Happy Friday! With the holiday weekend and then company coming in, I’m all off on my calendar. But indeed it’s time to gather up photos of my daily outfits and share with you how I really dressed for my day this week.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

How This Works

These are my real life outfits from my own closet. Many of these things are available, but some may not be. When I can locate one quickly I’ll share substitutes and/or more economical options. But if I don’t provide one and you’d like for me to, just ask. All available items are linked in the captions of the photos. Even if they don’t look like links (sometimes they don’t highlight for some reason), they generally are. So just click through if you’re interested.

Friday

Last Friday we were with our church family in Hocking Hills, Ohio, for a little getaway. We rented a large house for us all and it was a lot of fun. We did a little hiking and I wore some new hiking clothes from L.L.Bean.

casual tee // shorts // hiking shoes

Just before our trip I realized that I had accumulated a lot of cool weather hiking clothes in preparation for my Alaska vacation, but I didn’t really have anything fresh to hike in this summer. So I purchased this cool, moisture wicking casual tee and shorts from L.L. Bean. They both fit true to size; I’m wearing a medium. And they’re so comfortable and cool.

Saturday

I didn’t let James take a full body photo of me Saturday because I had to wear his big ol’ black socks since I’d forgotten mine. Hahaha! They were sticking out above my shoes somewhat horrendously. But we had a good hike all the same.

shirt // camp pants

My shirt and camp pants are also from L.L.Bean. They fit true to size; I’m wearing mediums.

Sunday

Sunday we headed home from our getaway to greet our family from out of town. We got home just shortly before my daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter arrived. In all the activity I neglected to take a photo of my outfit of the day, but I wore the exact outfit I showed below in a previous blog post on different tops to wear with denim shorts.

split neck shirt with denim shorts
floral split neck top (and here) (TTS; wearing a medium) // Talbots relaxed denim shorts in magnolia wash (TTS; wearing misses 10) // Tory Burch Miller sandals in makeup // shoulder bag

In fact, I also wore that pretty floral split neck top (and here) the night before with my Levi’s jeans to take photos of our church family. It’s so breezy and feminine.

Monday

Monday Abby and I headed out to Talbots early to shoot Wednesday’s YouTube video. Crazy at is sounds, I forgot to take a photo of my outfit that morning. But you can see it in the video.

Afterwards I changed into my cotton polo dress. The photo below is actually from a different week, but that’s what I wore Monday after our video shoot, too.

Lauren polo dress – no longer in this color or in this color at Nordstrom (similar shirt dress for less_) // tote bag // sandals // necklace // bracelet // earrings

That dress runs true to size and it’s available in other colors, here.

Tuesday

Abigail and I ventured out with baby Hannah Tuesday morning to shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. We had a lot of fun, and Hannah did beautifully. I wore my Vince high waist wide leg cotton/linen blend pants. These were a little pricey, but I decided they were the kind of classic trouser I’ll keep in my wardrobe for years.

linen short sleeve top // high waist wide leg pants // similar Paul Green sneakers (in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale) // belt // purse // diamond chain 14k gold necklace (c/o) (use code KAY20 for 20% off at Penelope Jewelry) // 14k gold Maya hoop earrings (c/o) (use code KAY20 for 20% off at Penelope Jewelry)

The trousers are also available in another soft neutral. They run true to size. I’m wearing a 12, but I probably should have gotten the 10. Then again, I figured I’d be cinching them with a belt and I’d rather they were a little roomy and relaxed than tight. I’m wearing them with my linen short sleeve top and old Paul Green sneakers. But I purchased the new white Paul Green sneakers in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and love them even more. I’d been wearing mine for four years, and I wear them A LOT.

Wednesday

Wednesday we had a much needed day at home. I think I mainly worked, but definitely took time to spend with my sweet grandbaby throughout the day, too. In fact, that evening, after James and I took photos of a few of my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale purchases, we got to keep Hannah while Abby and Andrew went out for dinner.

