Fall is in full swing, but you and I know that means that temperatures fluctuate wildly. It’s all about layering on style for the next couple of months, so you can easily add or take off the warmth. That’s just one reason I think a denim or chambray button-up is a must-have versatile shirt for your fall wardrobe.

Not only does this versatile shirt layer nicely over and under other things in your wardrobe, but this classic blue goes with so many other colors, too.

Since other fun colors, like wine or burgundy, garnet red, shades of green and chocolate brown, are taking center stage this year, it’s nice to have a chambray shirt to balance those pigmented pieces in your outfit. I love the way this Frank & Eileen vintage stonewashed indigo denim shirt kind of grounds my claret red wide leg pants.

Of course, you can also wear a chambray or denim shirt:
- over a tee or tank & unbuttoned
- under a sweater
- under a vest
- with a skirt
- under a jumper dress
- with joggers
- with jeans – blue, black, ivory, etc.
- with dressier trousers
- with cords
- and there’s probably more!

What’s the difference between a denim shirt and a chambray shirt? Generally, not much. You’ll see the same types of shirts called one or the other. But a true denim shirt is generally a little heavier, whereas a chambray shirt is often lighter. But both are basically cotton shirts. You’ll find them fitted, boxy, long, short, with buttons, with snaps, with front pockets and without. And if you prefer, you can also find them with more bows and ruffles instead of straight lines.
Here are a few other ways I’ve worn mine in the past…

By the way, I love these claret Emmett wide leg pants from Madewell shown again below. They fit true to size; I’m wearing a 30 standard fit. If I wanted to wear them with heels, as shown on their website, I’d have to opt for the tall fit. They do come in petite sizes, too. And they have plus sizes as well. I think the claret is lovely (my photograph represents the color better than theirs does), but they come in navy and brown also.

I’ve gathered up a wide assortment of versatile chambray and denim shirts in the boutique below. They’re at all of your favorite stores, and there’s truly one for everyone.

Blessed for My Day
Friday was one of those days… I sat with James for coffee and we shared our plans for the day. Then the day happened…completely differently. Ha! Not only does that sometimes throw me for a loop, but it also frustrates me. I long to have control over my day and check off my to-do list.
But the Bible tells us more than once to hold those plans loosely because we have little to no control over our days. Yes, it’s smart to have a plan. But we must resist the urge to cling to those plans too tightly. Sometimes God has a better plan…even if it doesn’t seem like it at the moment. And when we stubbornly cling to how we’ve mapped out the day, we may just miss the best part yet.
Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring. ~ Proverbs 27:1

Whew! That’s a lot of options for denim or chambray shirts. Thanks for doing all the research. Glad you enjoyed Door County. It is a beautiful area.
That’s a lot of denim! Got to say, demin always looks great and is always in style.
Thanks for the message. I get bend out of shape when my plans don’t work out. I did manage to control myself when it happened Thursday. It wasn’t a big deal and I kept my mouth shut. Thanks for all your styling tips. It’s still summer in Texas. A little cool in the morning and back to 90’s in the afternoon. At home I’m still wearing tank tops and shorts. I wish it would get cooler so I can start wearing my jeans again.
I love the verse Proverbs 16:9 “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps”. We have to be careful not to get ahead of God! He has plans for us.
