Happy Friday! I hope you’ve had a good week and that you have something interesting planned for the weekend. If not, take some time today to plan a change of scenery and/or pace sometime in the next couple of days. We all need a break for the norm now and then. But today I’m staying on track with my usual Friday protocol and sharing the colorful summer outfits I wore recently. This is how I really Dressed for My Day this week.

Colorful Summer Outfits I've Worn Recently

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

I like to focus on why I wore what I wore and how I put my looks together in these weekly posts. So I may not call out each item shown. You’ll find links to anything that is available in the captions under the photos. I’ll also share fit information there IF the garment doesn’t fit true to size (TTS). I try to be transparent about gifting; gifted items are indicated with a C/O beside them, meaning they were given to me “courtesy of” that brand. Finally, I’m 5’8″ and about 160 pounds, so I normally wear a misses 10. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape.

The Soft Hues I Wore Friday

Friday was a work from home day – as are most days! By the end of the work week I’m generally just craving comfortable clothes. But I always prefer to look put together as well. So I opted for some comfortable brown linen lantern pants that I’ve had in my closet a few years now with a simple pale blue ribbed raglan tee.

After many washes, these linen lantern pants are buttery soft, so this outfit felt perfect for a day tying up loose ends in my office.

On Saturday I Stepped Out in Black

Saturday I got in my workout and did a little housework, then I needed to run some errands. I’d had this black linen utility dress pulled forward in my closet all week to wear and not gotten around to it. So I decided it was the perfect choice for this day.

I enjoy the linen utility dress worn loose, too, but on this day I opted to cinch it with a thin leather belt. I added other cognac accessories to tie it all together, and wore simple gold jewelry. This may be my favorite outfit of the week. I’m enjoying wearing more color this spring and summer, but I still love my black! (That linen utility dress comes in two other colors and is now 60% off!)

Pale Sky Blue I Wore to Church on Sunday

You may have already seen this outfit in my blog post, 3 Ways to Wear a Classic Shirtdress, earlier this week. We often stop to take a set of photos or two after church. Our favorite little location is now bursting with flowers, so it was a perfect day to shoot these.

For church and a Father’s Day lunch at one of James’ favorite Cincinnati hamburger joints, this breezy cotton poplin shirtdress felt perfect. I adore the pale sky blue color and the fabric is dreamy soft and just the right thickness. I did wear this slip underneath, as well as my slip shorts that I always wear with skirts and dresses in the warmer months. I accessorized with my favorite nude block heel sandals (from a couple of years ago), my green handbag and a colorful cotton bandana featuring that same cheerful green and soft blue.

Bright Pink Floral for Monday

Monday I was eager to wear this new pink textured shirt I’d gotten in the week before. When it first arrived it looked so puffy, I feared I’d end up returning it. But when I pressed it, the sleeves calmed down a bit. Ha! I LOVE it. I needed a few colorful tops to wear with jeans, my denim skirt and white pants and jeans, and this one fits the bill perfectly.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was on the hunt for the perfect light wash jeans. I ended up with these Mother the Rambler mid-rise straight-leg jeans (TTS – wearing a 30), as well as the Frame Le Sleek straight leg ankle jeans. I’m having the latter pair hemmed up a couple of inches and I pick them up this weekend (I got a 31 in the Frame Le Sleek). They’re actually my clear favorite of the two because the rise is higher. The Anthropologie website calls the Mother the Rambler a high-rise, but they’re not. The inside of the jean actually says they are a mid-rise. Both pairs have nice stretch, are a beautiful light blue wash and feature straight legs that aren’t too snug but stylishly more relaxed fit.

Cheerful Violet for Tuesday

I love lavender, violet, soft purple, whatever. It’s funny, I used to feel like it was an “old lady” color and stayed away from it. Well, I guess I am an old lady now and I’m loving it. Ha! So I was excited with the new Frank & Eileen Lauren dress arrived in this cheerful violet shade.

Soothing Lavender for Tuesday

I wore this dress after shooting Wednesday’s video as I sat and edited rest of the day. I accessorized with layered necklaces and my cognac sandals.

Pretty Pastel Floral for Wednesday

Wednesday I had to accompany James to a dentist appointment because he required a little anesthesia for the procedure. I topped my white linen pants with this sweet cotton shirt in a new Liberty print.

I’d used my green leather bag last, so I just picked it up again to add a punch of color to this soft look. Notice I actually left my shirt untucked on this day. One of the things I love about all of the Eileen button-up shirts is that they’re a little shorter than many. So it doesn’t overwhelm my frame when left out. For a casual summer day I really like this “undone” look.

