How I Really Dressed for My Day This Week

Happy Friday! It’s time to share how I really dressed for my day this week. I talk a lot lately about building a wardrobe for your real lifestyle. I can’t tell you how much more fun it is to get dressed each day when your closet truly reflects the life you live.

How This Works

These are my real life outfits from my own closet. Many of these things are available, but some may not be. When I can locate one quickly I’ll share substitutes and/or more economical options. But if I don’t provide one and you’d like for me to, just ask. All available items are linked in the captions of the photos. Even if they don’t look like links (sometimes they don’t highlight for some reason), they generally are. So just click through if you’re interested.

Friday

Ahh, last Friday! I wish I could tell you exactly what I did that day, but I have no idea. Ha! It looks like this was probably a work from home day though. I had gotten in all the tops I shared in yesterday’s blog post and was probably taking this one for a test run that day.

top (color option is unavailable) // denim shorts // sandals // necklace // earrings

These denim shorts are super comfortable, but the pretty top makes the combination feel a little more elevated than your average tee. I’ve started wearing these Clarks Collection leather slide sandals a lot because they work nicely for my foot condition (metatarsalgia). Plus, they’re really soft on the foot and fairly easy on the eyes…for a comfort sandal.

Saturday

Saturday we shot Wednesday’s YouTube video and this is the outfit I ended up in after modeling the other six or seven. I did the talking part of the video in this, which is what we always film last.

blue & white stripe shirt // linen pants // sandals // market tote // belt // necklace // earrings // bracelet

So yeah, I didn’t really go anywhere. But that’s the photo we took during our shoot as I modeled, thus, the market tote. I love the combination of cognac accessories with a blue and white outfit.

Sunday

James got sick this past week, so we ended up not being able to go to church on Sunday. But, after taking some time for an extended quiet time in the morning, I had to edit the video to turn in to the sponsor. So I decided to go ahead and put on a pretty dress for the day.

linen dress // sandals // necklace // earring

This linen dress from Eileen Fisher has definitely earned its place in my wardrobe. It’s so comfortable, but feels pretty and feminine, too. It runs large, like all Eileen Fisher. I’m wearing a small.

Monday

Here’s another outfit from Wednesday’s YouTube video, but this photo was actually taken on Monday when I wore the outfit “in real life.” By the way, I love how my hair turned out on this day. Just saying. I really prefer it with less curl and more just bouncy wave like this. But it’s always a mystery to see how it’s going to behave. Hahaha!

sleeveless top (c/o) // black linen pants (c/o) // saddle bag (c/o – use code KAY10 for 10% off at Patricia Nash) // similar sandals // belt // Arabella diamond chain necklace (C/O – use code KAY20 for 20% off at Penelope) // Maya hoop earrings (C/O – use code KAY20)// bracelet (C/O)

I did get out and run a few errands on this day. My black and white outfit felt really smart pulled together with these cognac accessories, which are slightly different from the ones shown in the video. Here I pulled out my Naturalizer sandals (similar sandals) and Patricia Nash saddle bag (c/o – use code KAY10 for 10% off at Patricia Nash).

Tuesday

Tuesday we got up early to beat the heat and shot the photos for yesterday’s blog post on different tops to wear with denim shorts. It’s funny, I told James we needed to find really casual places to shoot these photos because I don’t normally wear my denim shorts out and about. Thus we started out in a children’s playground, as though I were a grandmother there with my grandkids.

top // denim shorts // sandals // coin necklace // earrings // bracelet // Arabella diamond chain necklace (C/O – use code KAY20 for 20% off at Penelope)

But as the morning went on and we ended up taking photos around one of our favorite small towns, I felt more and more comfortable in them. We went out for coffee afterwards and I sat in the coffee shop and thought, “Maybe I don’t mind wearing my denim shorts out and about after all. Ha!” What about you? Do you wear denim shorts? At home and camping or out and about?

Wednesday

Wednesday I reached deeper into my closet and pulled out a favorite outfit from last year. So these items are no longer available, but I still love them so much. In fact, this is where my love for all things purple really began.

sweater tank (no longer available) similar option and another // skirt (no longer available) // sandals // coin necklace // earrings

Honestly, I don’t get to wear a lot of things that are no longer available because of my job here. I want to be able to share items that are still available as much as possible. Otherwise, it gets a little frustrating for my readers and Instagram followers. But I do keep beauties like these to sprinkle in to my daily life occasionally.

