What I Wore for a Week of Wedding Planning

Happy Monday! I know I usually post these How I Really Dressed for My Day posts on Fridays, but the outfits are mounding up, so I thought I better go ahead and share my recent looks. These are the outfits I’ve worn while in Georgia for Abby’s two bridal showers and several days of taking care of wedding details.

My Daily Outfits Wedding Planning Week

The weather has been all over the place during my 12 days in Georgia, and I knew that would be the case. So I tried to pack versatile separates that could be mixed and matched and layered. You’ll see a good bit of repetition, but keep in mind that I’m living out of a suitcase during this time. (Well, I did in fact unpack. Ha! But you know what I mean.)

Sizing Information

Just for reference, I’m 5’8″ and weigh about 155. I generally wear a size 8 or medium in dresses, tops, jackets and pants (or 29 or 30 in jeans), so that’s what I’m wearing in these looks unless I tell you otherwise. That way you can assume everything I show you is true to size unless I alert you to sizing up or down. I wear a size 9.5 shoe and, again, I’ll just let you know if I sized up or down in a shoe, otherwise it’s true to size.

What I Wore to Travel by Plane to Georgia

I flew to Georgia via Orlando, Florida, with a long layover due to a storm front that just wouldn’t budge. So it was a very long travel day beginning at 4:45 a.m. and ending after ten. I never once regretted the outfit I’d chosen for the day, however. It got me from very cold Cincinnati to slightly balmy Atlanta in comfort and ease.

I wore my Frame Le Sylvie Crop Straight Raw Hem jeans (more economical option) with this navy and white striped v-neck tee. I topped the simple jeans outfit with my Veronica Beard Miller dickey blazer and finished it off with my New Balance x J.Crew sneakers. My jeans were Nordstrom Anniversary Sale finds and are no longer available, but these are them in gray and these are similar. Kut from the Kloth jeans are very reasonably priced for the quality.

Frame Jeans and Miller Blazer
Frame Le Sylvie Crop Straight Raw Hem jeans (more economical option) // Veronica Beard Miller dickey blazer // hoodie dickey // striped v-neck tee // New Balance x J.Crew sneakers // earrings // necklace (mine is yellow gold) // rolling laptop case

The only jacket or coat I brought on my trip was my Veronica Beard Miller dickey blazer and it has proven to be a good choice. I wore this hoodie dickey attached to it on travel day and brought along this denim jacket dickey, too. Veronica Beard blazers are indeed pricey, but the quality is impeccable and I only choose those that are classic enough to stay in my closet for years.

What I Wore Friday

Friday was a fairly mild day temperature-wise. I got out to purchase hostess gifts for Abigail’s shower hostesses and to get a few other things I needed for the week. I wore my Frame Le Sylvie Crop Straight Raw Hem jeans (more economical option) and my Nic+Zoe Essential Shirt. This 58% cotton/39% modal/3% spandex shirt looks like a crisp white button up, but is in fact a soft t-shirt fabric button up with a crisp collar and cuffs.

What I Wore Friday
Frame Le Sylvie Crop Straight Raw Hem jeans (more economical option) // Miller blazer // Nic+Zoe Essential Shirt // Sam Edelman loafers (similar Zeldi loafers more in stock) // shoulder bag in same light taupe leather // earrings // necklace (mine is yellow gold)

I topped the look with my Miller blazer and wore my Sam Edelman loafers. You’ll notice that all of the shoes I brought are neutrals that mix and match with everything nicely. These loafers are no longer available in this soft beige, but these Zeldi loafers are similar and they’re a great shoe, too. Also I opted on this trip to bring my leather tote from Everlane in this similar soft taupe. I liked traveling with my cognac faux leather bag on vacation, but knew I would want a more elevated bag for the showers I would be attending this week. Plus I wanted something that would work really nicely with my softer colored shoe choices. This tote is no longer available, but this shoulder bag is the same light taupe color and same leather. I love Everlane’s leather bags.

