I’m swooning over some of the cheerful, beautiful colors I’m seeing in the new spring lines. And I’m so ready to swap in my heavy winter coats for lighter jackets with slenderizing silhouettes and cropped lengths. Of course, I have my white jeans on stand by, and I’m itching to wear feminine, flowy dresses and skirts, too. As spring approaches, do you have the fever, too? Yes, we’re ready for vibrant colors, interesting completer pieces and stylish spring shoes. But don’t forget to add this trending essential to your spring wardrobe, lest you struggle to pull together outfits with those fun new finds.

T-shirts. When push comes to shove, I do believe having the right t-shirts is one of the often missed keys to spring wardrobe building. A good t-shirt – one with an easy drape, a soft hand, a flattering neckline, just the right sleeves and the perfect fit – is the foundation for many a spring outfit. And this year, as in the past couple of years, the trending striped tee deserves a place in your closet.
The Must-Have Trending Essential: the striped t-shirt

While it’s certainly smart to have a few solid tees in your spring wardrobe, this year don’t forget to add this trending essential: the striped tee.

Today I’m sharing a striped tee from Splendid. I purchased it at Evereve, but it’s also available through Nordstrom. I’m wearing my usual size medium for a very comfortable and slightly (by design) oversized fit. I’ve linked my tee (at all three stores) as well as so many more great options in the shopping widget below. I’m especially drawn to that striped tee from Vineyard Vines! But the options are many and varied.

Don’t fall for that myth that says you can’t wear horizontal stripes because they make you look wider than you really are. In fact, wearing horizontal stripes under a completer piece can be very slenderizing.

The lengthwise stripes act as a staircase and draw the focus upward to your face. Plus, striped immediately add interest to an otherwise simple outfit combination.

Even a very casual, everyday look like the one I’ve styled above with 70% cotton, 27% rayon, 3% Spandex cropped pants and sandals instantly looks more special with the addition of a striped tee.

What color should your stripes be? Choose a color combination that works well with other items in your spring wardrobe. I recently purchased this coastal dune duo because I love the light and medium oatmeal shades, but I know this navy and white striped tee will get a lot of play time in my wardrobe since I wear a lot of navy…and white.

Yes, I definitely prefer the look of a striped tee under a third piece. But I do make sure I buy tees that will also look flattering when worn alone. Look for a striped tee with the kind of sleeves and neckline you prefer.

I also suggest you look for a striped tee that you can wear tucked and untucked for optimal versatility. My tee is in a slightly cropped length that falls just to my hip bones, so I can tuck it fully, give it a gentle front tuck or leave it out and still get nice proportions. That’s especially important in the spring and summer when many of us are opting for ankle length pants, like my Paige jeans shown above.

Choose wisely and your striped tee will work with casual outfits as well as more elevated ones.

How fun is this combination of white jeans and navy and white striped tee with a vibrant fern tweed lady jacket? The stripes really bring this look together in a way that a solid tee couldn’t.

Striped tees, while classic, are very on trend right now. So you’ll find so many options to choose from. Scroll back up to see the shopping widget filled with a variety of colors, sleeve lengths, necklines and silhouettes to choose from. And to shop any of my looks here, click through the captions in the photos or use the shopping widget below.

So don’t forget to add this trending essential to your spring wardrobe. What stripes will you be wearing this spring? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below.

Blessed for My Day
How good our Lord is! While our sin does offend Him, it did not close His heart to us. Instead, He reached beyond the chasm that separates us and extended grace and mercy. He loves us so much that He sent His Son Jesus to the world to die for those sins and open the door for a restored relationship. Then He sent His Holy Spirit into the world to draw us to Him. Amazing.
Let’s be sure to share this good news with the hurting world around us. Sometimes the ugliness of this world repulses me, quite honestly. It disappoints me and causes me to want to withdraw from it. But according to our scripture today, that is not what God would want me to do. I believe He has sent us into the world, likewise, to share this amazing gift of salvation and restoration with the people around us. Let’s ask Him to soften our hearts, if needed, and to empower and embolden us to share the good news liberally.
For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him. ~ John 3:17
LOVE those green jackets on you. I hope you are having fun in AZ, not working too much. I visited Sierra vista area. Soooooo pretty and so many birds. Have a safe trip.
Love the sandals! I couldn’t decide whether to buy the brown or black – decided the brown. Really enjoyed this!
You look so pretty in all these outfits and yes the stripe tee really makes the outfit pull together in a much more interesting way. I have a tank and short and long sleeve white with black stripes tees in my closet that I grab all the time for under my completer jackets. I love this Navy v neck, so might have to add that. You look great in the bright colors.
I agree, you look great in green! 🙂 Today’s BFMD is powerful!!! Hate the sin, but love the sinner (of whom, like Paul, I am the chiefest).
I bought a new navy stripe Tshirt this year. Thank you for the ideas on how to style it. I like it because it’s cropped and I don’t have to tuck it in. Like you said it’s important that it looks good without a third piece. I love the outfits on you.
Striped tee shirt is the prefect piece to add to our Spring wardrobe. The BMFD is so true. We have to pray for the people that spread ugliness around our world. Salvation is what we al need. Thank you for the message.