Jude Connally top (c/o) (Take 25% off sitewide at Jude Connally by using my code “FFKAY”)// Jude Connally skort (c/o) (Take 25% off sitewide at Jude Connally by using my code “FFKAY”) // sneakers (in #NSale) // diamond chain 14k gold necklace (c/o) (use code KAY20 for 20% off at Penelope Jewelry) // 14k gold Maya hoop earrings (c/o) (use code KAY20 for 20% off at Penelope Jewelry) // diamond pendant necklace

I wore my Morgan skort and Angelica shirt, both made in silky soft and cool Jude cloth. These pieces along with everything else are 25% off right now in Jude Connally’s Friends & Family event. You can use code FF25 to get 25% off in the sale, but it will help me out if you use code FFKAY for the same savings instead. Thanks so much! I really appreciate it when you help support the work I do by shopping my affiliate links and using my codes. These pieces run true to size; I’m wearing mediums.

Thursday

Finally, yesterday I worked from home and enjoyed my family. That morning Abigail and I took a long walk with Hannah in the stroller. Then she helped me shoot videos of the clothes we’d purchased in the #NSale. I’ll share those on Instagram today. In the afternoon Abby and I took Hannah out with us to get frozen yogurt.

I felt comfortable all day in my red linen pants from Frank & Eileen and my Eileen Fisher sleeveless top. Go Dawgs! Hahaha!

Thanks so much for dropping in. I hope you have a great day!

Blessed for My Day

I’ve learned that friendships often have seasons. Like the tulips and daffodils that burst through the ground gloriously but only last for a small portion of the year, some of our relationships will only fill our lives with joy for a short season. Then one friend may move away or lives may simply take a different turn. And, yes, occasionally we may even differ with a friend so much about something that we have to choose to part ways.

Just because friendships change and drift doesn’t mean that the other person is bad or to blame. Likewise, we don’t generally need to be hard on ourselves when we find ourselves less in step with a friend. Instead, we may need to graciously allow the changes and treasure the memories, joys and lessons learned in our hearts for years to come. And you never know, that friendship may one day bloom again when circumstances or hearts change.

After some days Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us return and visit the brethren in every city in which we proclaimed the word of the Lord, and see how they are.” Barnabas wanted to take John, called Mark, along with them also. But Paul kept insisting that they should not take him along who had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not gone with them to the work. And there occurred such a sharp disagreement that they separated from one another, and Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus. But Paul chose Silas and left, being committed by the brethren to the grace of the Lord. And he was traveling through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches. ~ Acts 15:36-41

  1. Thanks for the reminder about friendships. I was really good friends with someone, but we disagreed politically, and she ended the friendship with me. That has bothered me for years. But now I know that I should treasure the time that we spent together and that it’s no one‘s fault. Thanks again!

  2. I’ve been interested in ordering the Frank and Eileen Lauren Polo dress. What size did you get? I have both medium and large knit tops in this brand.
    Thank you!!

  3. Kay, I have to tell you after you had posted on an earlier blog about your LL Bean hiking shoes, I went to the store and tried them. They didn’t work for me BUT their walking shoes did and they are the best of any sneaker style shoes I’ve tried so thank you for recommending LL Bean! You look great is so many of the above outfits but especially in the Loren polo dress (you always wear that color so well) and the Jude Connally outfit. Stay cool.

  4. Hi Kay, I checked w Nordstrom customer service about restocks and this is what they told me in our chat:

“Unfortunately, there won’t be any restocks in the anniversary sale. I am so sorry for this. Some of our items have very limited inventory, as you are probably already aware, and once they’re gone, they’re gone.”

Doesn’t sound right if there are returns. Oh well, saves me from checking back all the time.

    Lael

    1. Thanks for sharing Lael. However I do think returns and restocks are different things. If items are returned, and a lot usually are, we will see them pop up on the website again. But items will not be restocked by the brands. I may be wrong on that. But that’s been my experience.

  5. Hey Kay, thank you so much for the post today about friendship. It is true. I have a friend that we parted way years ago due to work and our lifestyles but now we are in contact again. We are truly enjoying each other company we don’t see each other a while, but we know we’re there for each other and it’s nice to know that you have a friend like that.

  6. I appreciate the comments on friendship. It’s hard to handle but you shed some light on it that I hadn’t thought of before. Honestly, $345 for a pair of trousers no matter how great they are will never be in my budget. And I don’t see how it could be in most budgets. But good for you to be able to purchase them and they look nice. Just not that nice haha. Yay go Bulldogs – love red and black.
