I spent the past week in sunny Florida, and that has me all the more ready for spring. I’m eager to tuck away my full length jeans and pants and opt instead for ankle lengths. Ankle length straight leg jeans are definitely trending this spring and summer. While this cropped length is not new to most of us, some of us are still adjusting to the straight leg version. But today I’m sharing a pair of straight leg ankle jeans from Wit & Wisdom, a Nordstrom exclusive brand, that make trying out this denim trend quite affordable and risk-free.

Straight Leg Ankle Jeans from Wit & Wisdom

While I know it can be hard to change styles when we’ve become accustomed to something, I think it’s worthwhile for every woman to give straight leg ankle jeans a fair shot. This silhouette can be quite slimming and elongating if chosen and worn correctly. A few of the features that I suggest looking for include:

  • a mid to high rise (10-11.5″) – so the ankle length jeans are long enough from waistband to hem to create that long leg effect
  • a darker wash – because it’s trending but also quite slenderizing
  • slenderizing control – to keep the silhouette as smooth and trim as possible
Straight Leg Ankle Jeans from Wit & Wisdom

These Wit & Wisdom Ab-solution slim, straight, ankle jeans have all of those features plus a trending raw hem. And Wit & Wisdom’s signature Ab-solution panel offers slimming, shaping and lifting in all the right places on a woman’s body. These dark wash jeans are available in a full range of sizes for a very affordable price. They do have a lot of stretch in them, but I don’t find them to “stretch out” with wear. So you might consider sizing down if you like a snug fit. But I’m wearing my usual size 8 very comfortably and happily.

Oh, and if they’re a little too long, just use your sewing shears to trim a bit off like I did. But I suggest keeping the length just above the ankle bone. I think I trimmed about 3/4 inch.

To create the most slimming and elongating look with your straight leg ankle jeans, consider pairing them with a top in the same intensity and/or color. Then top that “column of color” with a contrasting third piece. My Caslon t-shirt is so soft and comes in a variety of colors. I’m wearing my usual medium, but it does run a little large so I probably could have worn a small.

Caslon T-Shirt

Depending on your proportions, I think it’s generally smart to tuck your top a bit when wearing ankle length jeans. That will help create that long lower portion of your body. I chose to tuck my tee and then I added a Nordstrom brand double loop leather belt to elevate the simple outfit a bit. I’m wearing the cognac leather belt, but it’s also available in black and a pretty bone shade. The belt runs true to size. (Style Tip: If you don’t want to tuck your top but still want that elongating effect, choose a more cropped length top.)

The dark wash straight leg ankle jeans and coordinating navy t-shirt create a classic column of color in this outfit, but the relaxed fit gabardine blazer is really the star of this ensemble.

Ivory gabardine blazer

This ivory relaxed fit gabardine blazer is going to be a frequent go-to in my spring and summer wardrobe. I was blown away by the quality and drape of this simple, unlined, lightweight blazer. Yes, I had to iron it when the package arrived. But it kept its shape beautifully with wear. And while blazers have been trending for years now, this relaxed fit is definitely the more contemporary style.

Relaxed Fit Blazer

The Open Edit blazer features a back vent, functional button cuffs, a notched lapel and a button closure. It runs true to size and comes in several other great colors. But I think this ivory is especially perfect for spring and summer. Wear it with jeans over a simple tee like mine or an edgy graphic t-shirt like this one. Or wear it with trousers or dresses. And yes, rolling or scrunching up your blazer sleeves is very on point, but also optional. You do you!

Having some recent skin cancer scares, a wide brimmed hat has become a permanent part of my accessory collection. I took this packable floppy hat on vacation and wore it everywhere.

Accessories

I completed my elevated casual look with my floral print square scarf, some gold teardrop earrings and a few gold toned layered bracelets.

One of the beauties of wearing straight leg ankle jeans is that they work great with so many footwear choices. In today’s post I’m wearing these Open Edit Cora heeled sandals as well as these Zeldi loafers. Both shoes fit true to size and wear very comfortably, and I’d recommend either with this outfit depending on your personal style aesthetic and preferences.

Heels and Bag

I also carried this faux leather classic tote on my vacation. It was a great travel bag, but also really balances this blazer and jeans combo nicely.

Below you can see how the straight leg ankle jeans work with the Zeldi loafers. They’re a great little loafer. And I especially love that the shade is close to my skin color, creating that visually long line. Really you can wear most any shoes with straight leg ankle jeans, but it’s always smart to wear a shoe in either your skin tone or the same color as your pants. It just visually elongates and slenderizes.

