A Week of Summer Outfits for Women Over 50

Happy Friday from Georgia, where I’m visiting with family for a few days. It’s been a hot, hot week, and it’s looking like we’re in for a steamy hot weekend, too. I’m prepared. I brought breezy linen pants and shorts to pair with loose-fitting tops and sandals. And today I’m sharing the week of summer outfits I wore most recently. Let’s see how I really dressed for my day this past week.

How to Shop Here: To shop the items I feature, just click on the words in the captions of photos, the highlighted words in my text or the images in the shopping widgets I sometimes include. When you shop through my links I potentially earn a commission on your purchases, but at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my work here by shopping my links. Items that have been gifted to me by the associated brand are indicated with “c/o”.

I like to focus on why I wore what I wore and how I put my looks together in these weekly posts. So I may not call out each item shown. You’ll find links to anything that is available in the captions under the photos. I’ll also share fit information there IF the garment doesn’t fit true to size (TTS). I try to be transparent about gifting; gifted items are indicated with a C/O beside them, meaning they were given to me “courtesy of” that brand. Finally, I’m 5’8″ and about 160 pounds, so I normally wear a misses 10. I have even proportions and an hourglass shape.

Flowy Linen Pants Outfit for Friday

Last Friday I dressed in these super wide leg pull on linen pants with a simple white v-neck cotton slub t-shirt. These fun pants come in several colors and are super soft and comfy. They have a wide elasticized waistband and I decided to wear a belt over it with the tee tucked in.

I added simple, seasonal jewelry and wore my cognac Tory Burch sandals. This cool and casual outfit was perfect for a day of working at home, but I would have been glad to step out to lunch in it, too.

Classy Blazer & Jeans to Shoot a Video

Saturday we shot this week’s YouTube video and next week’s. For next week’s video I wore my J.Crew slim wide leg jeans with this beautiful L’Agence metallic knit blazer over my boucle sweater vest. I’ve since then ordered a couple of other plain sweater tanks that I think will look even better under the blazer. It became a fast favorite the minute it arrived. The metallic knit blazer fits true to their size guide; I ordered a large per the suggestions for my measurements. It has sculpted shoulder pads, fits beautifully close to the body and creates such a pretty silhouette.

I completed the look with my Dolce Vita light tan leather strappy heels. These shoes are very popular right now, and I can see why. They’re fairly comfortable for heels, and the effect of the flesh tone straps with the accent piece at the toes is very beautiful. They come in ivory and black, too.

A Pretty Dress for Sunday

Sunday I wore the dress I modeled for a blog post earlier this week. When we left for church that morning our weather app said that the temperature was in the 80s but felt like it was 102 Fahrenheit. Crazy hot!

Lyndsie Midi Dress (c/o) // tote bag // sandals (c/o) more economical option //brooklyn bracelet // watch // gold chain necklace earrings (c/o – use code KAY20 for 20% off) // pendant necklace // gold star necklace // earrings // sunglasses

For such a hot day, this linen Lyndsie Midi Dress (c/o) felt cool and comfortable. It has a lined skirt and I wore a slip underneath, too. But I still felt really good in this beautiful, flowy frock.

Sunday Afternoon Outfit

Sunday afternoon I changed into another linen outfit.

linen vest // linen pants // sandals // necklace // bracelet

You just can’t beat Eileen Fisher separates when you’re trying to keep cool. This linen vest and linen pants combo felt comfortable but also sharp and coordinated. I wear a size small in both pieces, as I almost always size down at Eileen Fisher. I finished the outfit with my flesh toned sandals.

Monday Work From Home Outfit

Monday was a busy work day and I needed to make sure I stayed on task. So I got dressed for my day early in a crisp button-up sleeveless top and denim skirt.

sleeveless button front shirt // denim skirt // sandals // necklace (c/o – use code KAY20 for 20% off) // earrings (c/o)

I finished this simple but sharp outfit with cognac accessories and simple jewelry. Instead of layering necklaces or wearing a statement necklace, I chose impactful earrings that could elevate the look.

Silk & Cotton Outfit for Appointments

Tuesday I headed out to a hair appointment followed by a dental procedure. With it still very hot outside, I put together an outfit that would keep me cool but also look a little special.

blouse is no longer available // relaxed utility pants // similar bag // sandals // bracelet // necklace

I thoroughly enjoyed wearing my cotton relaxed utility pants with my floral print silk blouse. The blouse is no longer available; it’s one I purchased last summer. But this is a combination (silk blouse + cotton, linen or denim pants) that I love wearing during the summer.

