Recently I’ve noticed Dôen – a brand known for their soft, flowy and romantic style – experiencing a huge rise in popularity, specifically among women over 50. While it’s tempting to cling to the strictly classic styles that many of us grew up with and feel safe wearing, it can be fun to tiptoe into some of the emerging brands for a little variety and an updated look. I’d like to show you a few things I recently purchased from this California based brand, but along the way I’ll also share a few thoughts on what to buy from Dôen and how to wear it over 50.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.
The minute you open the Dôen website you feel transported to a more ethereal and romantic location. Their spring styles feature lightweight fabrics in voluminous quantities, resulting in puffy sleeves, billowing skirts and ruffled necklines. You’ll notice lace details, pintucks, sashes and tiny buttons. But there’s also a definite sexiness woven into many, but not all, of their feminine silhouettes.
For the woman who already embraces a very feminine, boho or romantic style aesthetic, Dôen is a dream come true. But for the woman over 50 with a more classic personal style, these fashions can seem a little syrupy sweet. That said, in 2026 feminine details and romantic touches are very in vogue. And it can be fun to add a few Dôen or Dôen-inspired pieces to your wardrobe for experimentation. Here are a few tips for what to buy from Dôen, especially if you don’t generally wear such ultra romantic styles.
Look for Inspiration
When I look at fashions in a style different from my everyday wear, I approach them with an eye for appreciation. I liken it to walking through an art gallery. These are not the paintings I have on my walls at home, but I can appreciate them all the more because they stretch me beyond what I am accustomed to.

When you check in with a new-to-you brand, visit with an open mind. Allow their pieces to speak to your senses. You don’t even have to consider {yet} whether or not you would wear them. Instead, just view them like art, creations of someone’s imagination and talent. There are many things on which I will not budge. Fashion is not one of them. I want my appreciation for fashion to grow, not diminish, expand, not grow stagnant.

You might want to check out the Dôen website and see their feminine fashions for yourself. Not every piece will be to your liking. But even those I wouldn’t or couldn’t wear open my eyes and my mind a little to the possibilities. Dôen is also sold at Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom, by the way.
WHY? When you see the prices on the Dôen website you may experience a little sticker shock. These are not inexpensive styles. But the value of perusing a brand such as Dôen is that it expands your fashion sensibilities. You’ll find styles similar to those at Dôen at much more economical prices. For instance, this Henri top is one of their most popular pieces, but you can get a very similar option at Madewell for a fraction of the price. I have the Madewell top, by the way. 😉

Freshen Up Your Style
If you are inspired by what you see at Dôen (or any other new-to-you brand you peruse), consider first how you can incorporate this aesthetic into your own. The idea is not to create a costume that changes your identity, but to freshen up your own personal style with a nuanced flourish.

When I decided to purchase the soft, sheer and billowy Jonie top along with the coordinating Lavona drawstring pants you’ll see below, I knew that I would also need to be able to mix those distinctly Dôen pieces with more conservative and traditional options. I didn’t have any classic white trousers, so I purchased the Lisa pants, shown above. These tailored wide leg trousers in 100% cotton twill reflect my personal style aesthetic beautifully, but they bring something new and fresh to my wardrobe for 2026.
WHY? If we don’t actively freshen up our personal style occasionally, we run the risk of looking dated and boring, even in our classic pieces. Remember, classic doesn’t mean “never goes out of style.” Even “classic” pieces will look like yesteryear if we don’t wear them in fresh ways or combine them with more current options.

Step Out In Something New
I have found that vacations are the perfect opportunity to really step out in something new. You’re going to a place where no one knows you or has preconceived ideas about how you should show up. The atmosphere – especially at a resort, on a cruise or in other very vacation-y locations – is already festive and lively. Why not try a new style, one that stretches you a little?

That’s why I went ahead and purchased these Lavona drawstring pants to wear as a matching set with the Jonie top. Honestly, I almost didn’t buy them. But I know the value of a set, especially in 2026 when they’re so on trend. And I knew that I could work them with other basics in my closet, too, in order to ease into this style aesthetic.

