My Week in Summer Outfits

Happy Friday! I know so many of my readers like Fridays at Dressed for My Day because I frequently share a round-up of my most recent OOTDs on this day. Some weeks I have other things I need to share, so I skip that week. Or, quite honestly, we get to the end of the season and I’m just wearing the same ol’ things on repeat and nothing I’m wearing is available, so I don’t share on those weeks either. But this week I’m sharing a fairly interesting week in summer outfits. Plus, many of the items I’m wearing ARE available and several personal favorites are on sale. Yay!

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

Of the items that are on sale, several of them are marked final sale. I know that makes it a little scary to order, so I’m sharing detailed fit information about those. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask and I’ll keep a vigilant eye on the comment section today.

Friday’s outfit for “blog research” and lunch out

Friday I got out for a little “blog research.” Honestly at this point, after blogging for almost 8 years in this space, shopping is full-on business for me. I still enjoy it. But when I’m perusing the new arrivals or scouring the sales, I’m thinking of you more than me. So it may look like I’m window shopping when I walk through the mall, but I’m definitely conducting blog research. Ha!

silk blouse (TTS) // drawstring pants (more economical option) (wearing a large) // sandals & here// purse // earrings &necklace (c/o – use code KAY20 for 20% off sitewide) // bracelet

So last Friday I felt comfortable and cool, but also classy and pulled together in my silk blouse and drawstring pants (more economical option). I knew I wouldn’t be doing a lot of walking, so I opted for my heeled sandals. Those Vince drawstring pants are marked down, by the way, and they’re also available in a smoky moss. I’ve absolutely LOVED wearing them this spring and summer, and will still wear them into early fall. They are pricey, so I want you to get the sizing right if you opt to purchase them. I do not see a size guide on the Vince website, but there was one on the Nordstrom website when I purchased them (not available at Nordstrom now). Using the size guide, I opted for a large. If I were smaller in the hips and rear (my problem areas) the medium would have undoubtedly worked just fine. So hopefully that information helps. They do offer complimentary returns on this item and it’s NOT marked final sale.

I LOVE the combination of a silk blouse and drawstring trousers and I shared more about that outfit formula in this recent blog post.

Saturday’s outfit for recording a YouTube video

Saturday we shot this Wednesday’s YouTube video, so I spent most of the day trying on clothes and then shooting various misses and hits. But in the end I wore these linen pants and textured sweater vest to shoot the A roll, then I stayed in this comfortable outfit for the remainder of the evening.

J.Crew is still selling those linen pants at full price, but they’ve been worth the investment this summer. And I’ll undoubtedly wear the three pair I purchased again next year. But Ann Taylor does have the textured sweater vest marked down to just $22. It also comes in navy, and both are available in limited sizes in misses and petite fits.

Monday’s outfit for a photo shoot at the butterfly conservatory

Monday I was also in and out of outfits as I tried on new arrivals and prepped content. But early afternoon I put on this beautiful, comfortable black maxi dress (c/o) in lightweight Jude cloth. It was perfectly lovely to wear at home for working in my office. But I really had in mind our evening activity when I put it on.

James had purchased tickets for us to attend a butterfly photo shoot at the Krohn Conservatory. And guess what? He did that for you, too! He took some great shots and plans to give them to me for upcoming inner beauty blog posts. So you’ll see some soon. Before the two-hour photo shoot in a warm and humid conservatory (whew!) we had dinner at a favorite barbecue restaurant. And after the shoot I convinced him we needed an ice cream to cool off. Hahaha! Oh, the dress! It fits true to size beautifully and I shared more details in this blog post.

Tuesday’s outfit for working at home

Tuesday I was just working all day. I wanted to be comfortable but still feel pulled together. I wore my yellow linen pants (same as the black ones, but lined) with a white linen popover top for an easy, breezy look.

top (sized down to small) also available HERE // yellow linen pants (TTS) // sandals // necklace (c/o – use code KAY20 for 20% off) // earrings

I did give the top a front tuck, I think. Or I may have tucked it in all the way around. I really don’t remember and can’t tell from the photos above. Today I’m wearing that same top with other linen pants and I’ve left it untucked. It’s fairly short, so it works well both ways. You can see me wear this top untucked in Wednesday’s YouTube video shown below. The top is not marked down yet, but it is still available in sizes XXS to 3X here and most sizes here.

Wednesday’s outfit for going out to dinner

I spent most of Wednesday, once again, trying on clothes and shooting photos and videos. But that afternoon I ended up in this chic Veronica Beard button-front dress (c/o) since we had a dinner date with a dear friend that night. I also have this dress in black, but they give completely different vibes. This stone khaki dresses down beautifully with flat sandals, but of course I could wear heels and level up, too.

