It’s going to be another scorcher here in Cincinnati today. And you’ll see from my outfit choices for the week that we’ve had some very warm days. Personally I’m excited to usher in fall, and the sooner the better. What about you? Let me know in the comments today if you are dreaming of cool fall days or you’re savoring summer. But first let’s see how I really Dressed for My Day this week.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.
I like to focus on why I wore what I wore and how I put my looks together in these weekly posts. So I may not call out each item shown. You’ll find links to anything that is available in the captions under the photos. I’ll also share fit information there IF the garment doesn’t fit true to size (TTS). I try to be transparent about gifting; gifted items are indicated with a C/O beside them, meaning they were given to me “courtesy of” that brand. Finally, I’m 5’8″ and about 160 pounds, so I normally wear a misses 10. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape.
What I Wore for Appointments Friday
Friday I popped into Nordstrom for some alterations on my Anniversary Sale purchases, grabbed a quick lunch and headed to my eye doctor appointment. It was a warm day, but I wanted to use this opportunity to wear my Veronica Beard plaid blazer again. I have loved having this warm weather jacket in my closet this summer and, as much as I’m ready for fall, it will be a little sad to have to pack this one up.

This outfit is a great example of high-low dressing. My blazer may be an investment piece, but my jeans (well under $100) and mules (purchased in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale at 30% off) are sweet finds. I didn’t do a whole lot of walking at the mall, but I did journey from one end to the other for lunch. And my mules served me just fine. I find myself reaching for these versatile shoes quite often.
What I Wore Out to Eat Saturday
Saturday morning James and I decided it would be nice to go out for an early dinner. We had a gift card for Texas Roadhouse so, while it’s not really favorite, we decided to go out for steaks at four in the afternoon.

I thought my red Brochu Walker dress, accessorized with a belt and beaded necklace, was a cool choice with just the slightest western vibe. I accessorized with other seasonal cognac accessories.
How I Dressed for Church on Sunday
Sunday morning I opted for my new linen blend purchases from Evereve. I love the way this button down top and skirt feel and wear. And they’re going to be great separates to wear with other things, too. I tucked the button down top in and then pulled it out a little for a drapey fit. I added a comfortable elasticized belt (mine is brown and no longer available) for a fitted look.

Speaking of Evereve, they’re offering 15% off denim TODAY ONLY. That includes skirts and shorts, too. But it’s a great opportunity to purchase some jeans for fall. My favorites are Frame, Paige and AG, and I like Kut from the Kloth for a lower price point. That said, the other brands I’ve selected below are good, too. You’ll get free shipping on purchases over $50, too. I’ve created a shopping widget below with my favorites.
What I Wore for an Appointment on Monday
Monday I mostly worked from home, but I did get out for a much needed mani-pedi in the afternoon. Since it was so steamy outside and I’d be sitting in the pedicure chair, I wore my T by Talbots dress. I got multiple compliments on this simple, comfortable dress.

Ooh! It looks like today this dress and all regular price T by Talbots selections are 30% off. That includes new arrivals. I completed the dress with cognac sandals and jewelry. I put the black sweater over my shoulders because I knew it could be a little cool in the salon. Some have questioned whether a sweater over the shoulders really adds any warmth. Hahaha! Probably not a lot, but I find that it does keep the chill off, which is generally all I need. Otherwise that crazy menopause thermostat seems to kick into overdrive. LOL.
Taping a Video on Tuesday
Tuesday I had to record and edit this Wednesday’s YouTube video. I seem to be doing that a lot lately, and it’s definitely not the best setup.

One of my wardrobe priorities is always pretty tops and jackets since I like to wear them on my videos. I was able to get this one for a fraction of the price in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, but it’s back at regular price now. I like that the length and the curved hem create a pleasing effect even if you leave it untucked. But on this day I tucked it into my favorite drawstring linen pants, which are finally marked down by the way.
Recording Next Week’s Video on Wednesday
On Wednesday I was back in front of the camera to record next week’s video, so I’ve finally broken the cycle of last minute shoots. Yay! Next week you’ll see me in this pretty silk blouse that I got in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. It sold out quick in the sale, but has been restocked in a couple of sizes back at regular price. I’m wearing a medium comfortably, by the way. And you’ll find over a dozen other options in this same blouse but other prints and colors here.

But let’s talk about these jeans. I’d tried the deep cuff hem last year, but didn’t really like the ones I got and never wore them much. Since the trend is still going and I try to keep my wardrobe current and fresh so I have options to share with you, I decided to order a couple more and try again. I ordered these Mother jeans (sort of a barrel jean really) and the ones I’m wearing from AG. I sent the Mother’s back because the size I ordered didn’t really fit great. Plus, I really like these from AG, and I don’t need more than one pair in this trend. I may be delusional, but think they look better in person than they do in this photo. And I’m really looking forward to incorporating these into my fall and winter outfits. Later I’ll wear them with heeled booties. Oh, and I sized up to a 31 for a very nice fit.
What I Wore for a Hot Friday
Friday I had a few video meetings and then I went to the dentist. Yeah, James and I think we’re turning into that old couple that goes to either a dentist or a doctor almost weekly. Ha! Actually, we’re pretty healthy, but we both just seem to have had “issues” lately. Hopefully this little run is coming to an end soon.

