How I Really Dressed for My Day This Week

Oh, you are going to be so proud of me! I wore so much color this week. LOL! Granted, I tempered those colorful tops with neutral bottoms, but a fair share of them were bright and white. The daffodils poked their pretty little heads out of the ground early, so I decided it was time to deck myself out in the colors of spring before the day actually arrived on the calendar, too. Let’s check out how I really dressed for my day this week right before spring.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

I like to focus on why I wore what I wore and how I put my looks together in these weekly posts. So I may not call out each item shown. You’ll find links to anything that is available in the captions under the photos. I’ll also share fit information there IF the garment doesn’t fit true to size (TTS). I try to be transparent about gifting; gifted items are indicated with a C/O beside them, meaning they were given to me “courtesy of” that brand. Finally, I’m 5’8″ and about 160 pounds, so I normally wear a misses 10. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape.

What I Wore Last Saturday to Record a Video

Friday I worked all day prepping for the videos I needed to shoot. That meant I was in and out of dozens of outfits and never landed on one. But Saturday we recorded this week’s YouTube video and I ended up in these super comfortable black pants, graphic t-shirt and denim jacket for most of the day.

I sized up to a large in the Spanx pants, as I usually do with Spanx. But they’re fairly roomy, so you might fare well with your usual size. They’re available in regular (what I’m wearing), petite and tall sizes. The jacket is so comfortable and on trend, and is currently 25% off in the Madewell Insider Event. It comes in sizes XX-small to 3X. The is a sweet price and comes in a wide range of sizes, too.

How I Dressed for Church on Sunday

Sunday was fairly warm, but it started off cool and the wind was fierce. So I wore my trench jacket over my sweater and jeans outfit. So much of what I’m showing in this post is on sale! My trench is marked down for the first time all season, I do believe.

trench coat TTS // sweater TTS // neck scarf // jeans sized up to 31 // boots c/o (use code KAYBOOTS for $50 off your first pair of boots or booties at Ally) // shoulder bag c/o // earrings // bracelet

My sweater and scarf are part of J.McLaughlin’s buy more save more event. I love the color combination of this outfit with the white jeans and light blue sweater.

What I Wore Monday to a Meeting and Lunch

Sunday night a cold front blew in and it was quite chilly as I headed out Monday morning to a meeting. I decided to pull my black and white mac out and create an outfit around it. I knew it would work nicely with my black Veronica Beard pants, so I just needed a pretty color to wear up top.

I went through several options that morning, but ended up in this coral Henley cashmere sweater, which is also part of J.McLaughlin’s buy more save more event. Of course my coat is no longer available. It is a Talbots purchase from several years ago, and I’m so glad I’ve hung onto it. It helps me to create such stylish looking outfits so easily.

What I Wore to Shoot Videos on Tuesday

Tuesday it was time to shoot more videos. Last night (Thursday) we got our kids’ dog, Cooper, and we’re keeping him for a couple of weeks while they are visiting Japan. Since he requires a bit of attention, I wanted to get next week’s video recorded before he showed up. We’ll have to record again later in his visit, but hopefully he’ll be more adjusted by then. He’s a very well-trained dog, but he just misses his owners terribly.

Anyhow, I recorded the video in this soft yellow tweed belted jacket and the same white jeans I’d worn Sunday. I have plenty of other white jeans I could have worn, but these just work really nicely with this slightly dressy jacket. This would be such a great work outfit, and I’m really excited about wearing it more during the spring.

How I Dressed for a Dental Appointment on a Frigid Wednesday

Wednesday I had a dental appointment in the morning, followed by a few video conference calls in the afternoon. So I wanted to wear something comfortable, but also colorful up top. I wanted a top with a little structure at the collar, but also one that was easy. For half a minute I considered a silk blouse, but when I felt water squirt across me at the dentist I was very glad I had opted for something more casual and washable.

trench coat TTS but roomy // top TTS // scarf // jeans c/o sized up to 31 // boots // tote

Unfortunately I was in a hurry when I got this photo on the way out the door. I meant to get a photograph of the outfit without the coat upon my return, but never remembered to take it. I wore my very comfortable and on trend Ayr jeans with another top from J.McLaughlin. The jeans have become my go-to favorites. I size up to a 31 in those.

