Warm weather is coming, I just know it! The day we took these photos it was still in the low 50s and blustery. But when warmer weather arrives these are the kinds of outfits I’ll be wearing on repeat. And these affordable casual outfits are perfect for every day or for vacation, too.

One of my favorite warm weather outfit formulas is a pair of casual linen or linen blend pants + simple tank top + button-up shirt + sandals. In fact, this is my go-to formula once we hit warmer days. I got these super casual linen-cotton blend drawstring pants (TTS) from J.Crew Factory, a great source for classic, casual pieces at affordable prices. Just through today (Monday) J.Crew Factory is having their Friends & Family Sale with 40% off everything ONLINE ONLY. If you’re a J.Crew Passport member you’ll get an extra 20% off with code FAMILY20. Not a member? Just sign up! It’s free and painless.
These linen-cotton blend drawstring pants fit true to size and I’m wearing my usual size medium. But I do need to let you know that they are definitely a mid-rise, not a high-rise pant. So especially if you love a mid-rise, these could be a great pant for you this spring and summer. They come in five other colors in the linen blend.
I created a column of white with the linen-cotton blend drawstring pants and a simple white tank top from Gap. I ordered this ribbed tank from J.Crew but it was way too small. Maybe it was mis-sized? Or maybe they just run really small, in which case a large might have worked, but I’m really not sure. It was that small. At any rate, this white tank top from Gap is really soft and fits true to size; I’m wearing a medium comfortably. It comes in a lot of other colors, too.
Finally, I completed the column effect by topping the outfit with a pretty lavender linen-cotton blend button-up shirt, also from J.Crew Factory. This shirt is so pretty and fits true to size, if maybe a little large. It’s also available in other colors and stripes.
Next I created a similar outfit using the same formula and tank (TTS). This time I wore chambray drawstring pants and a guava gauze button-up shirt. I know some women don’t really like to wear linen, so I thought these fabrics might be of interest.
The chambray drawstring pants (TTS) feature the same mid-rise fit and tapered fit. By the way, both pairs of pants do have functional side pockets. The gauze button-up shirt fits similarly, too, and also comes in other colors and neutrals. And one more fit note: All of these separates from J.Crew Factory come in classic and petite sizes, and the pants come in tall, too. I’m wearing the classic fit.
My pretty pearl and raffia slide sandals are also from J.Crew Factory. They fit nicely true to size. Oh, and they do come in half sizes, too.
These are the types of casual outfits you’ll see me in all spring and summer once the weather warms up enough to wear sandals. I find that both the linen or linen blend and gauze shirts do not add heat, only style and comfort, especially if you buy them loose enough. And these affordable casual outfits are great for going in and out of air-conditioning all day.
Thanks so much for dropping in for a little style inspiration. Don’t forget to take advantage of J.Crew Factory’s Friends & Family savings if you’re interested in the items I showed. And be sure to sign up for Passport membership if you haven’t already and use code FAMILY20 for that additional 20% off. Do you ever worry that hard days are ahead? I’ll admit, I have a feeling we have some difficult times ahead of us. And if I let myself, I can go down a dark path of anxiety and fear. But instead I am working on walking forward with courage and strength.
I can be courageous because I know that the Lord is with us. He will never desert us. And I can be strong because He has made me strong enough to handle what I need to…by His grace. In my weakness, He is strong. If you, like me, get glimpses of a worrisome future occasionally, let’s choose not to tremble or be dismayed. Instead, let’s be women of courage and strength…because we know that the Lord our God is with us wherever we go.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” ~ Joshua 1:9
Hi Kay pleased you had a nice weekend , our weather here in UK North East of England was actually like proper Spring , Saturday was 66 Fahrenheit , I was invited along to a gorgeous Afternoon Tea at a Hotel along our beautiful Quayside ❤️It was sunny and yes there was a gusty wind , but I love the wind blowing through my hair and mind to blow the cobwebs away ha! . So so True your Blessing for today.
I too love that Formula for dressing in Spring/Summer , the ‘Column of Colour(Neutral)’ topped by a gorgeous colour shirt . That Lavender and the Guava colour are gorgeous, the gauzy shirt looks like it would be so comfortable too . And I love that the linen pants have got a cotton mix too , I really would wear those ( I’m one of those people who love linen on others but not me) and such a good price too ❤️
I am curious about your using a shirt open as a completer piece. I thought this look was long over? Thanx
I hadn’t heard that, but will be interested in Kay’s response. I find it such an easy warm weather go to
As someone who lives in Texas, an open shirt as a completer piece is very practical. Due to our weather, this is something I’ll continue to do whether it’s in style, on trend or not. For much of the year the weather is too warm for blazers, jackets, and sweaters.
Oh I don’t think so. But I could be wrong! Ha! I think this is one of those style formulas I’ll be wearing forever just because I love it. But to the point just last year we were talking nonstop about it being the year of the white tank, and one of the main ways I was seeing the tank styled was under a linen or gauze or cotton poplin shirt. I’m seeing this same formula in lots of catalogs and websites already again this spring. So I certainly don’t think it’s out of style. I’m curious, have you seen other resources say that it is? I’d love to know.
Nice casual outfits! I love linen and have several pieces, I Can hardly wait for warm weather myself. we have had Spring showers the past couple of days and we need the rain so much, not much snow at all this past Winter. Good BFMD.
I have those pants in a natural color from last year. JCrew factory keeps the same classic styles. Usually they add a new color. On me the pants run a little big but I don’t mind it in the summer heat. It’s spring in Texas. I was able to wear sandals on Sunday. Thanks for the ideas on how to style these pants.
I have tons of these pants, that I have collected over the last 2-3 years. Just bought the chambray one. I also have many of these guaze shirts. These are my typical outfits too in summer.
Thanks for showing some “truely” affordable fashion this time around.
