How I Really Dressed for My Day – 11/21/20-12/03/20

December 4, 2020

Can you believe it’s Friday? While 2020 has drug along in some ways, December is bound to fly by. The countdown to Christmas always speeds things up…unless you’re a child, I guess. LOL! On Fridays I’m trying to share with you how I really dressed for my day for the previous seven days. I took off last Friday, so I have a few more daily looks to share with you this round.

How I Really Dressed 11_21_20

Sizing Information

Just for reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 155. I generally wear a size 8 or medium in dresses, tops, jackets and pants (or 29), so that’s what I’m wearing in these looks unless I tell you otherwise. That way you can assume everything I show you is true to size unless I alert you to sizing up or down. I wear a size 9.5 shoe and, again, I’ll just let you know if I sized up or down in a shoe, otherwise it’s true to size.

How this Works

I’m going to share the photo of my look followed by the information you need to know. I’ll include any fit issues; otherwise, assume that the items fit true to size. I’ll also try to share sale alerts and substitutions. Then you can shop the look through the Looks widget I provide. The links are affiliate links. That means that when you shop through them, I potentially earn a commission, but at no cost to you. Thanks so much for shopping through my links and supporting the work I do here.

Evening Outdoor Gathering with Friends

I wore this first outfit to visit with friends around their outdoor firepit on a Friday evening. We had pizza and just enjoyed catching up. I have on this long sleeve layering tee underneath my Fair Isle sweater for extra warmth. And my fleece lined pants kept me warm and comfortable. I LOVE these pants. These are the black ones; I shared the navy in this week’s video.

One of my readers reported this week that she has also fallen in love with these fleece lined pants and has spread the word to her friends who now love them, too. And my mom purchased a pair yesterday. The reader said she found them to run a little large and sized down, but I find them to be pretty true to size, but maybe a little roomy.

Saturday at Home

The next day was a Saturday and I just wore my black joggers and this pink textured cowlneck pullover. Both pieces are so comfortable. And they run true to size.

I wore my Tory Burch sneakers, which really are my favorite, but for a more economical option I highly recommend the Madewell Sidewalk sneakers. Those run a little large, so order a half size down. And check out Madewell’s new high top sneaker. Love them! Both Madewell options are reasonably priced, but they’re 30% off right now.

Sunday to Church

That Sunday I attended our church’s more casual service and wore dark wash blue jeans, my red cashmere turtleneck sweater and my luxe Italian flannel blazer in tortoiseshell.

The red cashmere turtleneck sweater, which comes in a few other colors, too, is part of Talbots’ 50% off Sweaters deal now through Saturday. I love Talbots’ cashmere, and it’s selling out fast. I’m wearing my Asti Bootie by Franco Sarto, this time in caramel croco print. There are several other colors and textures to choose from, and the boots are still 40% off.

By the way, they’re practically giving this long bronze pendant necklace away now at Chico’s. I’ve really enjoyed wearing it with sweaters this fall.

Work from Home & Errands

I’m not sure exactly which day I wore this, but I was undoubtedly working from home and then got out to run a few errands. I can tell because I generally only wear my long cardigans these days when I’m mostly at home. So even if I ran errands, which the rain boots indicate, I probably didn’t even get out of the car. Ha!

Under my red cardigan (love, love, love!), I’m wearing this sleeveless mockneck top. I love having this top in my closet because I can wear it with cardigans and jackets without adding bulk underneath. And right now it’s half price and still available in all sizes. It fits close to the body, but it’s not tight at all. Silky smooth. I’m wearing a TTS medium. I’m showing it in the shopping widget below at Zappos, but it’s less expensive right now at Evereve.

Work from Home and to the Mall

I think we planned to shoot photos on this day and then the weather changed and we didn’t get to. So when I ended up shooting this “look” later, I actually switched some things around. You can see the eventual look with my leather jacket in this post.

My Allsaints Dalby leather jacket is back to its original price at Nordstrom, but it’s actually still on sale at Allsaints for 30% off (as of Thursday, 12/03/20). And it’s been restocked in more sizes, too. It’s pricey, but I shared in this post how I managed to swing it. By the way, I sized up to a 10 in this jacket.

I’m also linking to other leather and faux leather options in the widget below. In this outfit I’m wearing my black cords and this modern ribbed turtleneck in cabernet. The cabernet is almost sold out, but the turtleneck is still well stocked in black, grey and ecru.