What I Wore to Abby’s First Bridal Shower

Saturday morning we awakened to below freezing temperatures and snow flurries. I was so worried that few women would venture out in the bad weather to attend Abigail’s shower. But I was blessedly wrong. We had so many of the women of our family, Abby’s friends, my friends, my mom’s friends and friends of Abigail’s future mother-in-law to attend. It was an absolutely glorious morning shared among the sweetest women in the lovely home of my dear friend, Michelle.

Bridal shower attire
Kay’s outfit: Miller dickey jacket // Renzo pants (sized up to 10) // Ally tender taupe patent leather kitten heels (use code KAYHEELS for $40 off your first pair of Ally heels, KAYFLATS for 10% off your first pair of flats) // striped mock neck shell // station necklace // bangle // earrings Abigail’s outfit: Skylar Midi Dress (wearing x-small) // similar sandals // necklace (use code KAYHARMS for 10% off) // watch from Nordgreen (use code KAYHRMS for 15% off)

Since it was so cold and messy, I opted not to wear the dress I’d taken and instead wore my navy suit, comprised of my Miller dickey jacket and the matching Veronica Beard Renzo pants (sized up to 10). Underneath I wore a striped mock neck shell. This was the first time I wore my new (gifted) Ally tender taupe patent leather kitten heels, and they felt so comfortable for the three hours I was on my feet. (Use code KAYHEELS for $40 off heels at Ally and KAYFLATS for 10% off flats.) And didn’t Abby look pretty in her bridal white Skylar Midi Dress?

What I Wore for Abby’s Makeup Trial Run

Sunday morning I met Abigail at her church just to hear her read the Scripture for the congregation and then we had to leave to get to her makeup appointment. She had already been to the earlier service, but I just couldn’t get myself out of bed on this “spring forward” time change morning. We got a quick lunch and then went to the home of her makeup artist where she did Abigail’s makeup the way she’ll do it for the wedding.

Sweater with Blazer
Kut from the Kloth Elizabeth jeans (more economical option) // striped collared v-neck sweater // Miller dickey jacket // Sam Edelman loafers (similar Zeldi loafers more in stock) // shoulder bag in same light taupe leather // earrings

On this chilly morning that promised to warm up into the 50s, I wore my Kut from the Kloth Elizabeth jeans (more economical option) and my camel and cream striped collared v-neck sweater. It is so soft and lightweight, perfect for chilly spring days, but I imagine I’ll wear it next fall, too. I topped the outfit with my Miller dickey jacket and kept the look soft with the addition of some pearl jewelry, none of which is available unfortunately.

What I Wore to Pick Up Abby’s Wedding Dress

Monday I got in a try-on session at Talbots and then Loft in the morning and then picked up Abigail to go pick up her wedding gown. It was even more gorgeous than we had remembered, of course. We stopped for coffee, but other than that we just fought the traffic to get back to our respective homes. It was an exhausting day really, but still a good one.

White tee and vest
Kut from the Kloth Elizabeth jeans (more economical option) // t-shirt // similar vest // scarf // Sam Edelman loafers (similar Zeldi loafers more in stock) // watch from Nordgreen (use code KAYHRMS for 15% off) // earrings

I started the day off in my Kut from the Kloth Elizabeth jeans (more economical option) and white v-neck t-shirt with my creamy beige button up vest (similar vest)and topped the outfit with this scarf. But after stopping at Talbots I switched out the vest for the punch pink Shaker Stitch Bishop Sleeve Cardigan I’d purchased there. I was beginning to tire a little of my neutrals and loved the pop of color this cotton sweater added. Unfortunately I didn’t get a photo, but it looked really nice with the tee, scarf and pink sweater.

What I Wore to Lunch and for the Venue Walk Through

Tuesday I had lunch with my mom and Aunt Ida at Chicken Salad Chick, one of our favorite little places. Don’t you love it? I decided to pull out a little color for this rainy day. After lunch I met up with Abigail and her fiance to go over to the wedding venue for a walk through with the venue coordinator and Abigail’s florist. I felt so much better about all things wedding after that walk through. Whew!

