Two Ways to Wear an Elevated Summer Dress

In yesterday’s blog post I shared some tips for wearing a trending white dress. But today I have a great alternative, and I’m styling it two ways. I got so many compliments when I wore this Colette wrap midi dress recently, and I can’t wait to share it with you. I think it has the potential to be flattering for so many body shapes and proportions. It truly may be the perfect elevated summer dress.

The Colette Wrap Midi Dress

The Colette wrap midi dress, found exclusively at Anthropologie in their Maeve collection, is made from an extremely comfortable and flattering Viscose, linen, cotton and elastane blend, so it has some nice stretch to it. The dress features a hidden side zipper (so hidden I didn’t realize it was there until after I’d wrestled it on and off the first time, ha!) and flat, front pockets. It’s not really a wrap dress at all, but it does sort of look like one, especially if you wear the same-fabric belt that comes with it.

I personally love the midi length of this dress. It works nicely for my 5’8″ frame. But you could have it hemmed, if you prefer a shorter length. It falls 49.75″ from shoulder. The Colette dress comes in sizes XXS to XL. I’m wearing a medium for a close but very comfortable fit. I wouldn’t size up because then the dress would be too large for me in the bust. There is no snap closure at the neckline, but it stays put nicely for me. I’m wearing the dress in neutral, but it also comes in a slightly darker honey.

For this first look I styled the Colette wrap midi dress with the same-fabric tie belt (the dress has belt loops, so you’ll need to wear some kind of belt or tie) and my beige block heel slides (more economical option). I added only the smallest splash of color to this monochromatic look with my Sabine shoulder bag.

Worn with pretty heels like this, I think the Colette wrap midi dress is a perfect elevated summer dress for work and other slightly dressy occasions. But the day I received so many compliments on this dress I was actually wearing it a little more casually.

Worn with trending cognac accessories, this Colette wrap midi dress takes on a decidedly more casual look, but it’s still elevated and polished. I wore my Everlane crossover sandals and a coordinating cognac belt. I complete my accessories with my Veronica Beard Goody bag in natural hazel.

A thicker belt would work with the belt loops on the side of the dress, too. But after trying several different options, I really liked the way this thinner belt looks looped here in the front. Bottom line, I love the cognac accessories with this neutral colored Colette wrap midi dress.

For both looks I kept my jewelry simple but impactful with my Maya 14k gold hoop earrings (c/o) (use code KAY20 for 20% off) and Arabella diamond chain 14k gold necklace (c/o) (use code KAY20 for 20% off), both from Penelope Jewelry. I did add some pretty fresh pearl stretch bracelets at my wrist, too.

So what makes this Colette wrap midi dress the perfect elevated summer dress? It’s super comfortable, very sharp looking and obviously versatile. I love that I can dress it up or down by changing out my accessories, but it still keeps its elevated appeal. I think this is a dress I’ll wear for several years at least. Which is your favorite way to style it?

Blessed for My Day

Sometimes friendship requires more than just having a good time together and easy-going conversation. There are times when friends must sacrifice for one another. A true friend is loyal in hard times and in good. She looks out for your best interests, speaks the truth, defends your honor to others and stands in the gap, if necessary. Do you have that kind of friend?

More importantly, can your friends count on your to be that kind of friend for them? Let’s face it, those characteristics sound good. But it’s not always easy to go the extra mile for a friend. The temptation may be to keep quiet when you need to speak up on behalf of your friend. Commit today to be a friend that others can count on, one that truly loves and shows that love often and willingly.

So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, “May the Lord demand it from the hands of David’s enemies.” And Jonathan made David vow again because of his love for him, because he loved him as he loved his own life. ~ 1 Samuel 20:16-17

  1. I would say that I like the casual way of wearing it best. Mostly because it is able to be done! How was the cruise?

  2. I think this dress is really sharp! I like it better with the block heel sandals and blue and white bag.

  3. That dress looks great on you! I like it the elevated way you demonstrated, with the same color tie belt, keeping the look monochromatic. I don’t know why, but my brain keeps wanting to put an ivory quilted leather handbag with that look.

  4. You look great in that dress. I love how you styled it both ways. I’m very picky when it comes to dresses and I would definitely wear that dress. I wish it was on sale.
