How I Really Dressed for My Day This Week

What a week it’s been! Since I just returned from England early in the morning of last Thursday, I’ve felt like I was playing catch up every day. Add to that the holiday weekend and the fact that I’ve been saying goodbye to one beloved assistant this week while onboarding another; I’ve barely had a moment to get my head above water and take a deep breath. But it’s all good. It feels foolish to complain when blessings arrive at our doorstep requiring that we accommodate a few burdensome adjustments in order to receive them. And if nothing else, having so much on my plate has pushed me to rise early and get dressed for my day. Here’s how I really dressed for my day this busy and blessed week in May.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

I like to focus on why I wore what I wore and how I put my looks together in these weekly posts. So I may not call out each item shown. You’ll find links to anything that is available in the captions under the photos. I’ll also share fit information there IF the garment doesn’t fit true to size (TTS). I try to be transparent about gifting; gifted items are indicated with a C/O beside them, meaning they were given to me “courtesy of” that brand. Finally, I’m 5’8″ and about 160 pounds, so I normally wear a misses 10. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape.

What I Wore Last Friday

Last Friday I was still working through some jet lag, so I stuck around the house and caught up on emails and Dressed for My Day tasks. I spent a good bit of the morning opening packages that had arrived while I was away. These SPANXsupersmooth® stretch cotton twill ankle pants had come in and I couldn’t wait to try them. I was not disappointed! In fact, once I had them on I didn’t want to take them off. You may remember the similar 7″ shorts from this week’s YouTube video.

The Frank & Eileen navy and white striped Johnny collar top felt like the effortless match to these structured but casual pants. The outfit is perfect for a casual lunch with friends, shopping or a family gathering. I completed it with favorite cognac accessories and a little jewelry.

How I Dressed for My Day Saturday

Saturday I took a deep dive into…laundry! That’s how it is when you return from vacation, I guess. So I settled in for another day mostly at home with this comfortable Eileen Fisher matching set. I always size down to a small in Eileen Fisher, as I did here.

When I did run a quick errand, I completed the look with a pretty necklace with the subtlest red details and soft aqua earrings. I wore my gold Paul Greens when I went out.

What I Wore to Church Sunday

It was so good to get back to church Sunday. I had missed the previous week because I was in England, but we also didn’t have church the week before that because James had shingles. Ugh. He’s all healed up now, but it was in his eye, so he had a hard time of it, bless him Anyhow returning to church presented me with a nice opportunity to take this new dress from Southern Tide for a spin.

This is a new to me brand and I’m so impressed. The dress feels and looks so much prettier in person. Remember, these photos are just ones I take with my iPhone, so they’re not nearly as accurate as the pictures we get with James’ camera. The dress is constructed in a super soft 52% Linen 48% Viscose fabric with a luxe “washed” texture. It feels and looks like a favorite right out of the package. I think the sleeves are quite flattering and the deep, stitched hem gives the dress interest without looking busy. It fits true to size and worked nicely with cognac sandals and a woven bag.

What I Wore Monday While Recording a Video

Monday it was raining most of the day, so I didn’t feel too left out when we had to work rather than doing anything special for the holiday. If you’ve seen the Anti Frump Guide to Summer Shorts you know I was actually in and out of 8 different shorts outfits all day. But I did land on this one for recording my presentation and wore it afterwards as well.

It’s hard to pick a favorite from those shorts outfits, but this one is definitely a contender. Maybe because it does feel most like my true personal style (remember tip #3!) and provides a little more coverage while still fitting nicely (and tip #1).

What I Wore for a Busy Tuesday

I knew Tuesday was going to be a long and productive day, so I dressed in an outfit that felt polished but super comfortable. That morning I had our usual team video conference meeting, but this time with my departing assistant Lucy, my daughter Abigail (who works for me 5 hours a week), my husband James and my new assistant Sophie. I wanted Sophie to meet James since she’ll be working with him but rarely seeing him. And I needed to give Lucy and Abby assignments before Sophie and I buckled down for a long training session.

After a few hours with Sophie I took a break for lunch and then buckled in at my desk to edit this week’s video. It’s a glamorous life, ya’ll! 😂🤣 Really, most of my days are spent in my office. But I’ve learned that getting dressed and putting on a little makeup really impacts my productivity and my disposition. The linen shirt and linen drawstring pants felt comfortable but classy and sharp, too.

What I Wore Out and About Wednesday

Wednesday I had several appointments at different places around town. It was warmish, but we also had rain in the forecast all day. So I set out in my navy wide leg cropped linen pants with a white ribbed tank and this darling lightweight cotton jacket. I always size down to a small in Eileen Fisher and I sized up to a large in the jacket. I probably would have worn sandals with this outfit, but since I knew it could rain (and boy did it!), I opted for my new M.Gemi driving moccasin mules. They proved to be the perfect choice for the weather and I think they look nice with the outfit.

This is one of those photos that just doesn’t do the outfit justice in my opinion. The jacket actually works with the navy pants beautifully. I like that it is lightweight and textured, so it’s a little something different than just a denim jacket. And those mule loafers felt dreamy all day. The rubber gommini soles made me feel a little more sure-footed in the rain and on the slick parking lots, too. I felt like this combination achieved that hard to hit balance for a warm and muggy day combined with rain showers.

What I Wore to a Luncheon on Thursday

Thursday was another busy day, but it was all good. I hit the road early with a meeting and luncheon. I’ve taken a leadership role in the Northeast Women’s Bible Studies ministry here in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. During the school year they host Bible studies around the area, but in the summer they have three “outpost” events with speakers. I spoke at one of them several years ago. But this year I’ll be the emcee at an outpost gathering. If you live in the area and you’re interested in attending, just let me know. The website has some issues right now, so they don’t have the information about the outposts on there. But I can fill you in with all the details.

Anyhow, we had a meeting/prayer meeting/luncheon in the home of one of the women. Since it was a sunny, warm day, I was inspired to put on my grove green linen pants with this sweet novelty tee and black sandals. I pulled the look together with a black belt and these bracelets. I think my linen jacket completes so many outfits beautifully. It’s from several years ago, but Talbots has this one to offer this year.

That’s a wrap! Let me know if you have any questions. Everything does fit true to size unless I noted otherwise. But I’m happy to fill you in on any details you might need. Have a great weekend!

Blessed for My Day

In the luncheon I attended yesterday, the leader of the group shared a brief devotional. She began by citing a study that indicates the average person has approximately 6,000 thoughts in a day and that roughly 80% of those are negative. To cap it off, it’s also estimated that about 95% of our thoughts are repetitive. That means many of us, left unchecked, are mulling over negative thoughts – including fears, worries and anxieties – most of the day. As my friend mentioned, not all negative thoughts are harmful; indeed some can be constructive. But it does make me think that I might need to be more mindful about the negative ideas, opinions, fears and self-talk that surface so that I can sift through them for the truth.

When we’re having negative thoughts of any kind we need to take them to the Word of God and hold them up to that holy standard. If we discover that our thoughts are based on faulty ideas, fear, incomplete information or sinful desires, we must be willing to correct them with the truth. Need help with that? Sure we do; it’s a mind boggling task! But there’s a “hotline” we can call when we’re struggling to separate the godly from the self-destructive, the truth from fiction. Just call JEREMIAH 333. See below. 😉

‘Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’ ~ Jeremiah 33:3

xoxo, Kay

  1. Love these post…. What you wear weekly. Cute outfits. I also loved the BFMD. So true. I know I need to take my thought captive often. PS I don’t know how you get all you get done working full time. If I lived close I’d love to hear you speak.
