Why I Didn’t Get Dressed for My Day This Week

I’ve never been so grateful for Friday! It’s been quite the week, and I’ll spill the tea in just a bit. But let me be up front about something. I only got dressed for my day five of the seven past days. I like doing these semi-weekly daily outfit roundups because many of my readers enjoy them, but also they keep me motivated to show up each day, pulling together a real outfit rather than just wearing the loungewear that is on my shelf in the closet from where I wore it last. But alas, this week was a little different…

I’m taking all the blame, but there were a few mitigating factors that also led to me phoning it in on Wednesday and Thursday. My husband has been quite sick with bronchitis and we’ve been keeping our distance. Fact: We all need a hug every now and then! And I’ve not had one since he greeted me at the airport last Friday right before he got ill.

Second we’ve had snow on the ground for two weeks now. I love it. I truly do. And we can get out and about in it just fine. I even took care of the snow on the driveway all by myself this week – something I’d never done. But the extreme cold and the bleak scenery has given me the winter blahs, I must confess.

Finally, and perhaps most significantly, I’ve been doing my Kroma 5-Day Reset. I absolutely LOVE how I’m feeling as a result of this high nutrition, clean eating, cleanse. After indulging too much in sugar, processed carbs, wine and rich food, I was experiencing a lot of inflammation, joint pain, insomnia, brain fog and weight gain. And this nutrient rich, protein packed cleanse has completely rectified that. My body feels better than it has in months and I know I’ve lost about five pounds. I’m sleeping much better, too. But…

I like food. And this week I’ve only eaten the Kroma packaged drink, broth and porridge mixes with their allowable add-ins (clean protein like grass-fed chicken, some fresh and frozen vegetables and fruits and unsweetened, organic, non-dairy milk). My Limited Edition 5-Day Reset does include a jar of the cookie butter, which is basically a yummy nut butter, and I’ve been able to have two tablespoons of that each day. And they threw in an absolutely delicious bar of dark chocolate, of which I can have one bite-size square each evening. I have looked forward to that chocolate bar every day and savored every crumb.

The 5-Day Reset is very doable and I’ve stuck to it like glue. I have also felt good, done my workouts without a problem and felt nourished, never physically deprived. BUT I love food. And I’ve missed it. So there’s that.

All that to say, about Wednesday afternoon when I was trying to prod myself to get a shower and change out of my pajamas into a real outfit, I decided to give myself some grace instead. I did get that shower, as I have done every day. But I changed into my Frank & Eileen Catherine sweatpants and flannel shirt and called it a day. I didn’t put on makeup and I didn’t bother to take a photo. I did hop onto Instagram to talk about the cleanse, so I don’t mind being seen without makeup. I just didn’t bother to set the photo up.

The next day I did the same thing. What I lost somewhere along the way this week was motivation. I didn’t feel deprived. I didn’t feel sick. I didn’t feel sad. I just also didn’t feel motivated.

Today I’ve already purchased a ticket to a matinee movie. I know that I need to schedule something to do today in order to get a little pep back in my step. It’s funny how much more motivated I already feel. So if you’ve had a week anything like mine – and they’re quite common in the winter – I encourage you to yes, give yourself a little grace, but also maybe set up something you enjoy doing. Don’t just keep going through your list of things you need to do and berating yourself for not doing them. Kick-start your motivation with something enjoyable to look forward to. Let’s check out the outfits I did wear this week.

What I Traveled in Last Friday

Last Friday I had a pleasant day with my parents and aunt before traveling home to see my honey. I decided to wear one of my more colorful sweaters with my black High Hopes pants from Ayr.

similar jacket // sweater // silk scarf // pants // boots // purse // earrings // necklace

Those Ayr pants are one of my favorite purchases of 2025 and I continue to reach for them. I especially love them for travel. And this weekend Ayr is having their biggest sale of their year as they celebrate their birthday. They rarely offer discounts at all, but just through Sunday you’ll get 20% off site-wide. They’re a great source for sustainable, slightly elevated, modern fashions for a more casual lifestyle. I just ordered these straight leg jeans (I always size up one to a 31) and this skirt, which is supposed to be similar to my High Hopes pants (I have a large in both). And their wider leg jeans, which I’ve had for two years, are one of my favorite pairs.

How I Dressed for a Day at Home Saturday

Saturday I stayed home to unpack, do laundry and catch up on odds and ends in my office. I stayed casual and comfortable, but put myself together in a coordinating outfit from Spanx. These Air Essentials separates are super soft and they come in a full range of sizes, including tall and petite offerings.

pullover // wide leg pants // similar sneakers

Mine are the wide leg pants, but I really want to check out their other silhouettes. I wear a regular length in these and I’m 5’8″, but I have to wear my platform sneakers with them. So take that into consideration when ordering.