Thursday

Wednesday I had received an order from J.Jill with these fun strawberry jam red linen shorts. And I couldn’t wait a minute to wear them! I ordered the mediums because, since I carry my weight in my hips, sometimes I need that in J.Jill even though they tend to run large on me.

tee (c/o) // red linen shorts (wearing a medium) // belt // sandals // necklace (c/o) // earring (c/o) // bracelet (c/o)

I actually shot a reel yesterday for Instagram and my LTK Shop with six ways to wear these strawberry jam red linen shorts. I LOVE them. And they come in a full range of sizes, including petites. The linen shorts are also available in black, but they’re almost sold out. And the red is so fun anyhow! Yesterday I just wore them with the white tee (c/o), but the other options I put together in this LTK post are so much more creative and striking.

That’s a wrap! Thanks for stopping in to see my real life outfits for the week. Have a lovely day!

Blessed for My Day

We can trust that God wants what is best for our friends and family. So as we pray for their relief from pain, their victory over battles and their success in life, we may sometimes notice that God prioritizes things differently. He may not always answer our earnest prayers in the way we had hoped. But we can trust that the God who works all things together for our good is doing something even better than we had imagined.

Keep praying, but know that God’s answers are often higher than your base level requests. He may not supply the quick fix or instant healing or green light. Instead He often takes our loved ones on a detour that results in even greater blessings and deeper treasures.

The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not willing for any to perish, but for all to come to repentance. ~ 2 Peter 3:9

  1. I don’t currently own a pair of denim shorts that I would wear anywhere other than the garden, but would consider wearing a nicer pair of denim shorts out and about. My lifestyle is pretty casual and low key.
I love the red linen shorts! After a few years of not buying nicer casual clothes, I’ve entered into a relationship with linen, which I’m thoroughly enjoying! Linen checks a lot of boxes for me.

  2. I have tried many times to wear blue denim shorts – different styles, brands, and price points. I have tried to style them in different ways. In the end, I always feel like I look sloppy and farmer-esque. I love them on other people which is why I keep trying. I keep going back to white and black denim which just seems to look better on me. I also have the same issue with denim jackets. Oh well. Also, I don’t mind seeing outfits that are no longer available. It’s still inspiration and you look lovely in lavender.

    1. I have some things like that too that I keep trying to wear and then never seem to be able to feel/look like me in them. So I completely get it. IF you enjoy black and white denim, that’s perfect! Thanks so much for sharing.

  3. You always looks so put together and stylish, except……..when you wear your shirts with one side tucked in and the other aide out. Can’t wait until that fad has sailed. Makes for a sloppy look to me.

    1. You don’t have to wear yours that way, but obviously I enjoy that style myself. It’s a matter of personal preference and I am very confident and happy with my choice. 🥰

  4. Hi Kay– What size is your blue & white stripe Joedy F&E shirt? Do you get the same size as in the Eileen shirt? My Eileen shirts are medium but Joedy looks more relaxed.
    Thank you very much!

  5. It is very common where I live (Philadelphia, PA) for women of all ages to wear denim shorts anywhere, anytime, and to me they’re actually an improvement on the ubiquitous yoga pants, sweat pants, etc. – for everyday activities folks tend not to get too dressed up. Regarding today’s Bible quote, I remembered the old saying that, “God is never in a hurry!” Unlike the rest of us, right?!?,

  6. Hi Kay you look so lovely in all your outfits , specially in lavender , that blue & white stripe shirt is lovely and I love the outfit with the white sleeveless shirt , I thought I could swap out the trousers for my black city shorts which come to just below my knee and I wear them with a medium wedge heel, because my legs do not look like yours! ( I have fuller thighs) and I’m so pleased to hear you decided as you felt comfortable to go out and about that day in your denim shorts , as I said in a previous post “ If my legs looked as good as yours I would be wearing my shorts out and about all summer” . I would love to wear the denim shorts I love that look ♥️specially with all the gorgeous tops around but I need shorts that come to my knees , I hate my thighs!!! I have dainty ankles and really nice calves my knees are ok but any further up uuurgh . Hope James is feeling better now ? .