Again, I’m ready for fall, but I’ll be sad to put this colorful duo away. So I’m wearing it almost weekly lately. And it’s WAY marked down now. I mean, like crazy low. And still well stocked, but I wouldn’t hesitate. I get compliments every single time I wear these linen separates. And they make me happy, too!
Thanks so much for dropping in for a little style inspiration. I hope you have a lovely weekend!

Blessed for My Day
As I’ve written this post I’ve heard the sound of my husband power-washing our back patio. Sounds a little like the sounds from the dentist chair yesterday. Ha! It’s not a pleasant noise, but I’ve always kind of liked the sound of “work.” What about you? Growing up I was comforted by the sounds of my mom sewing or my dad building something in our basement. Now I like hearing the sound of my husband mowing the grass or recording a podcast. There’s just something about the gentle, monotonous hum of productivity that makes me feel safe and supported.
When I am anxious for God to accomplish something that I’ve prayed for, I sometimes wish I could hear Him at work. I long for that comforting noise of something getting done, moving along. We’re just very conditioned to progress making noise. But just because I don’t hear God at work doesn’t mean He isn’t moving heaven and earth on my behalf. The Lord tends to work quietly. And not only cannot hear the evidence of His progress; I can’t always see it either. Until I can. God is always at work, dear friend. Let’s trust that even in the silence He is accomplishing His divine purposes for our lives.
For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. ~ Philippians 1:6

Hello, Kay! enjoyed this week’s video and always appreciate the helpful information you share. Also, your hair looks so pretty!
Summer here in South Wales is a mixture of warm sunny days, and cold rainy days.
So my wardrobe consists of items I can layer to suit most climate changes.
I do love Autumn. Days when it’s dry , sunny, and you can wear lightweight jackets or warm wool cardigans with jeans and pretty print blouses or graphic print t shirts.
I really enjoy your videos and blog posts.Family and friends comment on how modern I look great to know as I don’t follow trends , I just put my outfits together with more thought after watching and listening to your advice.
Regards Gloria
You looked so nice this week in your outfit choices, except for the last 2. I can’t get into the big cuff jeans. They do not look polished and classic to me at all. Just something I would never wear. We can’t like same things, that is what fashion is all about. Enjoyed the BFMD.
I always look forward to your devotional thoughts…today was a great reminder for me because I neither see nor hear any movement in my concerns and situations.
By the way, that Veronica Beard summer blazer looks great on you! God bless!
Love these post Kay. You dress so nice each day. I have mixed feeling about wanting Summer to continue or get moving into Fall. I lean toward Fall more as it’s my favorite time of year. I like to wear jeans and sweaters and booties the most and love all the smells and sights of Fall. I love your comments on BFMD. So insightful. Oh and my husband and I have felt the same lately. We feel we keep having apts. more lately and comment how old the average age person looks when we go. We feel older. lol We also are healthy, but by the time you get in your yearly physical, dental, dermatology, eye, mammo etc etc then you are making and going to apts. often these days in our 60’s. I plan to look through Evereve denim. I want some new. I tried the wide cuff denim when it first came out but I felt bigger in them and so I returned.
I just wanted to tell you that your new hair style is beautiful! Have a blessed day!
Thanks so much. 😊
Love all your outfits! I enjoy seeing what and how you put various items together- it gives me lots of ideas for my closet. Thank you for all of your hard work! Fall is my favorite season and I am ready for it! I enjoy cooler temperatures and low humidity. Always enjoy the BFMD.
I’m with you Kay, can’t wait for the cooler, clearer days of Fall. I also prefer cool weather clothing to hot weather styles! Give me sweaters and jeans over shorts and tanks!
I’m solidly team summer – love the freedom of wearing shorts and sandals all the time, the fresh fruits and vegetables, the flowers, the long days – all of it! Although if I didn’t have AC to cool off in after being outside I might not be loving it quite so much, but I had years without AC and still preferred summer then. My friends joke that they retired so they’d have more time to go to the doctors, although we don’t enjoy having to do so. Your looks this week were lovely, as always. I was in Talbots today and saw the jeans with the deep cuff but wasn’t tempted – I am slow to try new things, so by the time I get around to trying a look like that, the trend train has moved on!
Can you please tell me the size of your blue EF sleeveless blouse. That is a very cute outfit!
Thanks.
I always size down in Eileen Fisher to a small. Thanks. 😊
I enjoyed your “what to wear for a reunion” boards so much. I don’t have a reunion to go to, but I have some events where those choices would be perfect. It was such a great feature. It would be fun to see more of your responses to readers’ “what to wear” occasions. I’m pinning them for sure!
That VB yellow and blue plaid blazer looks amazing on you. I can see you getting a lot of mileage from it!
Thanks. It’s been a real favorite this summer. And I really think it will have staying power in my closet for years.
