. I love writing the posts and I enjoy creating videos and talking through the content. But photos and videos of outfits is really tiring.

  2. Ink is your color. The Varley outfit looks amazing as does the Neapolitan outfit. You look nice in everything but especially those 2. Thanks for all your advice. I’ve ordered a fun straw bag for spring and summer and you’re so right about the nice ones quickly. I love London in the spring.

  3. I purchased the pant and knit top from Varley also. I had to chuckle when you said the top reminds you of Neapolitan ice cream. I remember my mom buying that type of ice cream when I was a kid so everybody got their favorite. My dad did not like chocolate ice cream and I didn’t care for strawberry and we would trade and we were both so happy. I thought the pants were a little tight in the waist. If I would have sized up though, I think they would have swallowed my petite frame. They were really high waisted and I don’t have the waist I use to. I have been dieting and hope to lose at least an 1/2 to 1 inch off my waist It is such a cute outfit.

    1. Yes, they are snigger in the waist on me than my other Varley pants. I would sizing were more consistent, at least within brands.