What I Wore Out and About on a Pretty Thursday

Since I didn’t get to wear green on St. Patrick’s Day, I decided to wear my green tweed lady jacket on Thursday when I got out and about to run some errands. I wore it with another pair of white jeans. These are the Paige Sasha jeans in the 32″ inseam. They’re 25% off right now in the Friends & Family event at Paige. They have a very comfortable (to me) high rise at 11 3/4”. I do size up to a 31 for a very comfortable fit. Nordstrom is price matching the Paige discount on the Sasha jeans, but they don’t have this crisp white.

lady jacket // shirt is old and not available // white jeans // belt c/o // boots c/o (use code KAYBOOTS for $50 off your first pair of Ally boots or booties) // earrings c/o // beaded necklace c/o // pendant necklace c/o // bracelet c/o

Since it started warming up again yesterday, this outfit turned out to be the perfect combination for running errands. Since these jeans do have a 32″ inseam I need to wear a heel with them. So they work nicely with these booties or later I’ll wear them with a heeled sandal.

So that’s how I really dressed for my day this week. It was fun to wear white jeans several times. And I enjoyed add pretty spring colors to my looks. Happy Spring, by the way! Here’s to lots of pretty spring days and equally lovely outfits. Thanks so much for dropping in.

Blessed for My Day

Earlier this week in a “blessed for my day” I mentioned that self-awareness is a good indicator of spiritual maturity and growth. But another way to know that you are becoming more and more like Christ is to examine your character and see if it reflects His. The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit takes up residence in the heart of the believer and begins to produce the fruit of godly character as we abide in Him and He and abides in us.

I’ve discovered that the godly characteristics listed in Galatians 5:22-23 hinge off of one another. We can’t just pick and choose from these; they all grow simultaneously in our lives or they don’t grow at all. If we are learning to love the way Christ does, we also have the joy of the Lord. And as our joy increases, fear and anxiety are replaced gradually by God’s abiding peace. As we experience more peace amidst the storms and chaos of life, we’re able to exercise more patience with other people. And that results in us treating people with more kindness and goodness. Get the picture? Maybe it’s a good day to examine ourselves and see if indeed the fruit of God’s Spirit is evident in our lives.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. ~ Galatians 5:22-23

  1. I love the yellow jacket and white pants outfit on you, Kay. It’s such a youthful look. I don’t feel the same about spring being a promise of hope and promise. Not a fan of warm weather. I was born and raised in Wash DC where it was very hot and humid and pre-A/C. I feel hope and promise when Fall arrives and know that the temps will be getting colder. Ha! I now live in Wisconsin, a good thing!

    1. That’s just the name of the style, characterized by a slightly cropped length, large decorative buttons on the front and a somewhat slim fit and usually no collar or maybe a Peter Pan collar.

  2. Look at you in all those pretty colors!!! I especially like the pinks and the yellow on you. 🙂 I’m also finding I am reaching for a lot of color, especially the lighter hues in my closet. Happy Spring!

  3. I love the things to do in spring list. One of our priorities is a drive to Yosemite to see the
Falls. That will happen Tuesday and a welcome spring potluck thirty. I love this season too.

  4. Hi Kay….. I’m trying to find where you posted the under garments you wear under a dress that is more jersey fabric and closer fit. I haven’t worn a slip fur years…. Don’t they rude up and I’ve never worn the shaping shorts. At a lose of what to get and size wise. Whatever you could recommend I’d appreciate it. I’m 5’3” about 128lbs and wear size small dresses and 27/4 or 28/6 in pants or jeans.

  5. Wow!!!!! You look great and do such a good job of dressing for your day. Lately I try talking myself out of outfits I first decide on as I live in very casual area and sometimes not doing anything too exciting….. trip to the store, visit my mom in memory care, etc. But when I dress better I feel better and others notice too. I do have to say I wear denim most every day.

  6. Happy Spring to you as well! I don’t think I can stand to look at all the dark colors in my closet one more day! Yes to the BFMD – I read once that our goal should be to look in the mirror and see Jesus if we have modeled ourselves after him!

  7. Kay,
You look so beautiful in all of the spring colors! Love the green jacket on you. You have inspired me to go find some white jeans for spring….I used to wait to wear white after Memorial Day.

    Bring on the warmer weather!
