New Year, New Fragrance!

December 19, 2022

Maybe it’s because my wedding anniversary is January 2, and I frequently receive them as gifts, but I often enjoy starting the new year with a new bottle of perfume. Soon that fresh scent becomes my signature fragrance for that year. And sometimes when I smell that distinctive fragrance again…sometimes years later…it evokes memories of that particular year in my life. Well the new year is fast approaching, so today I thought I’d share some of my personal favorites and some trending fragrances that I found at Sephora at Kohl’s.

New Year, New Fragrance

I love that we can now shop our favorite scents at Sephora in our local Kohl’s store. But did you know you can also shop Sephora at Kohl’s online? And frequently you can find that what you’re shopping for online is indeed available in your local store, so you can opt for store pickup in checkout. I just find it so much simpler to shop for what I’m looking for online and then pick it up at the store with no hassle.

Evidently Sephora at Kohl’s likes my idea of starting the new year with a new fragrance because they’re having a fragrance event now through December 24. Beauty Insiders receive a personalized one-time-use code via email and/or through your Kohl’s Wallet for 20% off select full-size fragrances of 1.0 oz or larger in Sephora at Kohl’s. Not a Beauty Insider? Just sign up here! You’ll get double the earnings and double the perks when you shop Sephora at Kohl’s for their wide selection of name brand beauty products.

Once you find your personalized code for shopping The Fragrance for All Event, let’s start shopping! Below I’ve gathered some of my favorite fragrances for men and women, as well as one non gender-specific scent.

Fragrances for Women

I personally love fragrances that are mild, warm, a little spicy and a bit understated. I also know that I like scents with a bit of citrus and other earthy tones. One of my all-time favorite scents is Lancome’s La Vie Est Belle. You know, this is the fragrance you’ve probably come to identify with Julia Robert’s iconic smile! La Vie Est Belle is warm and energizing with sweet notes of orange blossom, warm vanilla, and spun sugar. I actually have this bottle of perfume on my dresser right now and reach for it frequently. My family would probably say this smells “like mom,” and I get compliments every time I wear it, surprisingly even from young men and women.

Women's Fragrances from Sephora at Kohl's
Lancome’s La Vie Est Belle // Chloe Eau de Parfum by Chloe // Lancome’s Idole Eau de Parfum

Chloe Eau de Parfum captures the creative, confident individuality of the Chloe woman. It is a fresh and feminine fragrance suited to a free spirit with an utterly innate sense of chic. I took a sniff of this vibrant perfume recently and I thought it smelled so sophisticated, but not at all stuffy or old.

Lancome’s Idole Eau de Parfum is touted as sophisticated and unapologetically modern. It has notes of citrus, rose, jasmine, and white musk and is layered over a vanilla perfume base.

Women's Fragrances from Sephora at Kohl's
Gucci Bloom Profumo di Fiori Eau de Parfum // Marc Jacob’s Daisy // Beautiful Belle Eau de Parfum

My daughter wore Marc Jacob’s Daisy for several years. This youthful scent is indeed feminine and a bit whimsical. But trust me, just because my young daughter wore doesn’t mean I wouldn’t, too. This is a truly “pretty” scent that feels optimistic, pure and lovely.

Tuberose is the hero of the classic floral fragrance of Gucci Bloom Profumo di Fiori Eau de Parfum. This scent evokes a sense of mystery and an aura hushed sophistication. Quite elegant!

Finally, what would a women’s scent list be without an entry from Estee Lauder? Women have enjoyed this perfume house’s evocative fragrances for generations. But the Beautiful Belle Eau de Parfum is a fresh take on an older classic. With hints of Gardenia, Orange Flower, Musk and Mimosa, this somewhat familiar scent has taken on new oriental undertones.

a Unisex Scent

Since all perfumes meld with our own body chemistry to produce unique scents, it’s become quite common and popular to wear fragrances that are suitable for either gender. The end result is a scent that is pleasing to all but unique to the one who wears it.

Unisex Scent
‘Replica’ by the Fireplace by Maison Margiela

Maison Margiela’s Replica line is filled with fragrances that are said to evoke the scents hidden deep in our memories. Of ‘Replica’ by the Fireplace, it is said, “This warm scent combines orange flower, clove oil, and chestnut atop a comforting vanilla fragrance to re-create the signature warmth and coziness of a crackling fire.” You can definitely see how that would appeal to both men and women and could be suitably worn by either. And both the bottle (designed to look like an apothecary bottle) and the box it comes in are beautiful and intriguing, too. Check out other Replica fragrances here.

Men’s Fragrances at Sephora at Kohl’s

Speaking of the other gender, maybe it’s a good time for your man to have a new scent, too. I love it when James wears a little bit of scent. Uomo Born in Roma is a modern aromatic vetiver fragrance. The smoky grass scents are accompanied by violet and ginger for an unmistakable edge of mineral salt and spicy ginger.