Red Shirt and Jeans
Frame Le Sylvie Crop Straight Raw Hem jeans (more economical option) // cotton blend drama sleeve top (also available in black and white) // cognac brown belt // Sam Edelman loafers (similar Zeldi loafers more in stock) // gold rings necklace // watch from Nordgreen (use code KAYHRMS for 15% off) // earrings // Abbie bangle

So I topped my Frame Le Sylvie Crop Straight Raw Hem jeans (more economical option) with this red cotton blend drama sleeve top (also available in black and white). This is such a comfortable easy to wear top. I finished the simple look with my cognac brown belt and Sam Edelman loafers (similar Zeldi loafers more in stock). And I added my gold rings necklace. I love, love, love this slightly sparkly lightweight statement necklace. It definitely makes a statement, but it also is classic enough to wear for years.

How I Dressed for Breakfast Out and Work

Wednesday I went to breakfast with my brother and then worked at the house. I think this was the one and only day I did not do anything wedding related. Hahaha! So I put on my Nic+Zoe Scattered Blooms Sweater with Frame Le Sylvie Crop Straight Raw Hem jeans (more economical option) for breakfast.

What I Wore Wednesday
Frame Le Sylvie Crop Straight Raw Hem jeans (more economical option) // Nic+Zoe Scattered Blooms Sweater // Sam Edelman loafers (similar Zeldi loafers more in stock) // necklace no longer available // watch from Nordgreen (use code KAYHRMS for 15% off) // earrings // Abbie bangle

Then after breakfast I changed into my joggers and this oh so comfy bateau neck tee. It was still rainy and I was just ready to be comfortable and stay home.

Joggers and Bateau Neck Top
joggers // bateau neck tee // sneakers // small split hoop earrings

What I Wore Dress Shopping with Mom

Thursday Mom and Dad and I went to shop for Mom a dress for the wedding. Well, Mom and I shopped. We did indeed find here a lovely dress for the big day. And we purchased her some shoes, too. Then the three of us stopped at a favorite restaurant for lunch.

What I Wore Dress Shopping with Mom
Kut from the Kloth Elizabeth jeans (more economical option) // Nic+Zoe Essential Shirt // Sam Edelman loafers (similar Zeldi loafers more in stock) // shoulder bag in same light taupe leather // earrings // necklace no longer available // watch from Nordgreen (use code KAYHRMS for 15% off) // Abbie bangle

I chose to wear my Kut from the Kloth Elizabeth jeans (more economical option) with my Nic+Zoe Essential Shirt and my creamy beige button up vest (no longer available). I completed the neutrals outfit with my beige Sam Edelman loafers and my leather tote. By the way, after looking at all these photos of me in my jeans I feel like I need to assure you that we did do laundry this week. Ha!

What I Wore to Breakfast and to Get a Mani Pedi

Friday was a very rainy day. Mom and Dad and I enjoyed breakfast out and then I left for an early mani pedi before the nail salon got crowded. Alas, the nail salon never did get crowded because the weather turned so bad while I was in there. After my nail appointment I worked, ran an errand and then enjoyed dinner at the home of Andrew’s parents.

How I Dressed Friday
sneakers // Kut from the Kloth Elizabeth jeans (more economical option) // striped collared v-neck sweater // shoulder bag in same light taupe leather // earrings

I had been instrucked to come very casual, so I did. I wore my jeans (more economical option) and striped collared v-neck sweater. I actually only wore the sneakers to breakfast, changing into my loafers before going to the nail salon and then later for dinner as well.

What I Wore to the 2nd Bridal Shower

Saturday we arose to a beautiful sunny day. It was truly glorious weather. A lovely number of Abigail’s friends and mentors from her church attended her second bridal shower that day. We had another lovely time celebrating.

