Welcome to Dressed for My Day. This week we’re focusing on putting together great outfits with the pieces in our curated wardrobes. So today I’m sharing a double whammy with a modern spring look and a little exploration into what it takes internally to really show up stylishly on a consistent basis. PLUS, much of what I’m sharing with you in today’s outfit is either available at a discount or part of Nordstrom’s Spend & Get Bonus Notes promotion.

Modern Spring Look
lace & crepe top (also in other colors) wearing a small // balloon jeans at Nordstrom or at Madewell wearing size 29 // linen blazer (30% or 40% with code MOM) TTS // shoes (available in other colors, 40% off) TTS // demi bracelet // pearl bracelet // gold pearl hoop earrings (use code KAYHARMS for 10% off) // sunglasses (more economical option)

First let’s run through the details of this outfit. Then I’ll share with you the four attitudes that I think are required for true style.

I love, love, love the way this outfit turned out. I’ll be honest, right after we shot these photos I became very nervous about them. I dreaded seeing them and almost considered not showing this look on the blog. Now why is that??? I think there are several modern choices in this look that took a little courage to pull off. Oops. I’m getting ahead of myself. Anyhow, when I actually did see these photos I was amazed at how much I like this look.

Modern Spring Look

I said we’d go over the elements, so let’s do that. Check out all that white. Anytime we choose to wear multiple pieces in a particular color, it’s a bold choice. But white? That’s even bolder. But I did it and you absolutely can, too. I love the combination of this lacy yoke white shell with the linen blazer. They’re not exactly the same tone of white, mind you. They don’t have to be. Don’t overthink it.

Modern Spring Look

The lacy yoke white shell runs large; I’m wearing a small comfortably. It’s available here in other colors, too. It’s by Halogen, a Nordstrom brand.

Right now through Sunday, May 9, Nordstrom is helping us get ready for the July Nordstrom Anniversary Sale with their Spend and Get Bonus Notes promotion. If you spend $100 you’ll get a $20 bonus note. Spend $150 and receive a $30 bonus note. And Spend $250 for a $60 bonus note. Of course, you’ll have to be a Nordy Club member, but it’s free to sign up. The bonus notes are not Nordy notes; they’ll be sent out around June 23 and expire on August 22. Also, if you apply for a Nordstrom Card right now you can receive an additional $40 note and qualify for early admission to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.

So I’m glad to share this outfit with you today because so much of it is available at Nordstrom.

Modern Spring Look

The Madewell balloon jeans are available at Nordstrom, too, or at Madewell. If you’re wanting to try one of the more modern jean silhouettes, this is a great one to start with. In fact, I think these were the first pair I purchased and I’ve really enjoyed wearing them. They run a tad large; I’m wearing a 29 and they’re roomy. But that’s part of the charm of these 99% cotton, high waist jeans. By the way, they have them in a wider range of sizes and colors at Madewell.

Modern Spring Look

I purchased my white linen blazer at Talbots a couple of years ago and it has become one of my most worn pieces in my wardrobe. If something happened to it, I’d immediately run out and buy another one. Ha! That’s how much I lean into it spring through summer. It runs true to size and pairs with so many things in your closet, from jeans to dresses to shorts to dress slacks. The blazer is not included in the shopping widget below, but you can find it here. And right now it’s 30% off. But you can get 40% off your highest price item right now with code MOM.

Modern Spring Look

I accessorized my all white plus denim look with these ultra modern Franco Sarto slingback flats. I ordered several different styles of white flats and these were by far the most comfortable and wearable. The Franco Sarto slingback flats run true to size and come in other colors and textures, too. I love the airy blue leather crocs and the sand leather crocs (great choice for a modern nude flat). And right now they’re 40% off, so they’d make a great Nordstrom purchase toward those bonus notes. Check out that fun modern heel.

Shoes

My pearl hoop earrings are from Rachelyn Jewelry. I just discovered the other day that Rachel’s mom is one of my readers and part of our Private Facebook Group. How fun is that??? Rachel has given our community a coupon code that will get you 10% off your order. She has beautiful, feminine jewelry, and it’s all handmade. In fact, she even offers to customize jewelry for a special occasion – think Bridal jewelry.

I kept my jewelry very pared back here. Besides the pearl hoop earrings, I’m just wearing a pearl bracelet and another layering bracelet, along with my Nordgreen watch. Remember, Nordgreen is giving us a special deal, too. Through Sunday you can get a watch and extra band bundle for the price of the watch alone, plus 15% off with code KAYHRMS.

Modern Spring Look

So in the end I think these elements created a truly modern spring look. This is one I can really wear and enjoy.

Finally, let me offer up those four attitudes that I think good style requires. Whether you want to wear a modern spring look like the one I’ve shown here or you just want to consistently wear styles that best reflect your personality and lifestyle, you’ll need:

  • confidence – We need confidence to make bold choices, but also to stay in our own lanes. We need confidence to square our shoulders, lift our chins, smile and walk boldly into any room, feeling good about what we’ve put on and how we’re wearing it.
  • self-awareness – Good style requires that we know who we are and who we’re not. That means we’ll have that confidence, but also a healthy dose of humility to keep us grounded. In the long run self-awareness helps me dress more authentically so that the “real me” shows up every time.

