The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale early access will be open to all Nordstrom cardholders Thursday morning, July 11th, at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time. So I stopped into our local Nordstrom to try on as much as I could find that my followers had expressed an interest in. Keep in mind that the lighting is poor, my hair looks more and more disheveled as the morning went on and I didn’t always have the right something-something to complete outfits. But I’m anxious to share with you my first Nordstrom Anniversary Sale try-on for 2024.

What I Ordered in the Sale and Am Loving

I thought I’d first mention that I placed my order and paid for expedited shipping, so I’ve already gotten in a good bit of what I purchased. I’m already returning a few things, but I love these biscuit soft suede booties and these platform sneakers, both investments by Paul Green. The NYDJ Bailey relaxed ankle straight leg jeans are also a win, but definitely size down one. I bought the 10, but should have gotten the 8. And the Ab’Solution Skyrise high waist ankle bootcut jeans by Wit & Wisdom are a good fit, too. The Reiss Arla double-breasted double wool blend coat is dream and a true to size fit. And the Bony Levy Icon diamond necklace is just as beautiful as I’d hoped. I’ve have a post soon in which I model these and other pieces that arrived today.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Try-On

The Portia top by Faherty is so soft and comfortable, just a great basic that’s not so basic. And it will be perfect for transitioning from summer to fall. It’s still available in most sizes, and I found it to be true to size. I’m wearing a medium. Faherty is a good brand, and this $92.99 shirt will go up to $138 after the sale. This top came home with me.

top // skirt

The Kut from the Kloth Rose button front denim skirt fits true to size. It has a lot of give, but I wouldn’t size down for fear of it looking stretched across the hips. It hits just below the knee on me; I’m 5’8″. Denim skirts continue to trend for fall, so this $72.99 skirt could be a great purchase. It goes up to $109 after the sale.

I’m wearing the marled knit double breasted blazer from Nordstrom below with my Vince linen blend trousers that I’d worn to shop that morning. The trousers are not in the sale, but this double breasted blazer is one of my favorite finds. It is super soft and a nice heavy weight that will be perfect for cool fall days. It has a lot of stretch and will look great with jeans for a relaxed look or dressier pants for work. I’m wearing my TTS medium. This blazer came home with me.

The Caslon stretch cotton blend v-neck t-shirt above is more substantial than I thought it would be. It came home with this one. I’m wearing my TTS medium.

Below I’m wearing the Nordstrom crewneck cashmere sweater in tan doeskin heather, but it also comes in grey light heather, grey mineral and pink puff, all soft colors. It runs true to size; I’m wearing a medium for a slim fit, but you could size up for an oversized fit. I have had this sweater in my wardrobe for a couple of years and wear it frequently. In fact, I took mine on my Alaska trip last month.

I wanted you to see this beautiful Faherty Harlow floral linen blend maxi skirt because it is so flattering. I love the smocked waistline. And the cheerful floral print will be perfect for fall and transitioning into the season. I think it would look best with a close to the body tee and a denim jacket. Add boots, sandals, mules or sneakers to complete the look.

Abigail went to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale with me and was a good sport to let me include a few of her outfits, too. She came home with both of these pieces. They’ll be perfect for the casual lifestyle this stay-at-home mom leads.

pants // top

Abigail is wearing the Caslon ultra high waist patch pocket wide leg pants in tan safari. They run true to size; she’s wearing her usual 6. She topped them with the long sleeve thermal polo, also from Caslon. This top runs a little small; Abigail sized up to a medium.

Below I’m wearing the Paige Anessa high waist raw hem wide leg jeans. I already have these jeans in another wash and a cropped pair, too. They are an extremely popular jean that fits almost every woman beautifully. I wear a size 31. Unfortunately these jeans are currently sold out, but they could definitely be restocked as returns come in. They’re worth watching for.

The crewneck cotton blend sweater from Treasure & Bond is a comfy cozy sweater that comes in several nice shades. I particularly like the purple gumdrop, but they didn’t have it in the store. It fits true to size; I’m wearing a medium for a slightly oversized fit. It is a little long and thick, which prevents it from giving you those great proportions. But it could be nice over slimmer fit jeans.

Below Abby is wearing the Billabong sunset view cotton jumpsuit. How cute is that??? It runs true to size; she’s wearing a small. It has adjustable straps which make this jumpsuit work nicely for her 5’8″ frame. She’s wearing it over a Caslon v-neck tee, just like the one I showed above. She wears a small in the tee. Abby bought both of these pieces, which will be great for her mom life.

Below I’m wearing the Halogen plaid oversized one-button jacket and straight leg pants. I found the jacket to fit a little snug with this cashmere sweater (detailed above). But I suspect it would have fit nicely TTS over a silky blouse or simple tee.

The straight leg pants do fit a bit snug on me. I’m wearing a size 10 and probably if I were to get off the few pounds I gained while being sick recently, they’d feel much better. These are beautiful, fairly lightweight classics in a very pretty plaid of warm ash brown and beige with a faint blue or grey stripe in there, too. They work together very nicely since suits are trending this year, but either separately would work great, too.