Linen Outfit for Thursday

I planned to be working from home and packing all Thursday, but I ended up making a quick trip to pick up my new eye glasses, too. When they texted to say that my glasses were in I just grabbed my straw bag and walked out the door in what I’d been wearing all day.

cotton slub v-neck tee // linen pants // similar bag // sandals // necklace // earrings

I was glad I had dressed for my day in these soft yellow linen pants and cotton slub v-neck tee. My Frankie4 sandals felt comfortable for my quick walk through the mall, but they also looked sporty and modern.

Travel Outfit for Thursday

When I was preparing for my trip this week, I remembered the sales woman at J.McLaughlin saying that she liked to travel in her linen shirt and Catalina Cloth pants, so I decided on this outfit. It worked perfectly for a day of travel followed by visiting with family over a delicious dinner prepared by my parents.

linen shirt // Catalina Cloth pants // necklace // paperclip bracelet // large paperclip bracelet // chain link bracelet // sneakers // shoulder bag // larger suitcase // carryon suitcase

I sized up to a large in the Catalina Cloth pants, but I’m not sure that was necessary. Mine are quite roomy on me; in fact, my only concern was that they might fall down. Ha! Alas, they did not. And they truly are great travel pants.

So that’s my week of summer outfits! Thanks so much for stopping in today. By the way, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Preview is up. I’m not even half way through looking it over since I’m prioritizing time with my family right now. But I plan to share my initial picks on Monday. You can check out the sale HERE and begin to build your wish list.

Blessed for My Day

Sometimes it’s frustrating to choose the godly course of action rather than just leaning in to what comes naturally. Wouldn’t you agree? Especially when others around me are behaving badly and seemingly “getting away with it,” I just want to throw my hands up in the air and demand my way. Why should I have to live at a higher level of scrutiny when others get to do whatever they want and say whatever comes to mind?

I’ll tell you why: because God has called His children to a higher standard of living. He wants us to live in such a way that it causes others to realize that we serve a holy God. We are to reflect His glory, not the world’s grit. How are you blending in? And how do you need to speak or act differently so that your life reflects the holiness of God rather than the norms of this world?

You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the sons of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself; I am the Lord. ~ Leviticus 19:18

xoxo, Kay

  1. Great BFMD today. It spoke to me. I always enjoy what you really work. Love all the linen. Have fun in Atlanta.

    1. I love that you said “mostly” cute outfits. I agree. I bet I know the one that you didn’t like. Haha. We’ll cut Kay some slack since she MOSTLY gets it right! ;} I mean no one gets it right EVERY time! I once commented to another fashion blogger that even Princess Diana had an occasional fashion miss. (That blogger blocked me after that! ahaha).

      1. I bet you know too! lol I agree not everyone gets it right every time. We all have different tastes and styles. I cannot believe you got blocked by a blogger tor that. I loved Princess Diana and you are right she missed sometimes too. Love Kay. She’s the best.!

  2. Thanks for sharing these summer outfits this week. I appreciate the variety of casual but pulled together looks but I’m in love with that blazer. You always look fantastic wearing a blazer. I’m inspired to expand my jacket wardrobe.

  3. A slip under a lined linen dress! Seems that would be too much. Wouldn’t the lined dress be enough to keep the dress from clinging? Or perhaps the underwear shorts?

    1. I find that the slip shorts sometimes cause a linen dress to bunch up a little if you don’t have on a slip. The lining is either cotton or linen, I can’t remember which. So when it rubs against the slips shorts it can bunch up. I don’t find a slip to add bulk or heat and I just really don’t mind wearing one at all.

  4. Beautiful outfits, though when I read “Colorful Summer Outfits,” I was expecting something else. These are mostly all neutrals and subdued pastels – lovely, yes, but not so colorful. I especially love those J. Crew jeans that you styled with the blazer. I just ordered a pair for myself based on your picture. Have you ever followed the blog “Midlife Chic?” Now that lady rocks some color! Have a blessed day.

    1. Hi Em, the title of this post is A Week of Summer Outfits. Last week’s HIRDFMD post was called Colorful Summer Outfits. But I’ll confess, even there I didn’t wear all color. I just love my neutrals some days, even in the summer. Thanks for reading!

  5. Very nice looks every day! I hope you have a relaxing, happy time visiting with your family.
