Happy Friday! It’s time for me to share my real life outfits for the past week. These weekly posts keep me accountable to my own goal of getting “dressed for my day,” but they also give you a peek into how I really put myself together for my casual lifestyle. Let’s see how I really dressed for my day this week.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

What I Wore to Shop on Saturday

Saturday I drove up the highway to Dayton in order to pick up a dress I’d ordered online from Talbots. I did a little “YouTube video research” while I was out in preparation for this week’s and next week’s video. I let my hair have a rest from styling products and tools, so it’s not my best look. But I felt comfortable and pulled together in this summer red, white and blue outfit.

I’ve enjoyed my black and my yellow linen pants from J.Crew so much that I ordered these strawberry sunrise ones, too. I was surprised to discover that they are not nearly as pink as they appear on the website. They’re almost a true red with just a touch of pink…I guess very similar to the color of strawberries, now that I think about it. Ha! This tank works really well with the drawstring linen pants because it is slightly cropped and ends just well over the waistband. I like that I don’t have to tuck it in. I completed the look with my gold hued Beek Gallito sandals. Oh! By the way, you can now use code KAY10 at Beek to get 10% off your purchase. Yay!!! They’ve just recently gotten in some early fall shoes that promise to be sporty, stylish and comfortable. I have these coming my way. I usually wear a 9.5, but I wear a 9 in these since they don’t have half sizes.

What I Wore to Church Sunday

Sunday we joined our church family for breakfast and worship. I worked with the kids actually during the Bible study time.

We planned to take photos after church, so I wore this black cotton top with my new ecru Kimberly jeans, both from Avara. This outfit felt really comfortable for the day, but also pulled together and polished.

Linen Outfit for Monday

Monday I was at home working. I wore my black Eileen Fisher organic linen lantern pants with a gingham check sleeveless puckered linen top. It’s not available anymore, but here’s a similar linen top.

I initially had on black sandals, but they just made the outfit look very boring. So I changed into my vintage vachetta sandals instead. I like this effect so much more. Remember, cognac or caramel leather accessories do really great with black and white outfits to add richness and depth.

Tuesday Quick Shopping Trip Outfit

Tuesday we shot a video, but I got out early that morning to pick up another dress at Talbots for next week’s video. The temperatures were starting to soar, so I reached for linen.

I topped my chartreuse linen pants with my navy and white sweater tank for a slenderizing look. I completed the outfit with my gold sandals and minimal jewelry. Those linen pants are now marked down to a nice price, as are the sandals. The sandals run true to size, but size down in the linen pants.

Tuesday Afternoon Outfit

After we finished shooting this week’s YouTube video I just stayed in this outfit from Talbots. I LOVE this outfit. It’s comfortable but polished, cool but transitional.

The mules fit true to size and are still available in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in this raffia and suede, as well as six other colors and fabrics. Surprisingly they are very walkable and comfortable.

What I Wore Wednesday

After shooting next week’s video on Wednesday, I once again kept on this black & ivory floral shell, but this time I was wearing it with my new black Frame jeans (from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale). I LOVE these jeans, but it took me quite a while to get the right size. They sold out quickly in the sale, but have been coming back in in different sizes regularly. I started out with a 31, which I often size up to in jeans.

But those were too big, so I returned them and ordered the 30, which I’m wearing above. However, I got the 29 in today and it fits much better. I hadn’t taken the tags off of the 30, so I’m returning those now. Lesson? Size down in these black high waist straight ankle jeans. For the video I wore the outfit with my ivory linen blazer and black sandals.

What I Wore to Dinner Wednesday Evening

Wednesday evening we shot photos for yesterday’s blog post and then went out to dinner. I ended up the evening in my L’Agence jeans and tweed jacket. Like I said in that post, this outfit made the occasion feel a little more uncommon.

Linen Dress for Work and Nail Appointment

Yesterday I was busy wrapping up the work week so we could head to Michigan for a little vacation today. I dressed for my day early in this pretty denim blue linen dress from J.McLaughlin. The heat was definitely on this day, reaching into the 90s. So I felt as comfortable as I could get dashing in and out of my nail salon, the store and the FedEx office.

I completed the bright blue linen dress with cognac sandals and a straw bag with cognac trim. This dress felt comfortable and classy all day. It fits true to size; I’m wearing a medium.

Thanks so much for dropping in today. I’m off on a little vacation now, but I’ll be checking in on things while I’m out. I have lots of great content lined up for you next week, so make sure you’re subscribed to my newsletter for all the updates.

Blessed for My Day

I think most of us would rather that our actions and words and lives be approved of by other people. Most of us cringe a little when we discover that someone doesn’t agree with our choices or behavior, especially if that someone is one that we esteem. But none of us can consistently please everyone. If you’re pleasing one person or one group, you’re probably displeasing others. No matter how hard you try, you simply cannot win the people pleasing game.

That’s why it’s so important to make pleasing God our one and only goal. Sure, when we walk in a manner worthy of the Lord we will probably also win the approval of some people. But we must resist letting other people’s approval dictate our actions and choices. Instead, let’s make it our goal today to walk and behave and make choices that honor God. That is indeed a high goal. And we will encounter disapproval from others along the way. But this singular goal will keep us on course in the long run.

For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ. ~ Galatians 1:10

xoxo, Kay

  2. That black and white Talbots sleeveless blouse looks amazing on you. You really show us how easily we can look put together every day. It inspires me, for sure. And you’re so right, we may not be able to please all people all the time, but we can focus on pleasing God. Enjoy your trip!

  3. You take a lot of little trips to Georgia to see daughter and family and now you and James are going on a little vacation. Good for you. So happy for you that you are able to do these things and see sites and relax. You are blessed that you are able to do these things. Have fun! Some people have been stuck at home most of the Summer, like me, but I am hoping to go to Denver, Co this September for my oldest grandson’s wedding,

  4. Enjoy your content so much! I was subscribed and received a daily email for your blog, but after some email issues I was no longer receiving them so resubscribed…still nothing. Thoughts? Thanks for your help!

    1. Hi Cindy. Make sure they’re not in your spam folder. According to my records you are a “cleaned” subscriber, which means that at some point the system cleaned you from my list. That can happen for several reasons. It could be that my emails were all going to your spam folder so they stopped sending. Or it could be that your email box is full or that you have some kind of filter that prohibits my emails. So I sugggest subscribing again and then making sure the emails don’t go to your spam folder. If they do, get them out and mark them not spam.

  5. I’ve been enjoying wearing my linen pants this summer. I’m glad they are trending so I could add more to my collection. The blue linen dress is so cute. I enjoyed your Wednesday video. I like the beauty items in it too.

  6. Thank you for your devotion today. I struggle with people pleasing. And it gets me in trouble. I am feeling so aware of that this morning so the devotion was a perfect reminder to please God above all.
