How I Really Dressed for My Day This Week

Happy Friday! Wow, it’s been a week. I don’t know if the change to Daylight Savings Time through me for a loop, I’ve had a little virus or I’ve suffered from the combination of the two, but I have struggled for the past few days. Anybody? Alas, I did manage to get dressed for my day five out of the past seven days. So today I’m sharing how I really dressed for my day this week.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

I like to focus on why I wore what I wore and how I put my looks together in these weekly posts. So I may not call out each item shown. You’ll find links to anything that is available in the captions under the photos. I’ll also share fit information there IF the garment doesn’t fit true to size (TTS). I try to be transparent about gifting; gifted items are indicated with a C/O beside them, meaning they were given to me “courtesy of” that brand. Finally, I’m 5’8″ and about 160 pounds, so I normally wear a misses 10. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape.

What I Wore Friday

You may have heard me refer to this first outfit in Wednesday’s YouTube video. When I wore these wide leg jeans, my pretty Liberty of London print button-up shirt, booties and a trench coat to the mall last Friday I received over a dozen compliments on my outfit. I kid you not.

I took note. One of the things I heard repeatedly was, “You look so put together.” It turns out that little steps like tucking your top, adding a belt, coordinating your accessories and wearing a polished trench coat instead of a fleece zip-up hoodie really do go noticed by people. And yet this outfit felt just as comfortable as anything else I could have worn that day. I loved this outfit and maybe it showed on my face, too. Whatever the reason, people seemed genuinely pleased to see me coming.

How I Dressed Sunday

Because so many people in our small congregation were ill Sunday, we didn’t get to have church. Of course that has thrown me off all week, too! I still got dressed for my day since I needed to do a little work around the house and wanted to get out to run a quick errand.

button up sweater // raw hem jean (sized down to a 29) // sneakers // necklace // earrings

I felt sporty and comfortable in my jeans and lightweight merino wool button-up top. Trust me, this is truly one of those merino wool tops you can wear year round because the fabric is temperature controlling. It’s lightweight and so soft. I did size up to a large for a generous fit. I also enjoyed wearing my trending silver sneakers when I went out for a bit.

What I Wore Monday

Monday the weather was so nice. After my walk I changed into simple ankle jeans and a fun graphic tee. I added this snap-front little jacket since we still had a chill in the house. I don’t think I ever actually went anywhere that day, but I was dressed to go!

I went with my true to size medium in both the t-shirt and the jacket.

What I Wore to a Coffee Meet-Up

Tuesday I had confirmed that I would meet up at a nearby coffee shop with other ladies who work remotely. I did this through meetup.com, a website/app where you can find other people who want to do what you want to do (meet for coffee, tour a museum, go for a walk, etc.) and who, like you perhaps, don’t want to do it alone. I imagine you have more options in a large city like Cincinnati, but I don’t really know.

cotton silk button up shirt // trench // barrel pants // loafer // purse

I truly enjoyed having coffee with the five women I met. Their work-from-home careers range from freelance finance writer to an arborist, from concierge travel to bio-statistician. We worked for a while and chatted occasionally. Quite pleasant, especially for women who are usually working from home. I used this opportunity to dress up a little and wore my barrel pants, which are 40% off now, with a favorite button-up shirt and loafers. By the way, the photo of my navy trench on the Nordstrom website is wrong. This is a double-breasted coat and longer than the one shown, but I thought it would make a smart addition to my collection.

What I Wore for an Appointment Thursday

Wednesday I was ill and did not get dressed for my day. But I had to rally yesterday to make an appointment I couldn’t get out of. We have had unseasonably warm weather this week so I was able to wear this springy top with ankle length jeans and sandals.

blouse // jeans (sized down to a 29) // belt // sandals // purse

Today I am feeling much better, but I’m still taking it easy. There has been a lot of sickness in my family (including the folks we went to Arizona with!), but my symptoms have not been nearly as bad as theirs. Still, I just want to feel 100% again. So I think I’ll get a shower, get dressed for my day in something easy and chill.

Thanks so much for dropping in. Let me know if you have any questions about anything I showed. Remember, assume it runs true to size unless I say otherwise. Have a great day!

Blessed for My Day

Like me, you may ask for the Lord to bless you many times in a day. During our morning prayers, at meals, as we drive down the busy highway, when we sit in the doctor’s office…we’re prone to pray for God to bless us. Aren’t we glad we have a God who truly loves to bless His children. He even asks us to ask Him for His blessings.

But we can also speak blessing over other people. We can ask God to bless the people we know and love, not just in prayer, but in their presence. What a gift that is! Today let’s take the blessing challenge. Let’s speak a blessing over someone such as a spouse, child, neighbor, friend or co-worker. Let’s tell them something good about God and how He is working in their lives. And let’s assure them that God will bless them, too.