Below I tried the Nordstrom striped cotton poplin button-up shirt. I’m wearing my usual size medium. Unfortunately Abigail and I both felt that this was one of those shirts that actually looks better on the hanger than it does on a person…well at least better than it does on either of us. It’s a beautiful blue stripe and I love the contrasting diagonal stripe on the front pocket. But the shirt is very long and fits slim to the body, not full. And the fabric feels a little stiff, too.

Now here’s a favorite. I purchased the Portia top by Faherty, also shown at the top of the post, and these Faherty essential organic cotton blend drawstring pants. The pants are only available in navy and run true to size. I’m wearing a medium very comfortably. They don’t really have any stretch to speak of, but they are a soft, cotton-modal-linen blend that feels perfect for everyday life, especially as we transition to fall in September and October. These were a sweet surprise I didn’t know I needed, but I’m glad I found.

So that’s wrap on the items I tried on in the store. Truly, there is so much more available on line than in the stores, which is quite the shame for those employees who do their very best to help you find what you’re looking for. But I highly recommend shopping online.

Many of you have been so sweet to tell me that these blog posts and my #NSale Nsider Newsletter have been helpful to you and you’d like to make sure I get a commission when you shop. Thank you. I appreciate that more than you know. I love serving you this way, but I am very grateful when you choose to support my work. All you need to do is simply enter the sale through any one of my Nordstrom links, any product you see here or through this link RIGHT HERE. (Keep in mind that if you then link through an ad or another influencer’s links, those will cancel out mine. But in the end I just want you to have fun shopping the sale!)

Thanks for stopping in for my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale try-on post. I’m sure I’ll have more! And you can see all of my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale coverage HERE or through the link at the top of the blog.

Blessed for My Day

Don’t give up on him or her yet. Do you know someone, or, better yet, love someone, who is living far from the Lord? You hurt for them, pray for them, hope for them. And some days you feel like they’ll never return to their roots or meet the Lord for the first time. In fact, some days it seems like they’ve drifted even further away.

Truly, we have no control over other people’s lives, regardless of how much we love them and care. But you can trust that God is at work. When I look over the stories in Scripture, I’m reminded of how often God worked things together for good…over a time span of years and years, sometimes generations. We must trust that God is at work and He will perfect it in His time.

For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. ~ Philippians 1:6

xoxo, Kay

  1. Hi Kay. Loved seeing you and Abby together. I did some shopping at 12:15 am and used your link. Hope you get the credit. You have always responded to my comments and that is much appreciated when I know you receive a gazillion comments from your followers. . Also, us Georgia raised girls need to support each other. LOL. Enjoy your time with your family. I was in Smyrna yesterday to cuddle my 2 week old granddaughter and play with her almost 2 year old big brother. Grandparenting is such a joy and a blessing. Have a great day.

  2. Hi Kay, Thanks for all of your leg work on the N sale. I’m just stopping by to tell you I LOVED your Talbot’s video yesterday with your daughter. You ladies tried on so many pieces, and gave us a fabulous look at how things fit. Thank you 🙂

  3. I cried thru what you said about waiting for a loved one. This was so timely for me, as I am in this place for my husband and daughter now.
My daughter loves the Lord but not attending church. Thank you for these words you spoke today. Know that they went out and did not return

  4. Good morning Kay,

I would love to take a look at the Paul Green platform sneakers but when I click on the link, it takes me to the Paul Green biscuit soft suede booties (which are beautiful). Just FYI – I’ll watch for a correction.

Thank you for what you do!

  5. Loved the try one video with you and Abby yesterday! Loved many of the items today especially the Portia top and drawstring pants. Look good on you!

  6. Thanks for all your prep and help! I submitted my order right after midnight last night. Unfortunately my #1 pick, the Nic+Zoe plaid knit cotton jacket, sold out before that. I looked but could not find a link to sign up for any notices for when it might be restocked. How do you keep checking for returns or restocks? I entered the link on my favorites bar and can try a quick check a few times a day, but maybe you know of a better way? Thanks again for all the help.

    1. Hi Lael, I’m so sorry to hear that. It very well may come back around. One of the best things you can do if you have the LTK shopping app, which is free, is to find it in my style boards and “heart” it. That way if it goes on sale or is restocked, they’ll send you a notification. But I’ll keep an eye out for it, too. They didn’t have any Nic+Zoe things in our Nordstrom this year, which was surprising.

  7. Fun to see the try on items. I got a black trench coat that I needed from the sale. I used my note and points. I don’t need much else. I did go through your website. I resisted the lovely ivory purse-I have a lot of purses. Sigh.

Very encouraging BFMD. God loves us all so much.

  8. Thank you for your very thorough review of your Nordstrom try-on. Since I am close to the same size as you (same height and close to the same weight, but more belly), I appreciate not only seeing the clothes on you but also knowing what you decided to purchase. I am really interested in the Nordstrom knit blazer and will wait for the medium to be restocked (and will purchase through your link of course). I’m also interested in your socks. I have purchased so many pairs that were a failure, maybe yours will work for me. And your daughter is just precious!

  9. I love jeans skirts, but here’s my conundrum. Aside from cowboy boots (not my style), what else can I wear on my feet?

    1. Ballet flats look pretty with denim skirts. But you can also wear other flats, such as slingbacks. And sneakers have their moment with denim skirts as well.