Mom, Abby and Me at the Bridal Shower
My outfit: Lavinia Jersey Wrap Dress in green emerald (also in other colors and prints) // Ally Tender Taupe Patent Leather Kitten Heels (use code KAYHEELS for $40 off your first pair of heels or KAYFLATS for 10% off your first pair of flats at Ally) // split hoop earrings // gold filigree bangle // gold rings necklace // watch from Nordgreen (use code KAYHRMS for 15% off) //  slip // pantyhose (wearing A01) (control top option) Abigail’s Outfit: heels (available in other colors) // dress from Antrhopologie but evidently sold out Mom’s Outfit: all from Talbots (no longer available) // SAS Shoes

It was finally pretty and warm enough so that I could wear my green Lavinia Jersey Wrap Dress that I shared in this previous post. I wore it almost exactly the same way; I just swapped in my new Ally Tender Taupe Patent Leather Kitten Heels for the Bossy Beige Pumps (use code KAYHEELS for $40 off your first pair of heels or KAYFLATS for 10% off your first pair of flats at Ally). I was on my feet for over two hours and never even remembered I had shoes on. They are so amazingly comfortable, and they’ll go with everything.

And didn’t Abby and my mom look beautiful, too? Abby’s dress is absolutely darling. It has a bare back, but she wore this bra with it. Ingenious! She purchased her dress from Antrhopologie just recently but we can’t find it online, so evidently it’s sold out. But they have a wide selection of white dresses that are beautifully suited for brides.

What I Wore to Walk to the Shopping Center
joggers // v-neck tee // sneakers // small split hoop earrings

When we returned home from the shower I changed into my joggers, v-neck tee and sneakers. I walked about a mile to a nearby shopping center and browsed

What I Wore Sunday

Sunday afternoon Abigail and I completed our last little wedding planning event. We took her wedding gown to a seamstress for an alterations fitting. Later we stopped at a restaurant for a celebrative dinner. We’d made so much progress on the wedding!

Pleated Skirt
Pleated Skirt // v-neck tee // similar vest // Edison flats // split hoop earrings // bracelet and necklace no longer available // watch from Nordgreen (use code KAYHRMS for 15% off) // shoulder bag in same light taupe leather

Since it was the first official day of spring I decided to wear my pleated skirt. I was a little limited in what I could wear with it since I was still “living out of a suitcase,” so I topped it with my white v-neck tee and button up vest. I completed the look with my Edison flats. These shoes are actually dark navy and ivory, while the skirt is predominantly black and camel. But the skirt print does have blue dots in it and the navy on the shoes is so dark that I just went with it. Ha!

And that brings us to today. I don’t know what I’m wearing yet, but I’m meeting with my dear friend Michelle to talk wedding some more. She has kindly carved out the entire weekend of the event to help me. Such a blessing!

Thanks so much for dropping in. Let me know if you have any questions about anything I’ve shared here. Remember, items run true to size unless I’ve indicated otherwise. Have a great SPRING day!

I have a little springtime challenge for you today. During the spring we may have the opportunity to baby animals. Whether you spot baby birds chirping from their nest or little lambs skipping in the fields, it’s always fun to watch God’s tiniest creatures as they learn to make their way in the world. I love watching little calves trot alongside their mamas or baby colts wobble in the pasture. And if I’m lucky I’ll get to see a fawn, too.

Baby animals hungrily look to their mamas for food. Whether the baby robins are chirping loudly for worms from their mama’s mouth or little calves are snuggling up under their mamas for milk, they eat greedily and with satisfaction. When we spot a baby animal this spring let’s remember to go to God’s Word with that same hunger and eagerness. Like those newborn animals, let’s crave the pure spiritual milk of the Bible.

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. ~ 1 Peter 2:2-3

Spread the love
xoxo, Kay

  1. We are wedding planning at our home, too, as we prepare for our daughter’s September wedding. I would love a post on how you found your dress for the wedding ( my apologies if I missed it). I am having a heck of a time seeing anything I like! I didn’t have this problem when our son got married a few years ago.I’ve looked at all of the usual spots…Saks, Neimann, Nordstrom, Dillard’s etc but no luck! I’m hoping new dresses will start showing up as the weather warms. You, your mom, and Abigail looked lovely!