So if you haven’t tried straight leg ankle jeans yet, I can highly recommend these Wit & Wisdom Ab-solution slim, straight, ankle jeans. The price is good and the quality is pretty amazing. And they have all the features that will help you feel and look your best. And since Nordstrom always offers free shipping and free returns, you can try these straight leg ankle jeans or others risk-free. Blessed for My Day

Where we set our mind determines our course. I’ve had days when I knew I was setting out on a dangerous or at least toxic course as I allowed my mind to think on things that stirred up either fear or anger or bitterness. For some reason those thoughts can feel sickeningly delightful. I guess because that kind of thinking tends to elevate self and it draws you in like a warm bath you don’t want to get out of.

If you’re in that warm bath of unhealthy thoughts today, let me offer you a warm, dry towel of truth to wrap up in instead. Step out of that self-exalting kind of thinking and choose to look at your circumstances only through the perspective of biblical truth instead. Then choose to listen to the Holy Spirit’s reminders to set your thoughts on the things above so that you are not taken captive by such thoughts again.

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. ~ Romans 8:5

  1. I love this look with the one color column and a flattering blazer on top. I am a heavy-set woman and quite tall, but this is still a great silhouette even for me! Thanks for showing these really wearable outfits.

  2. Oh these photos Kay are amazing and it looked like you had an amazing time!

These jeans are one pair I have to have. And they look so cute on you!

Have a Blessed day and enjoy Savanna,
    Blessings,

      1. Love this outfit Kay. Glad you are able to get away and take a vacation.
I am 5’10” – I wondered if you could show some jeans from time to time that come in longer lengths.

        1. Hi Elaine. I can try. These are actually supposed to be ankle length jeans and they ran a little long on me (I’m 5’8”) so I cut off about an inch. They might work well for you.

  3. Kay, I love this classy outfit. I’m ready for Spring too and this outfit is very inspiring! But the Blessed for the day message is exactly how I need to get up and dress for my spirit today! So happy you and James are enjoying your much needed vacation! ?☀️

  4. Glad to see you wearing your big hat in the sun! It is an essential item for those of us who have dealt with skin cancer!! would you consider doing a post on hats for the sun!

  5. Thank you for yet again blessing my day. What powerful words to start this morning off right! You look beautiful in these fashions and I plan to try those jeans.

  6. Good Morning Kay!
Love your outfit! You look wonderful and so put together! Love the hat too! I too am ready to pack my winter clothes away but our Michigan weather is saying Not Yet!!! But I do plan on going through my spring/summer clothes to see where I can purge and replace! I am loving the outfit you are wearing.

    1. Hahaha! I’ve purchased and kept from last year several cotton sweaters that I’ll be wearing a lot this spring. Florida was great, but that warmth is not my reality either. ?

  7. Kay, you always look terrific, but today is EXCEPTIONAL! Beautiful coordinated outfit, and you look stunning! Thanks for bringing such helpful information to us! ?

  8. I love this outfit on you! I really like straight leg jeans in the dark wash. Very slimming and flattering. I just wish they were not raw hemmed. I would like hemmed jeans better, but these are still really nice. I will probably have to hem my jeans to get the ankle length and look, as I am 5’3″. Glad you and James are having fun in the sunshine and warmth.

  9. Very cute outfit, Kay!
Having recently retired after working at a law firm as a legal assistant for 40 years, my clothing needs have definitely changed, as has the amount I can spend for clothing. I’m not able to replenish my wardrobe in the seasons as often as I used to when I was working. Do you have a budget you use for shopping for the seasons? I do really need to find a few new bottoms (casual skirt, Capri, ankle jeans?) for spring and summer but I know I can’t get too many things. What would be the best necessary basics to get for spring and summer? Thank you.

    1. Hi Kelly. My clothing budget is not normal anymore since I started blogging. But I’ll be sharing my Spring Wardrobe Essentials post next week. So stay tuned! ?

  10. Love the outfit! I started following you recently and am learning from the principles you share. As a short woman, creating a longer silhouette is especially important for me. I’d never thought of wearing pants and tops in the same color with a jacket or cardigan, but now I will! Unfortunately, I have fewer options because most items don’t come in petite sizes, but I’m learning more about what to look for. Thank you!

  11. Hi Kay. First, I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Deborah and I am 67 years young. I’m a mom, a grandma, a wife, and a retired business women. Until my retirement, my wardrobe was primarily “Corporate” clothing. Now I’m having fun creating a wardrobe that works for my current lifestyle. I’ve been following you for about a couple of months and I think you are awesome! You look so pretty in everything. Your tips, posts, videos, are on point and are practical for today’s woman. You have inspired me to stay on course, and to make the right wardrobe choices as I transition to my new lifestyle. I think you are a lovely, genuine person…keep doing what you do, you are blessed and you are bringing blessings to your followers. Ps I am purchasing the loafers and the blazer!