Thanksgiving Out to Eat

Here’s what I wore to dinner on Thanksgiving. We dined at a casual but upscale tavern here in Cincinnati. If I’m not mistaken I actually ended up wearing some taupe colored suede pumps instead of my Paul Green loafers. But I think I wore the loafers until it was time to head to the restaurant because they’re just so comfortable. They’re on sale for 44% off at Nordstrom Rack now.

Shop the look through the widget below or here.

My sweater and pants were Nordstrom Anniversary Sale purchases, so they’re pretty pricey and almost sold out. I sized all the way up to a 12 in the pants. And I’m wearing a small in the sweater.

The Day After Thanksgiving Outing

On Friday James and I just got in the car and headed out to explore. We stopped for coffee…a couple of times! And meandered around an outdoor market. This outfit felt fun and festive. It was a pretty day.

My Veronica Beard sweater is still marked down, but it’s almost sold out. And my Cate Rag and Bone jeans are full priced right now, but well stocked. Both were Nordstrom Anniversary Sale purchases. I love the Rag and Bone jeans, so if you’re interested in premium denim I can highly recommend these. So soft, lots of stretch but feel like genuine denim. And these darker Cate jeans are marked down, but available in limited sizes.

My boots were an NSale purchase from last year, but these are similar and currently marked down. I’ve linked to others in the shopping widget, as well as similar sweaters and coats.

Sunday for Church

I normally reserve my jeans for the days I attend our more casual or contemporary service. But I got a little confused Sunday and before I knew it I’d put on my jeans and leather jacket and headed to the more traditional service. Ha! It was fine. People really wear a little of everything at both services.

Shop the look through the widget below or here.

I am wearing new jeans here. I’ve still been trying to find that elusive perfect pair of straight leg jeans since they’re really on trend. And I think I’ve found a couple of pairs actually. These are the AG Mari High Waist Ankle Slim Straight Leg Jeans and last week when I ordered them they were on sale, but now they’re not. At any rate, if you’re also looking for those hard to find straight leg jeans that also feel comfortable and look slimming, I can highly recommend these. You just might want to add them to your Nordstrom Wish List and watch for a markdown.

I’m wearing my Thursday lace-up boots here, and they won’t be in the shopping widget below. But I’m also going to link to some other similar boots. My Captain boots are in the Old English color and they’ve recently been restocked. And Thursday Boots is still offering a gift with purchase.

Sunday Afternoon Leisure

Sunday afternoons I usually put on some kind of leisurewear, but this Sunday I went straight into pajamas. I had just picked up these flannel PJs from L.L.Bean and was eager to try them out. They didn’t disappoint! They may look a little large, but that’s how I like my jammies. I’m wearing a medium. I’m actually just wearing the pajama set bottoms in the photo below. I love the top that goes with the set, but for some reason I decided to wear this long sleeve tee instead. I guess it’s because I was going to be watching Christmas movies and it seemed appropriate. ha!

Shop the look in the widget below or here.

In case you can’t see my t-shirt very well, I took a close up photo, too. And you can read the words in this one. So cute! I’m wearing a medium and I’d say it runs a tad large. But I’m fine with it.

Cute, huh? And they have several other options in these fun, festive holiday tees, too. I actually love the red one.

Oh, I also bought this plush hooded robe in dusty blue. I hadn’t bought a new winter robe in at least 12 years, and I desperately needed one. This one has been keeping me so warm on cold mornings and evenings. I can’t get it to show up in the widget below. Sorry about that. It’s available in several great color combinations.

Work from Home Absentee Photo

In my haste to transfer photos from my phone to the computer, I accidentally deleted Monday’s photo, but I really wanted to share that outfit with you. So I snapped another photo of it. This is what I wore to work from home Monday and then to get my hair cut and highlighted Monday evening.

Weston The Dog Crew-Neck Sweater // L.L. Bean signature denim boyfriend jeans in faded rinse // Blondo Rachelle waterproof bootie // Kendra Scott earrings // multi strand necklace in iridescent drusy // long sleeve layering t-shirt

The Weston The Dog Crew-Neck Sweater is very lightweight, more like a sweater tee. But I think it’s just darling. I wore a white long sleeve layering t-shirt underneath for warmth and it felt perfect. But you could also easily wear it with a white, red, black or grey turtleneck. My jeans are the L.L. Bean signature denim boyfriend jeans in faded rinse. They feel like genuine jeans, with very little stretch. But they do feel comfortable and lived in from the first wear. I’d say they have a mid rise.

