Next week I’ll turn 60. What?!? Yes, it’s true. And I’m okay with it. Especially since my kids are all coming in to help us celebrate. So you better believe James and I are in full planning mode for a weekend of family fun. Since we’re all big collage basketball fans, we’ve decided to team up with Walmart to prep for a family big game party that Saturday. We were able to order everything we need from Walmart to make it a fun weekend for everyone. #sponsored

My son, daughter-in-law and daughter all went to the same university. And we all followed the basketball games like devoted fans while they were in school, even traveling to the end of season tournaments to root the men’s team on. So March is truly “mad” for us! And we still enjoy getting together when we can to watch the televised games. Our game this next weekend is on Saturday afternoon, so James and I have planned some fun party foods and ordered all the fun basketball party accessories from Walmart.

Party Accessories from Walmart

The basketball party decorations set I ordered from Walmart includes large “court” plates, small “basketball” plates, “basketball” napkins, orange plastic utensil, orange and white paper straws, tablecloth (not shown or used), a banner and cups (not shown or used). To add our team colors to our festive table, I purchased this blue tablecloth and red plastic party cups. I also purchased hot dog warming foil wrappers because how cool is that!?

James also decided this would be a good time to buy that air fryer we’ve been thinking about getting. We took the Instant Pot Vortex 5 Quart Single Basket 4-in-1 Air Fryer Oven for a test run yesterday and learned that we can easily prepare all our party food quite quickly and with minimal clean-up. Yes, we cooked the hot dog wieners and buns in the air fryer, and they were delicious. We also cooked chicken wings and tenders to a beautiful crispness, just perfect.

We’re using the Instant Pot Air Fryer to prepare chicken fingers, wings, meatballs and hotdogs, more than enough for our crew of six adults. I was amazed at how easy it is to use, and at how quick I could clean up afterwards. Plus, I think it will be a healthier way to prepare so many foods we love. The Instant Pot Air Fryer is normally $99, but right now it’s $79 at Walmart.com.

We used a recipe on the back of the bag of chicken wing drumettes to make a yummy peach barbecue sauce for the wings. We just combined a couple of the cups of diced peaches with a cup of original barbecue sauce in the blender (upgraded model same brand). Easy peasy.

After dredging the drumettes in onion soup mix, we tossed them in the barbecue sauce mixture then placed them in the Instant Pot Air Fryer for about 14 minutes. So easy! And they came out crunchy on the outside and tender and juicy (and completely done!) on the inside.

I also needed a new way to serve veggies and dip, so I ordered this collapsible party platter. I love that it has a lid so I can prepare the platter ahead of time, put it in the fridge and the pull it out and go straight to the table when it’s time to start the party.

And the collapsible party platter washes up easily after use, then collapses into a flat disk that can easily be stored in my limited cabinet space. I made a dip from sour cream and onion soup mix to dip veggies and chips.

James also ordered a custom decorated cake for our celebration. Did you know you can order customized sheet cakes, tiered cakes and cupcakes for your celebration online at Walmart.com? Yep! Sure can. In fact, I think that’s probably more reliable than giving the order to someone orally at the store. You just pick it up and enjoy! And you can schedule your cake up to 30 days in advance.

Not too long ago James and I finally invested in a good television at Walmart, too. Wow! What a difference a good television makes. Not only does the game look better on our 65″ Samsung TV, but you should see our favorite show about a country vet in the Dales on this screen! Our Samsung Soundbar ensures that we get pretty amazing sound quality, too.

I think the kids will really enjoy watching the game and munching on our big game day snacks. Afterwards we’ll probably play a game or just sit and visit. It’s so exciting to be prepping for their arrival.

Blessed for My Day

Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest impact. No. I take that back. It’s not sometimes; it’s frequently. I’m afraid I’m as guilty as the next person at discounting how much my words, actions, facial expressions and tone of voice can impact those around me. And it’s not just the person I’m speaking to that I affect, but also the people who are listening…or reading. Truly, little interactions speak volumes about our character and our motives.

Let’s try to remember today to be a blessing to those around us by using our words to encourage, show compassion, spread kindness and speak wisdom. And let’s remember that even the smallest interaction can having lasting impact. I want to be a woman who helps others to see Jesus more clearly. I know you want that, too.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. ~ John 13:34-35

xoxo, Kay

  1. Always love your devotional message. Words matter. Thanks for all the ideas. I do a lot of shopping at Walmart. My family gave me a surprise party on my 60th. It was a real surprise and will always remember it fondly. Now this year I’m going to be the big 70. I hope you share your party pictures.

    1. Oh, that sounds fun! How lovely. I’m just excited that they’re coming for the weekend. And I’ll definitely try to remember to take some photos. Surprisingly we are very bad about that. Ha!

  2. Everything looks very cute! Happy Birthday to you. And let us know at a later date how the food tastes. I’ve got a new air fryer too and just beginning to figure out what to cook in it.

  3. I thoroughly enjoy every part of your blog ever since I discovered you not all that long ago and all that you represent. May I ask what the lovely picture is of on your wall? I love historic homes in Charleston and New Orleans, after visiting there. Your picture certainly caught my eye. Happy Birthday and wishing you a joyful celebration. Our family enjoyed a wonderful brunch yesterday for my mother’s 99th birthday, honoring her as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great- grandmother. We are blessed to have her with us for as long as the good Lord allows. Thank you for all that you do and the hard work that goes into every post.

    1. How wonderful to celebrate your mother’s 99th birthday. Lovely! The picture is a street scene in Charleston. We purchased it on our honeymoon there in 1988. 🥰