    1. Thank you so much for introducing yourself, Deborah. I love meeting my readers and viewers. I’m glad my content is helpful to you. Congratulations on your retirement. That is so exciting. Welcome to Dressed for My Day. This community is such a blessing to me!

  12. Kay, you look fabulous in this perfect Spring outfit! I have been wearing W&W jeans for several years, so I can definitely vouch for how awesome they are. That brand is actually my go-to in jeans, since buying premium denim isn’t something I can do. I can’t stand to wear hats nor do I like wearing blazers, and oh how I wish I did! And I’ve been dealing with skin cancer for 50+ years. I am so glad that you and James are really enjoying your vacation and are getting to see so much of this beautiful country. Safe travels!

    1. Thank you, Ginger. I don’t especially enjoy wearing hats either. But since I’m treating my nose with that Flourouracil right now, I’m making myself be very consistent and I’m making peace with it! ? Thanks so much for dropping in today. ?

  13. Kay,
You look very fresh and stylish on your vacation. Love the heeled sandals and crisp white blazer.
I discovered straight jeans while trying to replace my old worn-out jeans. I found that the sizes have changed (vanity sizing) so several returns! The mall stores near me stock only size 4 and up so I had no choice if I want a size 2 . I have to go through the mail return hassle. Finally (happy to say) I have two straight pairs with high waists and love them! Phew!
    Enjoy your time away!

  14. Loved your straight leg ankle pants information. Love your hat too. Being fair headed and often outside can you do a series on hats that protect from the sun’s rays but stylish too?

  15. I love the look of dark wash jeans, but many I have bought in the past rub off blue even after several washings. How is the colorfastness of these jeans.

    1. Well I haven’t had them long, but they didn’t rub off blue on my skin or the ivory jacket. I do suggest washing the jeans turned inside out with a bit of white vinegar in the washing machine before wearing.

  16. Love the outfit, Kay! Very flattering and wearable! At the moment, the links for jeans, blazer & sandals aren’t working for me, but I’ll try again. I was sad to see another comment stating the jeans aren’t offered in petite, because they look great! You look super cute in that hat! I’ve started to enjoy wearing hats the past few years & the straw fedoras are so much cooler than caps. So glad you are relaxing.

  17. Kay, I love this outfit! I just ordered the WW jeans. My jean wardrobe needs a refresh and these checked my boxes. You look so polished, as usual. Thank you for all you do…and happy belated birthday!

  18. This is the perfect outfit! You look terrific, and I would enjoy it too. I especially like how the jeans and t-shirt create a column of color. And finally bone-colored belts are here! I need a light-colored belt.
Thank you for styling a hat. I am realizing that sun protection is my best defense against aging and skin cancer.
I haven’t shopped with Nordstrom yet. I am really tempted to purchase the jeans and t-shirt. I would love to get the blazer also, but I am getting frustrated at how few petite options Nordstrom has. I only need petite for sleeve length, but that’s a big thing. I have decided I do not have to settle for poorly-fitting long-sleeve tops, jackets, and coats anymore.

  19. Gorgeous outfits! One of my faves. You really have made me elevate my casual style.

Wish I’d known you were going to be in Asheville. Would have loved to have met you! We lived right across from The Grove Park Inn for many years and moved 45 minutes away almost 15 years ago. Hope you got to see that beautiful hotel. Loved having a warm drink (or glass of wine) by that huge roaring fire. Have fun!

    1. Hi Colette. We stayed at the Grove Park years ago, but not this visit. We just finished walking through downtown and are on our way out now. Blessings!

  21. Love this outfit Kay. Glad you are able to get away and take a vacation.
I am 5’10” – I wondered if you could show some jeans from time to time that come in longer lengths.

    1. Love your post. I checked the jacket but doesn’t show a white or off white choice. Your outfit is great- I have been wearing the straight ankle length jeans but I did get some in lighter blue. I agree the dark wash is more slimming and dressy – usually what I choose. But I wanted to try something new. Keep up the good work!

  22. Hello Kay,
I don’t want to miss the opportunity to wish you a belated “Happy Birthday!!” Being it’s the same as my son’s birthday, I am not likely to forget it!
Such a lovely, good look in this post! I love it!
Good reminder in the Blessed for my Day!
    Blessings to you!
    Phyllis

  23. Kay could you do a segment on bathing suits? I would specifically like to see suits that down play your stomach area and back fat. I have enjoyed your post for the last several months.

    1. I’ll definitely do one. My guess is it will probably be in April or even more likely May. I’ll have to check when I normally do those. But yes, I will certainly get to that.
