Are These Popular Travel Dresses Worth it?

I’ve been influenced! I’d heard so much praise for the Brochu Walker dresses and seen how lovely they looked on other women. When one of the influencers I follow mentioned that the dresses are also perfect for travel, I knew it was time for me to order one and see what all the fuss was about. Because I couldn’t make up my mind 🤦‍♀️, I ordered three. And today I’m sharing my thoughts on whether or not these popular travel dresses are worth it.

The creation of France-born Karine Dubner, Brochu Walker is a women’s label committed to style that is distinctly feminine, sophisticated, confident and understated.

We create evocative, everlasting designs that are as luxurious as they are effortless. Less is always more, quality is never compromised, sustainability is always on our minds. ~ Brochu Walker

The Havana Dress

Brochu Walker features several iconic dresses that have developed cult followings. But the Havana dress is decidedly the dress they are most known for. This tiered skirt dress now comes in over 20 colors and a print. They carry some colors all of the time and others come and go with the seasons.

I’m wearing the Havana in java, one of their current seasonal colors. Like several of their dresses (maybe all?), the Havana is constructed in 65% polyester and 35% cotton for a beautiful washed cotton finish that is also very wearable. I wore this deep brown dress when I went out to eat with my toddler granddaughter recently and ended up with a few sweet little handprints on it. Hahaha! But they wiped off so easily with just a damp cloth, no fuss no muss.

The detail work on these Brochu Walker dresses is indeed exquisite. The buttons are thick and substantial on the Havana, and they perfectly match the fabric. And notice the piping between each tier of the full skirt. The short sleeves have a hidden cuff that makes the puffs look all the more feminine and subtle. And the collared neckline and full-length front button placket help the dress look effortless and understated.

Because the designer is French and trained at La Sorbonne, it shouldn’t surprise us that the interior of this Havana dress reveals beautiful doubled stitched French seams, which means the inside of the dress is as beautiful as the outside. The dress feels as beautiful as it looks and keeps you cool and comfortable all day long. It runs true to size; I’m wearing a medium.

The Havana dress is also available in a Havana mini dress, which hits above the knee and is about 13″ shorter than the full length version. That dress comes in over a dozen colors. You can wear either dress belted or loose and flowy, as I chose to wear mine on this day.

The Mina Dress in Poppy

I also ordered the Mina dress because I was curious about this leaner silhouette with the dropped shoulder neckline and smocked waistline. And since I love both black and red…I ordered both…with the full intention to return one, of course. Did I? Nope. I love the poppy red too much to pass on it.

Featuring a shirred v-neckline, this dress has a column skirt with slits on each side. By the way, all three of the dresses I’m wearing have ample pockets along the side seams of the skirt. I love a dress with pockets!

The fabric of these dresses truly is special. Like I said, it wears beautifully. I was able to just steam and wear. And the dresses don’t easily pick up wrinkles with wear. Yes, I do think they’re perfect options for travel, as well as everyday wear.

belt

Because I love wearing black and know that this black Mina dress will be in my closet for years, I kept it, too. So much for returning one! But it will probably turn out to be the most versatile since I can dress it up or down.

I also purchased this cognac saddle belt from Brochu Walker because I could tell it was the perfect accessory to wear with all three. The belt is completely adjustable with a slide feature rather than holes and a prong. It also comes in black. I’m wearing the size M/L so it fits true to size for a nice fit.

So are these popular travel dresses worth it? Well that depends on what “it” is, I suppose. If you travel frequently and enjoy the versatility of a classic dress on your ventures, then yes, these Brochu Walker dresses are packable, wearable and beautiful options. These dresses can be dressed up and down for a variety of outings and activities, and I truly think you could enjoy wearing them for years.

  1. These are reminiscent of the dresses I have seen, and ordered, through Quince. One concern I have as I look at the Mina dress you modeled, it appears the bodice is a bit strained across the chest. Given that, I wonder how much more that effect will be on us chesty gals. Your comment??

    1. I tried the Havana dress in two sizes and they were both too tight in the bust for me. I’m 34DD. They are very well made and I was sorry they didn’t work for me.

    2. Hi Sandra, I can’t speak to whether or not it would work for a larger bust. But I think the problem on me is that I barely even fill a B cup. So I think the bodice would actually look better if I were fuller in the chest.

  2. Beautiful dresses! The selection of colors is wonderful. The dresses remind me of the Anthropologie Somerset dresses I own. Love that they both have pockets!

  3. I like the dresses on you. My favorite is the brown one. I like the dark color. Dark brown is the only shade of brown that looks good now with my white gray hair. I guess because it’s close to black. I love how you accessorize your outfits. Thank you for your prayers on the flood victims in Central Texas. I live about 2 hours from that area. It’s so horrible. I can’t believe all the rain we’ve had in July. It even rained a little while ago. Normally we have a drought. I know once the rain stops it’s going to be a brutal hot summer but I’m almost looking forward to it.

  4. Totally off subject… but I got this email today from Nordstrom Rack and thought of you!! They have gotten a lot of the Veronica Beard in… and I knew you loved that brand! Matter-of-fact, one pair of shoes i already had in my anniversary wish list…. (Percy Slides)…. but they had a bad review at the Rack, which concerned me, and we don’t have a local Rack for returns!
But it was interesting to me that the Rack was so much cheaper …. and for the very same shoes! Anyway, just thought of you and thought I’d pass the info your way!

PS…. no need to post this comment, but this was the only way I knew to communicate!!