  • grace – Grace makes me more aware of other people and less consumed with me. When it comes to style, grace reminds me to pull myself together and present my best self so that I can then serve others and treat them graciously. Grace yields a balance between putting a little effort into my appearance but then shifting my focus outward.
  • joy – When I have a joyful heart, my style reflects that. Whether I’m wearing all black, all white or lots of color, that joy will still exude from my outfit and help me appear more relatable. Joy also compels me to make fun fashion choices, rather than always playing it safe. It helps my style to evolve and stay fresh.

I hope you enjoyed today’s post about how to achieve a modern spring look. Thanks so much for stopping in. Don’t forget about the Nordstrom Spend & Get Bonus Notes promotion as well as Talbots’ deal of 30% off + 40% off one item with code MOM. Have a great day!

Blessed for My Day

This morning in my daily Bible reading I was reminded of the importance of obedience to God. Indeed, God desires our obedience more than sacrifice. Yes, God wants us to worship Him. But obedience is indeed the truest form of worship. Without obedience our worship rings hollow and is even offensive to our holy God.

Charles Stanley said in today’s Bible reading that consistent obedience requires three attitudes. (Attitudes are important!) If we have a passion for understanding God’s Word, a passion for righteous living and a passion for seeking God’s will on a daily basis, we will be more prone to obey God in the little and big things of life. These inner attitudes will result in a lifestyle of obeying God and pleasing Him.

And Samuel said, “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,
as in obeying the voice of the Lord?
Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,
and to listen than the fat of rams. ~ 1 Samuel 15:22

Spread the love

  1. Great looks, but I stopped shopping Nordstrom’s over four years ago when they decided to get political. There are plenty of other options out there.

    1. If I had to drop every company because of their politics, I’d have nowhere left to shop! That said, I just don’t understand why theses companies don’t stay out of it. It’s not a good “look” for them, no matter what side of the aisle they are on.

    2. The white top and jacket are just right and wearing them with my all time favorite shade of jeans just makes the whole outfit classy buy relaxed. Spot on, girl!!

    3. Same. Stopped shopping at Ann Taylor too. I wish businesses would stick to business and embrace all customers.

    4. Love the top and blazer but just can’t get with the balloon jeans and shoes. Glad you are confident wearing them.

  2. Love the outfit, except for the balloon jeans. An alternative is a classic straight leg jean.Balloon jeans make everyone look heavier than they are.

    1. I agree 100%! I usually love these posts and do love it except for the balloon jeans. Kay, you always look so cute and pulled together but this would not look good on me or most people, in my opinion. SORRY….

    2. I agree about the ballon jeans. They make everyone look bigger and heavier. I’ve just been skipping posts that feature them.

  3. I’m excited to start wearing my white pants, jeans, tops, and blazer. After this long crazy year it’s almost like welcoming home long lost friends. LOL I’m still on the fence about balloon pants and jeans. At only 5’2″ I’m not sure I can carry off that look. I’m thinking that straight leg jeans and pants rather than my usual skinny style will work better for me.

  4. I have several pair that resemble the look already. I have no hips so I more or less had to get use to it. They look comfortable and just the opposite of leggings. The fashion people do that. They will turn and go exactly opposite.
As for boycotting stores, I say the marketplace will decide that one. Their bottom line profit gives them an attitude adjustment fast.
BFMD-I’ve been thru big changes this year but It has been my attitude that has helped me. I’m blessed with what I had and what’s to come. Grace and joy abounds if we look for it. In every area of our lives.

  5. I love the white blazer. I bought one through J Crew when you showed it last month with an outfit and it was 50% off.
Love it. Have worn it a couple times all ready. Love with straight leg jeans. I too do not care for the balloon pants. Not for me. Hope they are a short trend. Thanks for the four attitudes. How true. Have a blessed day.

  6. Kay, your description of each attitude for good style rings true for me, especially Grace. I think when I look good, I feel good and when I feel good, I do good. You have a wonderful way of explaining things.

    1. Hi Susan. I’m so glad that resonated with you and that you restated it like that. I love how you put it! Thanks for sharing. ?

  7. I love the blazer, Kay and I’m a frequent Talbots customer. However, it’s too long for me even in the petite length. I’d love to find another option somewhere else.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  8. I’m sorry to ask but… did I miss where you said the size you bought your white jacket in? Love that look! Thanks!

  9. Love this outfit! I’ve never owned a white blazer, but you’ve shown us so many great waits to style one, I just put the Talbots blazer in my cart. I still can’t embrace the style of jeans you’re wearing, but you sure do pull off the look with style. Thanks!

  10. Hi Kay, I was looking at the reviews of the cute top. Many say it’s sheer and needs something underneath. Did you find this to be true? It doesn’t look like you have a cami or anything under, but hard to tell. Thanks!

    1. No, I didn’t feel like it’s too sheer at all. Maybe some of the colored ones are? I just wore a flesh toned bra underneath.

  11. Hi Kay,

You look fantastic! I absolutely love the outfit. Next on my shopping list are the balloon pants. I hope they look just as good on me as they do on you.

    Cara

  12. Sometime id love to hear about how you decide what to order and the process you go through of ordering, avoiding shipping costs, returning etc.
Sometimes it is overwhelming to me so I just don’t order anything. But try ons in many stores is still not an option here right now.