The Lord bless you, and keep you;

The Lord cause His face to shine on you,
And be gracious to you;

The Lord lift up His face to you,
And give you peace.’ ~ Number 6:24-26

xoxo, Kay

  1. I love how you style your clothes Kay! Modern and stylish 😁
What I would love to see, once you’ve shown us a post like this, is to shop the same look at the discount stores. I know you’ve done it before and it would help me bunches!

  2. I truly love the red and white combo on Sunday. It gave me inspiration for tomorrow’s outfit. Thanks.

  3. I’m so glad you are feeling better. I’m enjoying seeing all your springy looks. I’m getting great ideas for sprucing my own wardrobe.

  4. I love both of the button up blouses, they are so pretty and make you feel happy. I don’t usually buy or wear florals but I might order one after seeing how you styled them. Thank you for keeping us on the style track, not always easy as we age.
    Blessings to you

  5. It’s good to hear that you are feeling better. I’m not surprised you received so many lovely compliments on Friday, as your outfit is so stylish. The pink floral top is really pretty and spring-like and you look radiant. Thank you for posting what you wear each week, it is very much appreciated as it’s great to see what you enjoy wearing.

  6. Your weekly outfits are my favorite posts! I really like the white pants and red sweater! Your blog posts, videos, and Instagram posts are such an inspiration!

  7. Glad your feeling better and sometimes after flying you will come dow with something as I often did. But that being said you still looked great!

  8. I’m glad you’re feeling better. Thank God so far I haven’t been sick. I increased my vitamin D when everyone around me was getting sick. I write the Levital blessing on my kids and grandkids birthday cards. The Legacy Coalition, a Christian group for grandparents encourages the use of this blessing. I love the first outfit too. I’m going to order the pink tie front T-shirt you showed the other day. Hope you get to feeling 100 percent. 🙏

  9. Get well, Kay!
I enjoy these “How I really dressed” blogs. It lets me see several current outfits & gives me ideas for styling my own clothing.
I have a life-long hatred of belts. But you’ve inspired me to include them in my outfits (at least occasionally). Yesterday I wore a tucked-in floral button-up (unusual for me), ankle jeans, Ally flats (purchased with your discount code, thanks!) in courageous caramel, and a newly acquired belt that matches the shoes. MANY people complimented me on the look, including my 24-year-old, fashionista daughter. 100% of the outfit inspiration came from you. Thank you.

  10. Hello Kay, I’m glad you’re feeling better. I have also been dealing with sickness here in Virginia. Love the spring blouses. Always enjoy your posts.

  11. Hope you’re feeling better! As to the length of the navy coat, I’m surprised you wore a longer coat with pants. And I’ve seen you wear coats shorter than hemline of a dress. No longer a fashion rule to wear longer coats to cover dress hemline and shorter coat for pants? Thanks for pushing through this week!

  12. Glad you’re feeling better, Kay! Love to see your outfits for the week, it gives me lots of ideas of how to style my own clothes.

  13. It can be a chore just to get dressed at all when you are feeling under the weather, so well done for making the effort. As usual you look very put together so you look vibrant as always. I really like the navy trench and will look to pair my navy/beige or camel items from your inspiration. Hope the weekend will see you back to your normal self.

  14. I do hope you get to feeling better soon, so you can enjoy the spring weather. Thank you for all that you do for us.

  15. That first outfit, the pink F&E blouse, trouser jeans and trench, is absolute perfection!!!!!!!! Sorry you haven’t felt well. The time change has mucked with my body, too. I did take extra vitamins to ward off getting sick. Mentally I’m also dazed. Haven’t known which way is up all week!

  16. The Friday “How I Really Dressed for My Day” is always my favorite! You inspire me to put in some effort – even when I’m not leaving home.

  17. So sorry you have been feeling under the weather.😢 I have heard of many sick with one thing or another. Hopefully things will turn around starting today. Love all these outfits very well put together . Outfit inspired for sure! Take care

  18. Love the elevated look of the trench coat. Perfect for these windy spring days. Also, isn’t it funny how adding the brown accessories can really change the look of an outfit. I really like it with your pretty floral top shown today.
Sorry you’ve felt ill. Be better soon, and God bless

  19. Sorry to hear you’ve been sick, but you looked great in your outfits this week. Thank you for your inspiration. I try to look modern and current as much as possible. Blessings and get well soon.

  20. Kay I’m sorry you were sick and hope that was the end of it! That first outfit (that you got so many compliments on) is just “on point.” Love the floral top and the combo with the jeans and trench coat just works!

  21. I enjoy seeing your everyday outfits. I especially love the pretty pink floral Liberty print shirt and the other pink floral with the ruffles. They are so pretty and feminine! I don’t wear a lot of prints, but I would wear either of these. Thank you for sharing!

  22. Kay I hope you continue to feel better! You look fantastic in all of your outfits. Thank you for showing what you wear because it does give all of us inspiration and ideas on how to put items from our closet together. Love your modern style to help keep us updated! ❤️❤️❤️

    Thank you for the BFMD!