I probably wouldn’t wear these to a mall in Cincinnati. LOL. But for vacation or even entertaining at home, this matching combination feels fresh, current and fun.

WHY? When I’m packing for something like my trip to London (as I shared in this blog post), I stick with styles that are more familiar to me, suitable for the weather and activities, and travel-worthy for the trip itself. But if I’m spending a week on a ship or enjoying time at a resort, I like to experiment with those lesser explored sides of myself. These are times to feel and look a little more relaxed, festive, sexy even. Your clothes help set the mood and even tell your mind how to think, your body how to behave.
Stick to Your 3x3x3 Rule

So yes, style experimentation is good for us. It keeps us from getting stuck in a fashion rut, it helps our style sensibilities to evolve and opens us to more current aesthetics. But when push comes to shove, we still want to make good use of our wardrobe purchases.

That’s why I suggest that even as we experiment we still stick to our 3x3x3 rule. I shared more about it in this recent blog post, but here’s the gist of it. 3x3x3 = Never allow anything into your closet unless it works in three different outfits, for three different occasions and with three pairs of shoes in your closet. Like I said above, I may certainly have places and occasions where I won’t wear these new purchases from Dôen. But honestly, that’s the case for everything in my closet. I simply need to make sure that the separates I purchased are versatile enough that I can mix and match them in a few ways to give me the versatility and functionality that lowers price per wear over time.
WHY? Versatility is what makes a wardrobe functional. It prevents you from having a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear. And following the 3x3x3 rule also reduces cost per wear and multiplies the joy you get from your wardrobe. Adding new style aesthetics challenges the rule a bit, but it also stretches your creativity.

The Dôen style will not appeal to all of my readers, but it struck a chord with me. The price point may also be prohibitive for some, but you can find similar styles at so many other brands. It’s just good to know where the wave began. That said, I always try to provide value in my blog posts beyond just links to shop. So I hope these ideas have helped you to think about new ways to explore emerging brands like Dôen. Thanks so much for stopping in. I’ve created a shopping widget below with the items I’ve shown above.

FIT INFO: I found my Dôen pieces to fit true to size. I ordered per the size charts and everything fit just right. I got a size Large in the Lavona pants and the Jonie top (they consider a size 10 a Large) and my usual size 10 in the Lisa pant.

Blessed for My Day
Let’s not move on from Easter too quickly. After all, shouldn’t we savor Resurrection day just as long if not longer than we do Christmas? The resurrection of our Lord from the grave has so many implications for our everyday lives. If nothing else we should be amazed and inspired by the power of God that rose Jesus from the grave. That same power is available to us as His children.
But if we have identified with Christ by accepting His gift of salvation by grace through faith, we also have been crucified with Him. That means we also have been “resurrected” to a new life. Now the life we live is no longer ours, but His. And we live it through His power, by faith in Him and compelled by His love. We are on mission to share that good news with others and we have a testimony that compels.
I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. ~ Galatians 2:20
Yes the Doen clothes are beautiful however the sticker shock is still rippling thru my body for just a t-shirt. But they are very very beautiful!
I guess I don’t understand how high priced these new companies have gotten. I’d be afraid to wear it for fear of getting it stained or ruined in the wash. I just can’t see ever paying this much for clothes, but you are right….. we can get ideas then shop elsewhere to find similar. I agree about stepping out of our comfort zone and trying something new sometimes and yes it’s much easier when going on vacation. I like the matching set you purchased. Cute on you.
These prices definitely raise an eyebrow but the clothes offer ideas and inspiration for other brands that are less expensive. It’s great to widen our horizons and not stay in a rut. The outfits really look good on you and I think the blue top and white trousers, in particular, are fantastic Thank you for showing us what is available.
This is very much my style, but I will have to use the Dôen website for inspiration and shop elsewhere for similar looks! Thank you for this post!
I echo the sentiments about sticker shock with this new brand and having to use their website only for inspiration. However their blouse looks lovely in the outfit with the tan pants. 🙂
