Greetings! Today on Dressed for My Day I’m showing you an outfit that is one of my fall favorites to date. I love the colors, the style and the comfort of this wear-to-work…or anywhere else…look. See if you like these marled knit wide leg crop pants as much as I do.

***Sale Alert! Ann Taylor is having a two-day sale where everything is 40% off and shipping is free! The top and pants in today’s post are both from Ann Taylor.***

This summer when I first started styling wide leg crop pants I learned that the key is pairing them with a fitted top. You can see the difference here when I styled wide leg crop pants with a loose tee and when I styled the same pants here with a fitted sweater top. Huge difference! The fitted top helps you achieve balance since the pant legs are wide.

This soft stretchy knit top is a faux wrap and leaves no room for any gaping. It’s also available in a navy heather and a true black, which would look great with these pants, too. This top is soooo comfortable!

These marled knit pants are extremely comfortable, but they’re still dressy and stylish. No frump here! I paired them with my grey faux snake skin pumps, but I think they would look lovely with these suede pumps in either portobello or black. These suede pumps with a tassel are also a great choice, but they are limited in sizes.

My burgundy crossbody handbag is a Target find, and it is also available in black and a nice dark grey called hearthstone. You can see in the photo below that it has a small outer slip pocket that could be used as a clutch.

I’m wearing my new favorite gold layering necklace. I think the simple, elegant chain and the tiny gold hoop earrings I’m wearing are all the jewelry you need for a neckline like this one. Otherwise, you risk distracting from you face with too much going on. Plus, I like to keep jewelry simple for work wear. The necklace is on sale and it’s also available in silver.

This outfit is absolutely perfect for most work environments because it is professional, uncomplicated, beautiful and comfortable. I really could wear this all day…and then into the evening for dinner out. But I’ll also be wearing this to church or special occasions. Easy, breezy, elegant and oh, so simple.

Blessed for My Day

Yesterday I read an interesting quote by Dr. Henry Cloud, the co-author of the popular book Boundaries. In reference to our wounds we incur at the hands of others, he said, “We are called to protect ourselves without vengeance and to make peace with what happened.” That spoke to me. Today I simply want to remind you that forgiveness does not necessarily mean re-engagement. We absolutely need to forgive our offenders. But we also need to protect ourselves from further harm sometimes. Still, unlike a wounded animal that cowers in a corner with claws and fangs ready, we need to define appropriate boundaries so that we do not have to treat the other person with vengeance or spite. We can certainly keep ourselves safe, but there is no room for revenge in the believer’s heart or attitude.

My prayer for you today is that you would work toward healthy, vibrant relationships that do not perpetuate pain…on either end.

A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls. ~ Proverbs 25:28

Spread the love
xoxo, Kay

  1. I’m a new follower and love your blog. Especially look forward to the message at the end. At 5’3” not a fan of the wide leg crop. I think they make me look shorter. Looks great on you though.

    1. Ah yes, I can see how they may not be for you. Of course that’s part of learning to dress our own bodies rather than just going with every trend that comes along. I’m so glad you enjoy the blog! Thanks for leaving a comment!

  2. Kay, I love those shoes! They look great with so many of your outfits. Today’s BFMD really hit home as I’m struggling with a friendship. Thanks Kay for your wise words!
