During the fall I love adding on the layers. But when the cold days of winter arrive, I’m more likely to keep my outfit formula more simple to accommodate a winter coat when I head outside. But I won’t need to wait until it’s cold to wear this favorite winter outfit formula because these new sweaters from Kohl’s are lightweight, so soft and beautiful. I’m sharing four new sweaters, two great pairs of jeans and some winning boots…all from Kohl’s!

Exactly what is my favorite winter outfit formula? It’s probably one shared by many of my readers: a great sweater + comfortable jeans + fabulous booties. So simple, but effortlessly stylish and appropriate for most any casual occasion.
This favorite winter outfit formula definitely begins with a great pair of jeans. I’m wearing the Simply Vera Vera Wang stretch bootcut jeans in the indigo Peyton wash, a mid-wash with fading on the thighs. They fit so nicely true to size; I’m wearing a regular 10, but they do come in short and long sizes, too. Note that I’m 5’8″ and these regular length jeans work nicely on me with an almost 2″ heel.
The stretch bootcut jeans are available in other washes and I’m showing another one with two other sweaters. But sizes are going fast in these jeans.
Next in the equation, a pretty sweater. This loose weave mock neck sweater from Lauren Conrad fits the bill. I love the windchill heather blue I’m wearing, but it also comes in several other nice colors.
And the final component in my favorite winter outfit formula is, of course, great booties. I love that Kohl’s has so many brands we are familiar with and love. But these sugar Envoy booties were new to me. Quite honestly, I was a little wary that the quality would not be great. Nothing could be further from the truth.
The sugar Envoy booties fit true to size, “walk” beautifully and feel great on my feet. Now these booties are not leather, but they definitely feel and look like leather. They’re a great option if you want to keep your costs down but your style quotient high.
I’m wearing a flesh-toned camisole underneath so that I can wear it “alone,” but you can also unbutton the sweater and wear it over a simple tee. The button-front ribbed puffed-sleeve sweater fits nicely true to size; I’m wearing a medium.
Because I like to keep my contrast in intensity minimal in my outfits, I swapped in the Simply Vera Vera Want boot-cut jeans in Glassgow wash to wear with my dark brown sweater. You can see that they’re not extremely dark, but I do think this deeper wash looks nice with the brown sweater. Sometimes different washes can feel and fit differently within a product line, but these do not. They fit just the same as the mid-wash jeans.
I have a couple of notes on the outfit above. The button-front ribbed puffed-sleeve sweater does work nicely over the Simply Vera Vera Want boot-cut jeans as far as length goes. But I do think wearing the tank was a good idea for full range of motion. Also, doesn’t the silhouette of that puffed-sleeve sweater work nicely to help create an hourglass shape? Unless you already have wide shoulders, this sweater can really help balance your waist and a pair of boot-cut or wide-leg jeans.
And for my final rendition of my favorite winter outfit formula, I opted for a brighter color in my sweater.
What about you? Do you wear my favorite winter outfit formula frequently, too? Most of us won’t have to wait until winter to wear these outfits from Kohl’s. All the sweaters are fairly lightweight and super soft.

Recently – well for the past month or so – I’ve had a little “situation” that doesn’t seem to be resolving. I won’t bother spilling the beans about it; the situation is really minor in the grand scheme of things and not pertinent to what I want to share. Besides, I figure we all have our little situations going on. Right?
This morning I finally truly sought the Lord’s wisdom on the matter. I know, I know. Why has it taken me so long? I still don’t have answers, but I feel confident I’ll get to the bottom of this eventually. Meanwhile, I’m seeking the Lord and asking for wisdom, knowledge and perspective. Do you need to take your situation to the Lord so He can shed a little light on it, too?
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. ~ Proverbs 9:10
