We are moving quickly towards Thanksgiving, and afterwards we have less than four full weeks to Christmas this year. So the holidays are fast upon us. Surely you will be celebrating with friends and family, and you’ll want to look a little festive even for the most casual gatherings. So in the next three weeks I’ll be sharing lots of holiday outfit inspiration. But I thought we’d start with the holiday 2024 fashion trends to try.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

I’ve gathered inspiration from some of your favorite retailers who already have in their holiday party styles. In fact, I’ve placed my orders for some of these pieces and they have started to arrive. We’ll be taking photos and videos this week! But meanwhile, let’s see what’s trending in festive attire.

Sequins & Shimmer

For the last few holiday seasons we’ve been seeing and wearing a lot of sequins and shimmer. Shine on! We’re seeing even more sequins, glitter and all that shines for this Christmas and New Years.

Adding a sequin top, shimmery skirt, glittery blazer, shiny pants or bedazzled jeans to your wardrobe is an easy way to elevate any outfit to party ready. I gathered lots of dazzling options in the shopping widget below. Many are on sale right now, so click through for more information and to purchase.

Burgundy

You can certainly enjoy wearing traditional Christmas red this holiday season. But you’ll look so current and still quite festive if you opt for trending burgundy.

Of course there are options that look more festive with gold or silver trim, velvety fabrics or ornamentation. But for a classic or more conservative look, just choose a beautiful silk blouse or burgundy slacks to make your outfit holiday ready.

Silver Shoes

Gold is always appropriate, but silver is still trending and will never go out of style. So it’s a good idea to add a pair of silver shoes to your closet if you don’t already own some.

Silver slingback heels like the ones above will look perfect with your silver sequins, glittery tops or bedazzled jeans. I found so many more for you to choose from below, too. In fact, you’ll also find trending ballet flats, Mary Janes and sneakers in the mix.

Bows

I’ve shied away from the bow trend in the past year, but I’m ready to jump in this year. Again we’ll see bows on everything from blouses to sweaters and shoes.

Adding a bow can be a big statement, so let it be. Keep other ornamentation to a minimum and add simple jewelry.

Velvet

I love adding a touch of velvet to my holiday outfits. It’s so soft and luxurious, but also a definite nod to celebration. You can wear a simple velvet button-up shirt like the one below with jeans for a casual, but celebrative outfit.

Or you can find velvet and velveteen suits galore for full on glam. I’ve got so many great options for you below.

Big Buckle Bling Belts

Belts are really on trend in 2024 because higher rise pants and fuller legs are in. So belting makes so much sense. This year I’m seeing a lot of big buckles with bling. Just wearing one with a pretty blouse and jeans can look a little “extra.”

If you’re not comfortable drawing that much attention to your waist, you can certainly skip this one. But I plan to wear the belt shown above with black jeans and under my black blazer. That way my waist is camouflaged, but the pretty pearl detailed belt buckle looks special and festive.

Faux Fur

When it’s time to add a jacket to your festive holiday outfit, go with faux fur. It’s so on trend and definitely makes a grand appearance.

You’ll find faux fur options in a variety of textures from soft “rabbit” to fuzzy sherpa. And you can choose from casual and playful or elegant and refined. I’ve gathered some great options for you below.

Which of the holiday 2024 fashion trends are you trying this year? You probably already have some of these in your closet, too. Check back in with me later in the week for tips on building your special occasion wardrobe. We’ll have you party ready and inspired by the time Thanksgiving gets here!

Blessed for My Day

I discovered years ago that when I kept my faults, fixations and foibles to myself I struggled to shake free from them. But when I shared my struggles with sin with a trusted friend or counselor, I was more prone to find release from them. It turns out there’s a reason for that.

Sin flourishes in the darkness. It grows and takes root. Soon those roots choke out the good and they wrap around our hearts and minds, keeping us captive to our addictions and habits like chains that bind. But when we share our sins with another godly person who can offer wise counsel, prayer and/or encouragement, we bring light to the situation. And when we allow that person to help us apply the Word of God to our habits and thought patterns, we bring the ungodly habit even more into the light. That’s where we’ll find healing and release.

He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion. ~ Proverbs 28:13

  1. Love the message. I will keep that in mind. Thank you for remembering to mention Veterans Day in your email. I’m noticing many retailers aren’t mentioning it like in the past when they would say Veterans Day sale. I may be more sensitive since I worked for 32 years and retired from the VA. Many of my former coworkers are veterans. I don’t want them to be forgotten. Kay I watched your video. It was so good especially the spiritual part. I’m going to try to remember to pray before I talk to people. The holiday fashions are very pretty but I don’t have anywhere to go that I could wear a lot of it. I do have a velvet jacket though. I love the burgundy and faux fur you showed

  2. Nice holiday options. I have already purchased a rich green button up vest and satin trimmed blazer from J Crew. Question about belts. I am always hesitant as to what size to purchase, online, in a belt. The size charts show the belt in inches. Are those to represent the waist measurement best suited for each belt size or is that the actual length of the belt?

    1. Hi Sandra,
I know this wasn’t directed at me but I wear belts pretty much with every outfit and always have. I have a huge collection since I’ve been “collecting” them since my 20’s. In my experience when they give the belts in inches it’s usually the lenth of the belt. If it’s the waist measurement, it usually indicates that. I have cut off excess and also have added holes to belts with a special tool I bought years ago. Comes in very handy. I’ve used it on watch straps too.

    2. Ordering belts does present a conundrum because sizing is different for every brand. I generally try to buy belts that offer plenty of information about sizing. From what I understand when a belt provides inches, that indicates the length of the buckle to the second or third hole. So to get your size you would put on a pair of pants or jeans and then run the measuring tape around your waist through the belt loops like you would a belt. That will give you the size you need, which is different (larger) than you waist circumference. And the size you need is also going to depend on where you are wearing your waistband – at high waist, mid or low. Hope that helps!

  3. Velvet, sequins, bows and metallics! I love being able to add those elements to my wardrobe during the Christmas season!

  4. Nice post. The one thing that I would add to the discussion is a comment about footwear. Here in New England, nice socks and / or slippers are essential.
I don’t know a single person who allows shoes in her home. We all discard our shoes at the doormat before entering so as not to bring dirt and snow into the house.
Also, pointy heels can damage nice wood floors. I suppose one could wear boots and bring shoes to wear, but I don’t see people doing that.
Men discard their footwear at the door as well.
