My Favorite Elevated Spring Outfit Formula in Color

I’m a blazer gal through and through. So when the frigid days of winter morph into cool days of spring I immediately begin to reach for blazers to complete my outfits. My favorite elevated spring outfit formula is a pretty blazer worn over a graphic tee and jeans. Today I’m sharing that elevated spring outfit formula in color. And I’ve got additional style boards to serve as prompts if you want to create this look from your own closet, along with a Kay’s Look for Less.

My Favorite Elevated Spring Outfit Formula in Color

If you were to look back over my spring blog posts throughout the last few years, you’d undoubtedly find other examples of my favorite elevated spring outfit formula: a sharp blazer over a graphic tee and jeans.

But I’m not sure I’ve ever shown this favorite formula in quite as much color as I have in this outfit. This spring and summer, greens of all shades continue to trend. So this Veronica Beard Blazer (& here) drew me in the minute I saw it. I dumped all of my Nordy notes to purchase this Miller dickey jacket!

Veronica Beard Blazer & here

I have several Miller dickey jackets because this best-selling, double-breasted silhouette just works for me. I do size down from my usual 10 to an 8 in these jackets. I think this lemon grass shade is so cheerful and eye-catching. But the jacket comes in several other pretty colors right now, including this persimmon (perfect for women who prefer warm tones) and a beautiful (hold me back!) soft lilac.

For this elevated spring outfit formula I wore the lemon grass green Veronica Beard blazer over a cheerful butterfly tee (also available here). The tee runs a little small so I sized up to a large. It’s available in a really fun black, too.

To create a modern rendition of this elevated spring outfit formula, I wore my favorite high rise denim trouser jeans in the rose lark wash. They have a 32″ inseam, so they’re perfect to wear with heels. (I’m 5’8″) The trouser jeans also come in petite and tall sizes, but it looks like they’re all on pre-order. I wore old mules and added a skinny belt.

I think cognac accessories help pull this outfit together beautifully. And coordinating my belt, shoes and bag make the look cohesive but not overly styled. I wore shiny gold jewelry from Julie Vos here, mainly because on this particular day I also took photos with this dress, which features bright gold buttons.

While the high rise denim trouser jeans are indeed on sale, I know this is a very pricey outfit. But that doesn’t mean you can’t create the same look with my favorite elevated spring outfit formula at lower price points. Pull a colorful blazer and graphic tee from your closet to put together a similar look. Or shop the Kay’s Look for Less below for an almost identical look at a lower price.

Just to get your creative juices flowing even more, I’ve got two more style inspiration boards below with that same elevated spring outfit formula and different colored jackets. You can also shop these looks through the links in the captions.

The Tahari blazer above comes in seven colors! Or if you really prefer a double-breasted blazer, you might want to check out this pretty Tahari blazer in a lovely sunset coral.

You can also duplicate my look with a more breathable linen blazer through the summer. The style board below features a pretty stretch linen blazer from J.Crew. Swap in a graphic tee for a cheerful look, but I still love a classic white tee under a blazer, too.

I hope you got a little style inspiration today. Thanks so much for stopping in. Share with me in the comments about YOUR favorite elevated spring outfit formula. I would love to hear what you enjoy wearing when you want to look a little special on a pretty spring day.

Blessed for My Day

Easter, like Christmas, has become highly commercialized. But you and I know it is more than eggs and bunnies, ham and asparagus, new dresses and hats. Easter is when we celebrate that we have a risen Savior who paid a debt we could not pay so that we can have eternal life. What a powerful celebration that is!

If you have the opportunity to share that simple but extremely profound message with someone this Easter – perhaps as you sit across from them at brunch or deliver a lily to their door – don’t be shy about it. Some will reject the gospel message. But others are actually looking for it…and maybe don’t know it. This is a wonderful weekend to spread the good news of the cross and the empty grave.