I purchased the Blondo Rachelle waterproof bootie so I’d have a dressier but still modern boot to wear on wet days…because we seem to have a lot of those here! They felt good on my feet right out of the box and fit true to size.

Work from Home & Running Erands

Tuesday I wore some more new duds from L.L.Bean. Yeah, I finally ventured into our local L.L.Bean and I spent way to long in there! I came out with two huge bags full to share with you. In fact, you’ll see this look (with a few more pieces) in an upcoming outfit post.

leggings (true to size) // cozy pullover (I’m wearing the spruce heather and it’s almost sold out, but there are other nice colors, too) // Katahdin hiker socks

By the way my necklace is so darling, but it sold out fast. It’s from J.Jill. They have such nice jewelry. This necklace would be a lovely alternative. It won’t be in the shopping widget. Again, my boots are sold out, too.

I can’t get the items to load in the widget, so use the links above to shop the look.

Work from Home & Errands

Wednesday I managed to get out for a bit to run errands. I picked up some sweet gifts from my Mary Kay lady, Sheryl. And I stopped into Talbots to try on some pieces for my next collaboration with them. I can’t wait to show you what I picked out! (Psst! You might want to check out this sweater NOW because they’re 50% off just through Saturday.)

Anyhow, this is what I wore.

Yeah, I was pretty much head to toe Talbots because I wanted to try on some things I already own with new pieces for the collab. My coat is a couple of years old and no longer available, but I’ll try to find something similar. I get so many compliments on it. DO NOT be afraid to buy a plaid coat. They’re the bomb!

Sale Alert!!! Talbots is giving you 50% off sweaters, including cashmere, and 40% off everything else with Free Shipping on orders over $125 just through Saturday. They do have some new holiday type items in that they didn’t have just a week ago.

Unfortunately my boots are sold out. Bummer.

Work from Home and Out to Lunch

I thought I wasn’t going to get to go to lunch with my friends on Thursday because James had taken my car in to be serviced. But at the last minute one of the gals offered to pick me up so I had to shower and get dressed in a whopping 20 minutes. I threw on my red cashmere turtleneck and my new favorite jeans with my black waterproof combat boots. I accented the look with go-to jewelry, my gold Tima stud earrings and Presleigh Love Knot necklace.

Shop the look through the widget below or here.

I threw on the same plaid coat I’d worn the day before, but I didn’t get a photo. By the way, these Blondo waterproof booties are extremely comfortable, and I love that they have an inner zipper for easy on and off. And they’re still 23% off.

I have written this post in haste today. Well, I usually do. So I apologize for any errors. I’m really quite a grammar and punctuation police, believe it or not. But when you put out as much copy as I do a week, you’re bound to have a few errors. I hope you can overlook those, knowing that I really am doing the best this one-woman show can do. *grin*

I hope you have a great weekend. I’m planning to have a new gift guide up tomorrow and I have fun things planned for next week, too. Thanks so much for stopping in. Let me know if you have any questions about what I’ve shared with you today.

Blessed for My Day

You may have noticed that lately I’m posting about the Christmas story. I’m pulling thoughts from my morning devotional with the First 5 app, where we’re focusing on Advent. In yesterday’s reading about the birth of John the Baptist, we noted that John’s father Zechariah had been muted for the months leading up to his son’s birth because he had not believed the angel’s announcement that his wife would have a child in her old age. In fact, he may have also lost his hearing.

But at the end of that isolating and difficult season, Zechariah eagerly obeyed the Lord’s command the name his new son John, instead of giving him his own name, which was customary. Could it be that Zechariah’s isolating condition had quickened his heart to God, drawn him closer to Him? I do believe that when we endure hard things we have the opportunity to become more obedient to our God. Have you found this to be true in your life as well?

And it happened that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to call him Zechariah, after his father. And yet his mother responded and said, “No indeed; but he shall be called John.” And they said to her, “There is no one among your relatives who is called by this name.” And they made signs to his father, as to what he wanted him called. And he asked for a tablet and wrote as follows, “His name is John.” And they were all amazed. ~ Luke 1:59-63

  1. Good MorningKay…..

It’s funny I have a board on my Pinterest called “I Love Coats”! Which is so true. So for me to say, I love both coasts you posted today, leopard and plaid one….super cute.