I was so pleased with myself when I thought to use my navy Tory bag with cognac trim for the evening. It was the perfect addition of color for this otherwise neutral outfit. The dress (c/o) is on FINAL sale, so again I want to share size information. I have both colors in the size 10 and they work really well for me. The fabric is a stretch cotton so it has some give. I’d neglected to exercise much for the past couple of weeks (but got back on it this week!), so I was feeling a little puffy in my midsection. But the dress still fit comfortably. So I suggest going with you usual size, and if you waffle between two, go with your higher size. A more generous fit will still give you a nice silhouette. Oh, the dress comes with a same-fabric sash, but I always swap in a leather belt.

Thursday’s outfit for running errands

Thursday I needed to get out to run a few errands and otherwise just work from home. I wanted to wear a dress, so I opted for my Me+Em mixed media polo dress. Because my errands would include a good bit of walking I wore my Tretorn sneakers. I have several pairs of fashion sneakers at this point, but I really love the streamlined look and the navy detailing on these.

The sneakers are not marked down, but they’re a good value. I really don’t expect them to be marked down any time soon because they’re such a sharp shoe for fall as well. But the navy and white striped dress is reduced slightly and even more dramatically in the solid orange and solid black options (50% off), which are really chic. I wear a true to size (TTS) 10 in the dress. This mixed media style has been very on trend this spring and summer, and I expect it to hang in there for at least another year or more.

Thursday evening’s outfit for a posh picnic

Thursday evening James and I attended a “posh picnic” at the Peterloon Estate in Indian Hill. I had really intended to wear this beautiful linen dress I just recently got in from J.McLaughlin. But the weather was so iffy. It was very hot and muggy, and we had thunderstorms in the forecast, too. So I decided the dress was a little too close to my body. It fits nicely, true to size. But it just sits close to the body. Know what I mean?

linen shirt (sized down to small) // linen pants (sized down to small) // straw tote // necklace stack // sandals and here

So I felt like I would be more comfortable in something looser. I opted for my Eileen Fisher green linen pants with the blue linen shirt. I love this outfit. I feel confident and pretty in it. Plus the loose fitting garments really do feel cooler and more comfortable on a sticky, hot day. Even though a lot of the attendees were wearing pretty dresses at the picnic, I was happy with my choice and received several compliments on it. Again, because I didn’t know what to expect as far as terrain and weather, I chose to wear my Naot Dorith sandals since they have good traction and walkability. I felt like the gold straps kept this look fun and event-appropriate.

The posh picnic was a lot of fun, by the way. It was very hot, but we enjoyed people watching, listening to the live music, tasting the treats provided from food and beverage vendors and walking through the historic (unairconditioned!) house. I shared a little bit of footage from the event on my Instagram stories.

In case you didn’t know, you can always access (and shop, if you desire) my current wardrobe through the top menu entry that reads KAY’S CURATED CLOSET. But I’m going to share it in a shopping widget below today, too. All of the garments and accessories (that are available) that I showed today are in there. Just scroll to see all of the items. And remember, many of these items were gifted to me by the brands.

Have a great Friday! Thank you so much for stopping in for a little style inspiration.

Blessed for My Day

Dear sister in Christ, do not fear or be dismayed by the hard thing you are facing. Be strong and courageous! How? Remember that the enemy of your soul is indeed a strong force to reckon with. Whether he has beset you with difficulties rooted quite simply in evil or he is trying to derail your faith as you walk through a hard season ordained by God, Satan will undoubtedly pull out all stops to throw you off course. He has come to kill, steal and destroy and he is armed to win.

BUT greater is the One with you than the one who seeks to harm you. Your Lord God will help you to stay standing and He will even fight your battles for you. You can rely on this truth. That means you can now face your day with that courage and strength. Go forth without fear. You’ve got this. Now watch and see what God does on your behalf this very day.

“Be strong and courageous, do not fear or be dismayed because of the king of Assyria nor because of all the horde that is with him; for the one with us is greater than the one with him. With him is only an arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people relied on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah. ~ 2 Chronicles 32:7-8

  1. I always like to see what you have worn each day and how you have put your outfits together. You looked lovely each day. I was going to say which I particularly liked but couldn’t differentiate as they are all great. Have a lovely weekend.

  2. Thank you for explaining the rationale behind your daily choices – so many factors go into what we wear (yeah, my husband puzzles over that one – chinos and a polo shirt, a blazer or shorts as required – how hard is it to get dressed, ha, ha?!?). You had a busy week!

  3. I’m reading this on Saturday. The BFMD is really needed right now for me. As usual cute outfits. I like the Ann Taylor vest and am considering buying it in navy.