For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. ~ 1 Corinthians 1:18

xoxo, Kay

  1. I love the colour combinations you show
The pink blazer is so pretty
I have a linen blazer in oatmeal which is my go to as a finishing or completer jacket for lots of outfits
Your videos and blog posts are so inspirational and useful to me as a 75 year old woman
    Many thanks regards Gloria

  2. Hi Kay! I really like this outfit and the pops of color. This beautiful shade of green in your VB blazer is gorgeous! Thank you for explaining your thoughts in putting together outfits, and also for letting us know what substitutions we can make with items we already own or may feel more confident in. Have a wonderful Easter!❤️

  3. I love the pink Tahari blazer and the strip tshirt. Pink is my color. Thank you Kay for all your wonderful blogs and videos. I have really upgraded my wardrobe and fashion sense.

  4. I’m with you completely on this one! I have been loving my Quince blazer since you recommended it as a more affordable option to the original Miller Dickey. A big thank you for that.

  5. I love all of these beautiful combinations and hope to implement a few of them with things from my closet. As usual, Kay, you are an inspiration and blessing!

  6. I don’t have any blazers but I am really liking this green one. I have done color analysis so this green is one of my colors. It is so cute paired with the jeans too. Thanks!

  7. I love the pops of color. My way of recreating this look with what’s in my closet is to pair a plaid blazer w a striped top. It’s not for everyone but it works for me. Enjoyed the blessed for my day as well.

  8. The blazer and trouser jean look, love it! Personally I’d wear a top without any graphics, they’re just not my thing. I can see you in that lilac blazer as well, just saying, not trying to tempt you! 🙂

  9. Happy Easter to you and your family. Thank you for the beautiful outfit inspiration. I don’t own a blazer, but they sure give an authoritative image.

  10. Thanks for the Easter message. I love the butterfly tee. The elevated spring look with the green jacket is gorgeous.

  11. Those Spring outfits are so pretty. I never realized how much a jacket or a cardigan could help make an outfit more stylish. I hope you have a Wonderful Easter!! He is Risen!!!

  12. A blazer is just not my thing…..a cute sweater or wrap over a spring dress or with pants or jeans with a cute tee works best for me. A blazer seems too dressy and even somewhat masculine for me but looks great on you. To each his own as you say!

  13. Kay,
Love the green on you…it makes your eyes really pop! I love color and beautiful spring colors are so pretty. You look great in everything Thank you for all,you do and for the “saver” suggestions!

  14. Love this outfit formula! I used to wear blazers when I worked all the time and stopped wearing them when I stopped working. I still have all of them. Might need to bring them out and try it your way! Your outfit is adorable! The green looks absolutely stunning on you!

  15. Love the outfit formula! Looking forward to wearing my Quince navy scuba blazer when spring finally arrives in the mountains of Colorado! Here comes more snow😁

  16. I love this look on you. If I was still working, I would snap it up. I spend more time in white pants and lightweight tops in our SE Texas heat. Not even the AC keeps me cool enough for a completer piece.

  17. Kay, the blazer/jeans/tee formula is one of my favorites! The lemon grass blazer, paired with wide leg jeans, looks so fresh and modern! Thanks for sharing!

  18. That green is gorgeous! But with my autumn coloring, the persimmon would be perfect for me!! Thx for showing it.

    Sending Easter Blessings ✝️

  19. I bought a Veronica Beard blazer last Spring in a lilac color. It is so beautiful! Be still my heart. Yes, it was spendy but can wear with or without dickey insert and is so well made and tailored that I will be able to wear it for years to come. Blazers are my weakness too. Loved the BFMD and what it means. Have a wonderful Easter Sunday. God bless.

  20. Those boots looks great with that outfit and will keep you feet warm with cool spring weather. Thanks so much for the idea because I have put my boots away but pulled out some navy booties to go with my navy pants for a dinner that is being hosted outside. Love your ideas!

  21. Thank you for the style inspirations. The green blazer looks good on you. The jeans are my favorite jeans. I have similar ones in a darker denim and black.

  22. What a pretty spring color that blazer is! Thanks for spelling out how to get a look – can’t make an outfit formula too simple for me to understand! Happy Easter!

  23. The VB green blazer is gorgeous on you! I’m petite so the VB Hosanna blazer is a good cut for my proportions. My favorite outfit formula is wearing a column of the same color under a blazer. Happy Easter!