What I Wore Sunday

Sunday James and I didn’t go to church because he had started getting sick. I still got dressed for my day because I knew if I didn’t I would regret it. It’s hard enough keeping days straight when I don’t go to church on Sundays, but if I had stayed in pajamas or loungewear all day it would have definitely felt like another Saturday.

similar jacket // sweater // pants // purse // boots // earrings // long sleeve t-shirt

Plus I needed to get out and buy a few things at the grocery store for my 5-day reset. So I put together a chic but easy outfit of black corduroy pants and a sweater. I wore this long sleeve tee underneath to add a little light and warmth to the look. I wore my Blondo waterproof booties since there was snow on the ground.

What I Wore to a Nail Appointment & Mall

Monday I had scheduled a much needed nail appointment. Since James was even sicker by this point I made an executive decision that we would not record a video as we had planned. So I got in a try-on session at J.Crew instead. Knowing I would be in and out of clothes at least once, I kept my outfit simple.

similar jacket // turtleneck / /sweater c/o // trouser jeans c/o // beanie // purse // sneakers

I wore my trouser jeans and a simple turtleneck under a sweater. Then I finished the outfit with my sneakers so I could get in some steps at the mall, too. By the way I noticed that Ann Taylor is currently offering $30 off these jeans. They run true to size; I wear a 10. And they’re very comfortable and smart looking.

How I Dressed to Run an Errand Wednesday

And the last day I really got dressed for my day…until today…was Wednesday. I was still feeling on top of things at this point. And I needed to get out to pick up James’ prescriptions. So for the first time ever I headed out to shovel the snow. James decided I should try the leaf blower first, so I actually ended up getting all of the snow off the driveway with that. Still. I felt so Midwestern!

similar jacket // turtleneck is no longer available // sweater // jeans // boots // purse // similar gloves // earrings // beanie

I started this outfit with my Sorel waterproof booties since I would be out in the snow. I topped a favorite pair of straight leg medium wash jeans with a turtleneck and pretty Fair Isle pullover sweater. Before heading out I added a warm quilted coat from J.Crew, my gloves and a beanie. I didn’t see a soul that day since I went through the drive-through at the pharmacy. But it was definitely good to get dressed for my day.

So those are my outfits for the week plus my true confessional. Ha! But now I’m off to get dressed for a good day…even though it is snowing like crazy out there! Have a good one!

Blessed for My Day

Discretion is one of the marks of a gracious lady. I think we all want to be a beautiful woman, one others want to be around and enjoy. But we’re amiss if we focus all of our attention on taking care of our physical appearance without also “grooming” our inner woman. One of the ways we can groom a more beautiful heart is by relating to other people with wisdom and grace.

A gracious woman seeks to do what is best for others. She is not trying to elevate herself by putting others down. Nor does she take advantage of other peoples’ misfortunes to make herself look or feel better. She practices discretion. Let’s ask the Lord today to help us be the kind of woman who lovingly treats others with the same grace He does.

Whoever covers an offense seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates close friends. ~ Proverbs 17:9

  1. I hope that your husband’s illness is short-lived! And I hope your movie will be great! Blessings to you both this year!

  2. I think we can all have those days/weeks, where we are just in a slump. Cold weather and/or gray skies does that to me. Sometimes a little reset helps. Praying your husband recovers soon.

  3. Kay, I hope James will feel much better soon and I hope you will also enjoy the matinee and start to feel much brighter. Congratulations on sticking to your reset and losing five pounds. Thank you for sharing what you did wear this week.

  4. I hope James is well soon and that you avoid contamination! I’ve often thought it must be difficult for a southern gal to adjust to the vagaries of Ohio weather. I love winter and am thoroughly enjoying all the whiteness. We even opted to shop at Jungle Jim’s this morning in the height of the snowfall. Possibly not a brilliant move considering that I’m 84 and my partner just turned 89. For us, these two weeks have been glorious. That said, I stayed in my pajamas one day this week. Enjoy your outing!

  5. Dear Kay, thank you for your confessional. I think I’ve been there this winter more times than I’d like to admit. God bless!

  6. Love those Ayr pants, Kay. Yep both my guy and I had bronchitis for most of December into January so yes, there were a lot of pajama-wearing days. Those coughing illnesses are hard to shake. My doc gave me drugs and I started to feel better but my guy then came down with COVID. We don’t live together so I delivered groceries, drugs and meals to his door. Always good when one of you is well in order to take care of the one who isn’t. Take care and hope you can continue to stay your healthy self.

  7. A little down time every now and then is just fine – we’re not machines and sometimes the thing we want most to do is nothing!

  8. Thank you for being so real. We all have weeks like this. I have to say I’m jealous of the snow you have. Today in Oregon it was close to 60 and sunny. Felt like a Spring day. I’ve been wishing for snow all Winter, but once it hits Feb and for sure March I’m ready for Spring and Spring dressing. I feel like I just transitioned my closet to Winter and here we are almost time to do Spring/Summer. I sure hope James gets to feeling better. He really had it. So far we’ve been well this Winter. Share your movie you went to and the review. I’ve never gone to a movie by myself, but I have a friend that does all the time. Glad you got out. Any plan helps boost my spirits.

  9. The Blessed for My Day is perfect for me today. It reminds me that grace is not only sought but given. I really love this. And I am so glad you took time for you. It’s necessary. May you both either get healthy or stay healthy.