Bold Red for Thursday

Thursday I had an eye exam in the morning followed by a mani pedi in the late afternoon. I treated myself to lunch at a new restaurant in between. I always need a little boost for things like eye appointments. During the exam I began to question whether I dislike dental exams or eye exams more. Ha! And honestly, I don’t even really enjoy nail appointments. Yeah, I’m weird like that I guess. But I made it through it all. LOL.

the Mina dress (c/o) // belt (c/o) // sandals // similar bag option // beaded necklace // gold chain necklace (c/o – use code KAY20 for 20% off) // pendant necklace // earrings

To bolster my confidence for the day I wore my new Brochu Walker red Mina dress (c/o) and accessorized it with a cognac leather belt (c/o), sandals and bag. This dress is in a beautiful, travel-worthy fabric that feels soft and has those lovely quick-drying properties. I’m looking forward to wearing it on our upcoming trip to the Michigan shore.

Well, those are the colorful summer outfits I wore recently. Let me know if you have any questions about sizing, etc. I’m so grateful you dropped in today. I hope you have a blessed and beautiful day.

Blessed for My Day

Have you taken time today to simply be in the presence of the Lord? Have you met Him in the pages of His Word? Have you spoken to Him? And then listened for His quiet voice, leaning in to still the distractions and focus on His instructions and words of encouragement alone?ย

Some days I get in a hurry to do the things God has called me to do and miss the most important thing: simply being with my God. But the Bible assures me that if I will simply seek Him, He will make Himself found. The God who created me desires to spend time with me. He wants to be known by me and to speak to my heart. He wants the same with you.ย

Forย a day in Your courts is better than a thousandย outside.
I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God
Than dwell in the tents of wickedness. ~ Psalm 84:10

xoxo, Kay

  1. Hi Kay, I had to chuckle at your comment about the color lavender. I felt the same way and now I love it. Unfortunately, I think the ‘old lady’ association came from seeing many older women wearing the color because the color compliments silver hair. Now that my hair is leaning towards silver, I find it more complimentary as well.

  2. I love the dress and were many that have elastic at the waist. I was wondering about putting a belt on them. You just gave me permission to do so. I thought it would be too redundant. It looks good.

Enjoy your trip to Michigan. My home state. I don’t know how far you are traveling but our favorite place is the Sleeping Bear Dunes area.

  3. You look gorgeous in that Mina dress! And yes, lilac, lavender, wisteria, whatever name we call it, that light purple is a great color for you. I giggled at your remark about not enjoying mani appointments, as I don’t particularly either. I tend to do my own nails at home to both save money and spare myself the aggravation. Only time I will do a professional mani is if I want a french tip. That takes real skill. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Looks like I’m not alone! I can count on one hand (pardon the pun) how many times I’ve ever had a professional manicure and have never had a professional pedi. I do my own. I’m kind of frugal with certain things but splurge on others. All through my 20’s through 40’s I even cut and colored my own hair. Now I have it professionally done twice a year. Luckily I barely have any grey so I can just touch it up here and there in between my 2 visits a year.

    1. They’re like Spanx but not with the compression. I suggest you click through the link and look at them. They’re like hose, but cut off mid thigh. They actually have a few different lengths. I just can’t imagine wearing dresses or skirts without them now.

  4. Hi Kay. Love the blue dress and sweet button-down shirt. Looks so cool and breezy on you. Yay, F&E! Have a blessed weekend.

  5. You look so cute in everything you wore. i love these type post. I wish I could wear the longer style dresses like the red one, but at my height, they just aren’t a good look. I kept ordering them to try and finally realized it was not going to happen. You are the sweetest lady and I’m so glad you do videos, so we could all get to know your personality. Thank you for the BFMD today. I needed it. I have been not on my regular bible/quiet time this week and I sure feel it. I’ve been more stressed and not handling things as well. I know HE desires me to be with HIM daily and I desire it too, but things can get in the way. Eye apts. are hard for me too with the bright lights. I usually come out with a migraine. I think picking out frames is hard too. This last go around it took weeks to find both regular and sunglass ones. I’d love for you to share the ones you purchased, once they come in. As for the dentist, it doesn’t bother me at all, as I was a dental assistant and also a hygienist for 18 and younger for years.

  6. You mentioned you have new prescription sunglasses. I carry mine with me but when I drive, I’d forget and leave them when I left the car. When I went into a store, I would have to wear them to see. I purchased some wrap or cocoon sunglasses from Amazon that I keep in the car to put over my regular glasses. That way, if I forget, I can take them off and still wear regular glasses. It’s a great back up to my prescription sunglasses.

      1. I love color! Everything is lovely with plenty of color. But my favorite is your reflection. Thank you.

  7. We all hate those eye exams and here in Adelaide I do not have to have the puff test. The eye specialist does a special test during my examination ๐Ÿง

  8. I love the red dress on you. The lavender dress is cute too and looks great with your hair. I never wore lavender either because I thought it was old lady too and it didn’t look good on me. Now that my hair is white/silver the color looks good on me. I’m now wearing brighter and cooler colors now.

  9. Pretty looks! Yes, I always associated shades of purple with “old lady,” too – in fact, there is a book, “When I Am An Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple!” Well, it’s a pretty color, so why not?!? It’s also a regal color, so there!