Men's Fragrances at Sephora at Kohl's
Valentino Uomo Born in Roma // Y Eau de Parfum by Yves Saint Laurent

With a trio of bergamot, ginger, and apple at its core, sage and a big dose of amber give Y Eau de Parfum by Yves Saint Laurent a warm, woody feel. This bold scent has great lasting power.

Below Aqua di Gio by Giorgio Armani is a modern classic that men have enjoyed wearing since 1996. Musk, bergamot, neroli, rosemary, and patchouli combine to produce an earthy, light scent that is especially suited to men who cannot tolerate heavier, less subtle fragrances.

Fragrances for Men from Sephora at Kohl's
Aqua di Gio by Giorgio Armani // Beau de Jour by Tom Ford

Beau de Jour evokes images of the perfectly groomed gentleman. Cool, commanding lavender mingles with a deeper, sublime fern-like intensity beneath the surface. Think freshly bathed, cleanly shaven, immaculately dressed and in charge.

By the way, it’s easier to shop for the perfect fragrance online that you might imagine. Simply read the products details, looking for ingredients as well as picturesque imagery describing the scent.

Don’t forget to check your email and/or Kohl’s Wallet for your unique Beauty Insider code for 20% off select full-price fragrances of 1,0 ounce or more. You can use the code for one transaction between now and the end of day December 24, 2022. And if you’re not an Insider, just sign up! It’s free and easy.

Blessed for My Day

Our God is a promise-keeping God. He has initiated a covenant with us through the shed blood of His Son, Jesus Christ. We are His, and He is our God. He has promised us to be with us, never forsake us, love us, provide for us and always protect us. Jesus promised us the Holy Spirit, and we have received Him as part of our salvation. We do not walk alone. Jesus also promised to go and prepare a place for us and someday return for us.

We can know that God will keep each of these and other promises because He kept His promise to send a Redeemer. He has not left us in bondage to this world or the prince of this world, but has redeemed us through His Son Jesus, the Messiah whose birth we celebrate at this time of year. As you continue your Christmas celebration remember that God has kept His promises to you, and He will continue to do so. You can trust Him with today, tomorrow and eternity.

“Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel,
because he has come to his people and redeemed them.
He has raised up a horn of salvation for us
in the house of his servant David
(as he said through his holy prophets of long ago),
salvation from our enemies
and from the hand of all who hate us—
to show mercy to our ancestors
and to remember his holy covenant,
the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
to rescue us from the hand of our enemies,
and to enable us to serve him without fear
in holiness and righteousness before him all our days. ~ Luke 1:68-75

  1. This is a good post that I never thought about. My mother-in-law always wore jasmine and I love rose. Somehow I was taught that a woman should have one signature fragrance.

  2. I look forward to reading this blog each day and am saddened that so much content is now going on YouTube. Maybe it’s just my age, but I always prefer reading to watching the videos.

    1. Hi Ann. I’m a little confused by your comment because I’ve not changed anything here. I’m still posting here every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Only last Friday did I have a video rather than a blog post. That’s the only time I’ve ever done that and I haven’t announced any intention to do that again. It was a one time thing due to a sponsorship schedule. But nothing has changed here.

  3. Shopping for a new fragrance is surely a simple pleasure and a simple gift to ourselves; it’s self-care. May I offer a gentle suggestion? When I’m looking for a new fragrance, I look at their descriptions on the company website (floral, spicy, citrus, etc.) to narrow down the choices. I go shopping wearing no fragrance at all. I test no more than two at a time. One small dab on each wrist, then I walk away and let the fragrances work their magic. Over the day, I check to see if I like (really like, or love!) each or either scent. And then I write it down, because I can’t trust my memory to remember them all!! I repeat this over a couple of weeks or so, and usually I’ve figured out which one or two I’m going to purchase. Time spent is time saved. And we must ALWAYS remember to apply any scented product with a light hand. Many workplaces and venues have no-scent policies.

  4. Kay, there is so much that I love about your channel and you have written so many positive and inspirational posts. I understand that sponsorships are important and also add value to our experience of your channel. I just sometimes feel with sponsored posts like this one that I am reading a sales catalogue. I wish there was a more creative way for you to insert more of yourself and your experience into these sponsored posts. Perhaps focus on fewer products that you have personal experience of while encouraging people to explore further on their own with some criteria you recommend. I’m just starting to skip over these posts because there is more Kohls and less Kay which is what draws me to your channel
In the first place. Having said that, thank you for your hard work this year and wishing you every success in 2023. May you have a healthy and joyful blessed Christmas.
