Happy Friday! It’s time for another round up of my real life outfits. It’s been a busy week of shooting videos, so there were a few days that I really didn’t stay in my “real life outfit” very long. Ha! And I’m starting to focus on transitional outfits in my content, so my real life outfits are starting to reflect that as well. All that said, let’s cut to the chase and check out what I wore this past week.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.
How This Works
These are my real life outfits from my own closet. Many of these things are available, but some may not be. When I can locate one quickly I’ll share substitutes and/or more economical options. But if I don’t provide one and you’d like for me to, just ask. All available items are linked in the captions of the photos. Even if they don’t look like links (sometimes they don’t highlight for some reason), they generally are. So just click through if you’re interested.
My Real Life Outfit from Last Friday
When I was raising my daughter I used to have her wear a dress at least once a week, usually on a Wednesday, if I recall. It wasn’t a hard fast rule, but I felt like it was a step towards celebrating her femininity and helping her to embrace being a girl. She complied easily because it was a practice I began before she could even argue. By the time she was in high school and choosing her own outfits, she was willingly wearing a dress at least once most every week. And Abigail still loves wearing dresses.

I say all that to say that’s why I chose to wear a dress last Friday. I have some beautiful dresses to choose from this summer. And it seems a shame not to wear them frequently. Plus, it just helps me to keep a little balance in my outfits since I really do enjoy the menswear inspired looks, too. the Jude Connally dress above has been one of my favorites this summer. It’s selling out, but it’s also marked down significantly along with a few other prints. You can always use code KAY15 for 15% off your purchase at Jude Connally.
Saturday Morning Breakfast Out
Saturday morning we shot photos for the blog posts on Monday and Tuesday. Afterwards, while I was still wearing these Eileen Fisher wide leg cargo pants (and here) and tee, we went for a drive in the country and stopped at a cute little cafe for breakfast.

I shared this outfit, along with the coordinating windbreaker (and here), as a travel outfit for fall. But it was very comfortable on that hot morning, too. By the way, those cargo pants also come in black. I wear a medium in them, but a small in the tee.
Saturday Afternoon Real Life Outfit
When we got home, however, I did change into different pants. I had some housework to do, so I didn’t see the need to wear those cargo pants any longer. I wore my Eileen Fisher ponte lantern pants. I’ve actually had these for a few years now (and in white) and I often wear them in the evenings or on Saturdays.

The ponte lantern pants are just so comfortable, but still look classy. They brought them back this year, and they’re available in a full range of sizes. They’re thick enough to wear into early fall for sure. I was pleased to discover that the work great with the white cotton French terry tee for a casual, but polished look.
What I Wore Sunday
I wore the outfit I shared in yesterday’s blog post in real life on Sunday. These trousers are lightweight enough to feel great now and into early fall.

I think I said all I have to say about this outfit yesterday. Ha! So we’ll leave it at that. Oh. And when I returned home from church and lunch, I changed back into what I wore Saturday afternoon. Yeah, that’s real life for you!
In Real Life on Monday
Monday we shot this Wednesday’s YouTube video, so I wasn’t in one thing very long. But the outfit I wore as I prepped for the shoot was this comfortable combination.

I had shown the Everlane tapered pants in Monday’s blog post, but with a black ribbed tee and black blazer. So for the video on Wednesday I wanted to show them with a white tee and denim jacket. These are such soft, cozy pants. I imagine I’ll wear them a good bit as we move into early fall. I have them in a large for a roomy fit.
What I Wore Tuesday
As we were recording videos on Monday, this linen Dublin blazer arrived from Frank & Eileen and I couldn’t wait to wear it. I actually also purchased the black linen Wexford pants to wear with them. But on Tuesday I decided to wear the blazer with my Kinsale linen pants and a graphic tee (no longer available).

I love this duo worn as a casual suit, but of course I can wear that linen blazer with jeans and other pants, too. The Kinsale linen pants are on final sale in lots of colors. If you’re interested – and they are great linen trousers with a little bit of stretch – then I suggest scouring the reviews for sizing feedback as well as using their unique size chart. The 10 fits true to size for me. The reason I say to check the reviews is because sometimes you can find information about how the pants fit on someone with a body type more similar to yours.
Wednesday Day’s Real Life Outfit
Wednesday during the day I pulled out my Maeve Collette wide leg crop pants that I haven’t worn in quite a while. These pants are crafted in such a soft, stretchy cotton blend, so they’re extremely comfortable for a day at the desk or moving around. They do run a little large, so you might need to size down. Mine are a 30, whereas I frequently wear a 31. And I might could even have worn the 29.

I topped the pants with my Rails stripe palms linen shirt, another favorite that I’ve neglected to wear lately. I love the combination of ivory, black and cognac.
Wednesday Evening
Wednesday evening James and I went out to a nice restaurant for dinner. It’s his birthday month, so we were getting a little bonus at this favorite dining place. Thus we made a special evening of it. I wanted to look a little elevated, but not fussy. I knew James wasn’t dressing up really, so I didn’t want to go too fancy.

I felt like this white linen button front shirt and black linen pants combo finished with a black belt and gold leaf slingback pumps struck just the right chord. I added dainty, fine jewelry and carried a simple but elegant black shoulder bag. My top was tucked only in the front and in the back I folded it up so that it softly draped over my waistband. The outfit felt relaxed but elevated.
Thursday in Real Life
We were back to shooting a video on Thursday, so again I didn’t wear this outfit long. But I did wear the cement colored Wexford linen pants and striped linen shirt while I prepped for the video shoot.

I love the coloring in this outfit. Unfortunately my Spartina449 shirt is no longer available.
Thanks so much for stopping in today. I hope you have a great weekend!

Blessed for My Day
We all have questions about life. It’s normal to question why bad things happen to good people, why children should ever suffer, why evil seems to triumph to frequently. And even on a more personal level, we all cry out, “Why me?” at times. Some people even allow these unanswered questions to drive them away from their faith.
But for me the answer has come through worship. When I worship God I acknowledge that He is my creator and I am but the created. Yes, He loves me. In fact, God is love. But He is also – as a true god should be – bigger than me. His ways are not my ways and who can understand the mind of God? When I realize that He is God and I am not, I relinquish my need to know why and TRUST that, in His goodness and greatness, He is still in control and doing something bigger and better than I can conceive.
On the contrary, who are you, you foolish person, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, “Why did you make me like this,” will it? Or does the potter not have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one object for honorable use, and another for common use? ~ Romans 9:20-21
Dresses. We often forget how feminine we look in dresses and even skirts. That blue floral (bright colours) really suits you. I love the brights and they look so good on you as well.
BFMD really resonated with me today, Kay. Why bad things happen to good people. My closest friend has terminal brain cancer at 72. Diagnosed on 7/2 and given one to two months. She is a retired elementary teacher and the most loving and selfless person I have ever had the privilege to know. Her loving family is devastated.
I am so very sorry to hear that Terry. I know that is difficult to experience alongside her and her family. Bless you.
Looking great, Kay! Is the book interesting? Any surprises? Also, you have said all rules are out the window, and one i have noticed is wearing brown shoes/belt with black pants etc. It looks great, but it used to be a no-no! Thank you!
No surprises so far. Oh, yes! I didn’t realize that Corrie was actually a skilled and highly trained watchmaker herself. The book is written somewhat like a text book, but it’s still quite interesting. I’m enjoying it.
Corrie Ten Boom was an absolutely incredible person and I know you will be inspired by the book. Love that Jude Connaly dress – the smoothness of that beautiful fabric comes across in the photos!
What biography are you reading, Kay? I’m always looking for book recommendations!