    1. Me too! My son is getting married in November, Austin TX. Would love ideas! Also, love the red Chico’s top on you!

    2. Hello Liz,
I recently enjoyed the wedding planning process for our oldest son and his beautiful bride. I found my dress at a small, local bridal shop. The service and alterations were all wonderful. I would recommend this route if you have a similar shop nearby. I wish you many blessings during the process. – Donna

  2. Hi Kay , thank you for sharing .You all look so beautiful , your daughter Abigail is so naturally stunning ! What an exciting time , I was hoping you showed your mom since you speak of her , she looked great and was styling too. Can’t wait for the wedding pics , love all your posts , keep them coming ?

  3. Whew! You all have had a busy productive time. Love the picture of you, your mother, and Abigail. You all look beautiful.
I like the BFMD. So true. Have a great trip back to Cincinnati tomorrow. I know James will be happy to see you.

  4. You, Abigail, and your mom look so nice! I am tired just from reading about everything that you and Abigail have accomplished for the wedding. I know that you will return home with relief since so many things were taken care of. Yes, the GA weather has been all over the place, hasn’t it! And now we are under the gun for pretty severe weather tomorrow night into Wed. What a welcome to spring for so many states. I hope and pray that your flight home will be very smooth without any layovers. I suspect that James will be so very happy to see you and have you back home. I hope that he doesn’t feel left out in regards to the wedding planning. Enjoy our beautiful spring weather today, after it warms up!

  5. Kay, So grateful for your memorable week. I have a question about sizing and your Veronica Beard jacket. I am also a size 8 and 5’ 8 1/2”. Would you recommend a size 8 or 10? I like a tailored fit but not too snug in a jacket. Thank you.

    1. Hi Chris. Sorry for the late reply. I really like my size 8s in all of my Veronica Beard jackets. So if that’s your usual size I’d definitely stick with that. I sometimes size up to a 10 I’m other jackets but I’ve found theirs to run true to my usual dress and top size.

  6. Kay – I thought you all looked wonderful, but I have one confession. I thought the loafers you picked looked very “old lady”. Not would I would have chosen.
    Thoroughly enjoy you fashion news!

  7. Hi, Kay. Glad you had such a productive time in Georgia. I had never seen a photo of your mother before–she is lovely and so stylish. Abigail will make such a beautiful bride. Three generations of loveliness. Thank you for sharing this happy time in your lives.

  8. I’m exhausted just reading this! You really had a full week. You look beautiful in every picture, but when you are with your daughter, you just glow. And your mom is a doll. I’m a bit older than you, and I feel so blessed that I still have my mom; most of my peers have lost their moms. Anyway, I am a fairly new follower and I truly enjoy every post. The only problem is I’m tempted to buy EVERYTHING. Now that I’m becoming familiar with some of these high end brands, such as Ally shoes and Veronica Beard (blazers), it’s getting dangerous.

  9. Everyone is beautiful, but Mom is my hero. She’s proof that being “mature” means you can be super fashionable and current.

  10. Hi Kay,
When you wear loafers, do you typically wear no-show socks or barefoot in them? Have my first pair of loafers and wore knee-hi hose today with them.
    Thank you,
    Beth

    1. I generally go barefoot with them. But I think my Zella no show socks would work nicely too. I linked to those in the post.

  11. Yesterday escaped me so this is super late but the pic of you, Abigail and your mom is beyond lovely! Your mom is such a pretty lady too I see where you and Abigail get your striking good looks. And, you rocked every look, Kay, from the top of your head to the tip of your toes! Nice!

  12. I apologize for being late to the party, but I hope you won’t mind if I ask a question. My question pertains to the Lavinia Jersey Wrap Dress. Is it tight in the sleeves? They appear to hug your arms. I am not really overweight, but my arms, yuk, they have not aged well. I love the dress and the color though.

    1. Hi Deborah. I frequently have trouble with sleeves too. But this one has a lot of stretch. It doesn’t hug my arms, just fits really nicely with a lot of stretch.

  13. Loved all your posts this week, but I especially love this one.
You shared pictures of the wedding showers and you all look beautiful
especially Abigail. Love all the outfits you picked for your errands.
Such great outfit choices. Glad you’re back safely.

  14. Hmm. That’s just not the case. The cover photo is of Abigail and me at her shower. And that photo is indeed included in the blog.