    Have a great Friday!

    Blessings,

    1. Thanks Holly. One of the videos I’m taping this Saturday is on different ways to wear a colorful coat. I’ll be sharing this one. https://shopstyle.it/l/bptD3 I’m sharing the heather rose shade and it’s almost sold out. But there are other pretty colors and other coats in a similar pink. ?

  2. Kay – at 5’8″ — do you need to buy the “tall” in the joggers? My sister is tall and I think I’d like to get these for her.

  3. I had a lovely time just now perusing all these outfits! Everything looks great on you — and I can picture myself in most of these outfits. Thank you, Kay for the inspiration! Also, I Love, Love, Love your haircut! It has such a nice shape and frames your face so well.

  4. Hi Kay!
I absolutely love every one of the looks! And your new haircut…. oh my goodness! How adorable! It is a perfect cut to flatter your face. I am an Ohio girl myself but we live in Charlotte, NC now. I am so happy I found your YouTube channel, Facebook page and blog! You all make me smile every day! Blessings to everyone!

    1. Ahh, thanks so much Becky. So nice to meet you. I’m glad you found me, too! I’m really enjoying my new hairstyle. I’ll be washing and styling it for the first time today. We’ll see how it goes! ?

  5. All of your looks are beautiful! I especially like the looks with red in them. Your coats especially the plaid one look wonderful and warm. The Christmas tee is so cute that I bought two: one for my daughter and one for me.
Thanks for BFMD. Each mini- lesson instructs, nourishes, and blesses me!
    Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Great feedback, Suzanne. Thanks so much. Those T-shirts are really soft too. I hope you both enjoy them. I do love wearing red. And that plaid coat is one of my favorite ever Nordstrom sale buys. ❤️?❤️? I’m a UGA alum so it works perfectly for my heavily red and black wardrobe ?.

  6. Your new hairdo is so flattering on you! Modern and fresh! I love the Mari straight leg jeans, they fit you so well. Thank you for all you do to bring us fresh content everyday. I can’t imagine the amount of work and research you do but you pull it all together so wonderfully! And I especially look forward to the BFMD at the end of each post! God bless you richly!

    1. Thank you Nancy. It really is a lot of work, and I’m not saying that to whine or self glorify. It’s just a fact. That said, I absolutely love what I do and am so very grateful for readers like you. Thanks so much for showing up here! And thanks so the compliment on my hair. I’m very pleased with it. ?

  7. WOW, I really like your new hairstyle! I hope that it will be easy for you to style. There are so many pieces that you wore, that I really like. I could use one more pair of fleece lined pants in my closet. I am definitely going to look for an animal print (leopard) coat, but there’s a reason for the search. When I was a little girl,I had a leopard print coat that I loved to wear. Well, I wore it to one of our family Thanksgiving outings to a GT/UGA football game at GT. It rained, so my coat was soaked and ended up with a very unpleasant odor, forcing my parents to put it in the trunk for the ride home. I was heartbroken. I hope that you have an awesome day and an enjoyable & relaxing weekend!

    1. Ahh, what a fun story. I do hope you find a coat that can bring you as much joy. I really enjoy mine. And there are some great deals on the ones I shared in the shopping widget. Have a lovely weekend!

  8. Love love love your haircut! I enjoy your posts and look forward to them every day. My coworkers have noticed that I am dressing better now!
I bought the leopard print tee from Banana Republic after looking for one – really enjoy wearing it.
Thanks for the BFMD as well!

  9. Kay,
    The new ‘do’ is striking!!??
LoveLoveLove the ‘classy’ outfits this week!! ❤❤❤
Your hard work is very much appreciated by this ‘gal’!!???
    Val

  10. Kay….Your new hair style looks fabulous!!! The style is so becoming on you and I like it much better than your long hair or previous style…..not saying that in a bad way. Great choices on the outfits and the coats are gorgeous!!! I too, am doing the First 5 Advent Devotion and thoroughly enjoying it. It really brings “everything” into perspective and “points us back to the promise”. Have a great weekend.
    ~?Lisa?~

    1. Thanks so much, Lisa. I’m really enjoying it. I dried it for the first time last night and it has SO MUCH body in it. I didn’t really style it yet though so I’ll tackle that today.