  23. I want to get a trench coat for spring, and I like the navy one you modeled in today’s post, I keep hesitating to buy one because they all seem to be double-breasted. I’m a 5’4, 130lb, rectangle with small breasts. Would it accentuate my lack of curves?

  24. Hi Kay. Hope you recover completely soon! Love the Sunday outfit of red sweater, white(or are they cream?) jeans and silver shoes. You
    Look great in red!

  25. The red Merino sweater is so pretty! is it machine washable? Yes, blessing someone is so good to do, Thanks for the reminder!

  26. Sorry to hear that you’ve been ill. I think it’s interesting when vacation often ends with a little sickness. It’s like our bodies telling us were still needing rest. Hope you’re 100% soon.

  27. “How I really dressed for my day” posts are my absolute favorites. It’s like a behind-the-scenes look for us! 🙂 Hope you feel better to enjoy the weekend!

  28. Hope you feel better soon! Yes, when you’re happy in an outfit, others see that and respond to it! And I think that’s why we’re your readers – we want to be happy in our clothes!

  29. I enjoyed your scripture and the encouragement to boost up husbands. What is your church affiliation if I might ask. I love small congregations. I’m using your blogs to motivate myself to lose weight so that I can do tuck-ins and belts. Right now, that trend just accents my stress belly. You are an inspiration Spiritually and in fashion couture.

    1. Hi Beth, we are a non-denominational church but we hold to doctrine that lines up with Southern Baptist. We are a small house church hoping to grow but also very determined to focus on true discipleship and a biblical organization.

  30. I think as a society we have become much too “casual” in our dress. That is why you received so many compliments at the mall. You looked like you put A little time, effort and thought into your outfit. It would be nice if everyone did the same before they went out the door.

  31. The time change (and a week of cold wet weather!) also threw me for a loop!
My favorite was your Wednesday outfit – love the subtle yet springy look! And wide legs with pointy toes is always a perfect match!

  32. I love your pointed shoes with wide leg pants. I can’t seem to find any that feel comfortable on my feet.

  33. Love the Liberty of London print! Beautiful! I wish Frank and Eileen made their popular shirt in plus sizes 🙁

  34. I appreciate all the styles that you share with us. I’ll tell you, I keep looking at those Veronica Beard sandals, I absolutely love them! The only similar ones I found are Anne Klein, they are so similar but the heel is gold, I like them though! I found a pair at JCPENNEY, much more casual but similar vibe. You inspire me to look for classic style in my price range. I just ordered a quince linen dress!! 🙂

  35. Last year I tried wider leg pants and was surprised at how comfortable they were. I’m not ready to try Barrel leg pants tho !
I’d love to see more floral prints for spring. It’s easy to put an outfit together several ways if a floral has several colors.

  36. Kay, you were right about our trench coats being a magnet for complements! Inspired by your example, I wore my lovely capri blue trench coat to the dentist’s office on Thurs. Several complements. When the dentist came in after my cleaning, she complemented my coat too, even though it was draped over a chair. Ha! Good reminder to wear my trench coat more often this spring. I’ve never owned one until you modeled them and encouraged us to add one (or more) to our spring wardrobes. I fell in love w this blue one and bought it on a great Talbots sale last summer (along w 2 capri blue tops so I could have that chic top and matching jacket look you also recommend). Thanks so much for all your great style coaching!

  37. Hi Kay, Thanks for generously sharing your design and retail research. You are an inspiration in addressing women, body and soul.

  38. Sorry you have been feeling sick. That seems to happen a lot after a trip or plane flight. Take care of yourself! Love the new collection from Talbots, the blouse is so pretty! Have a great week.

  39. Hi Kay, I enjoyed the outfit of dressed for my day with the tshirt, short casual jacket and sneakers. The lightweight jacket is good to throw on if chilly. Not too fond of the silver sneakers, but, did try on a pair of silver loafers that were comfy! I am shopping for a pair of jeans in the future. I am going for the straight leg and want to try the barrel leg ones for fun. We will see how it looks on me as I am 5’2”. Glad you are better.

  40. Hi Kay, Thank you for always having relevant content. I have been enjoying your blog since Covid. You are truly a blessing. A few years ago you introduced Collagen For Her. I have been using it ever since and had great results. I recently tried to reorder and everything is out of stock. It does not show up on Amazon either. In the past I have tried to email them through their website but never seem to get a response. Perhaps since they sponsor you, you can get some answers. The website is currently saying 3 to 4 weeks before things will be back in stock. I was just wondering if they’re going out of business? Thanks

    1. Yeah, I’m really not sure. I know it’s a very small business and I have heard from them in quite a while.

  41. The virus plague floating around these days is pretty nasty. We had it here in Texas, too. I’m glad you’re feeling better!

  42. Just bought my first pair of wide leg jeans and I love them. Thanks for all the great tips on how to style the.
