The Warm/Cool Outfit

Yesterday it was cool here. Today it’s getting warm again. What’s a girl to do? Especially as we get into September and October I’ll be struggling a little to dress for days that start off cool, then warm up and then turn cool again. You, too? That’s why I’m sharing a great warm/cool outfit today.

The Warm_Cool Outfit
straight-fit high-waist ankle jeans // white t-shirt // cotton blend pullover sweater // leopard print belt // sneakers // shoulder bag // necklace (option) // earrings

When the day starts out cool simply layer a cotton or cotton blend pullover sweater over a lightweight t-shirt. I chose to go with a solid white tee, but you could even wear a graphic tee or a shirt of a different color.

When the weather turns warmer, just slip off the sweater and wrap it around your waist.

Or throw it over your shoulders and tie it once around your neck.

Naturalizer Sneakers

I’m showing an ultra casual but chic look with sneakers, casual button fly jeans and neutral tones, but this look works beautifully with dressier flats and more color, too.

For added interest when you slip the sweater off, consider adding a fun belt, like this vegan leopard print belt.

Let your t-shirt hem peek out from under your sweater for a casual, layered look. I also like the way this t-shirt peeks out through the collar of the sweater.

You can easily duplicate this warm/cool outfit with any lightweight t-shirt and sweater, but if you’re looking for a great neutral, light sweater for the fall, I highly recommend this oatmeal colored pullover. It’s soft, features a trending split hem and will look great with so many things – black pants or jeans, camo, leopard print, white jeans and of course blue denim.

Blessed for My Day

Do you ever just need to vent? I sure do. But I’ve found that the best place to vent is to the Lord. When I share my frustrations too profusely and fervently to others, I risk sounding like I’m whining or expecting them to somehow fix my situation. I may even receive unsolicited advice.

And yes, advice is sometimes helpful. But then there are times when you’ve already processed the situation over and over and over, and someone comes along with a somewhat trite and easy-fix answer. That can just be all the more frustrating. Right? Instead, take your cares to the Lord. He cares for you. He’ll give ear to your frustrations and listen with compassion. And He alone can give you true wisdom and perspective.

Give ear to my words, O Lord;
    consider my groaning.
Give attention to the sound of my cry,
    my King and my God,
for to you do I pray. ~ Psalm 5:1-2

  1. I’m wearing that exact same look today (sans the sweater because it’s still too hot here in OKlahoma) to go have lunch with my daughter at our favorite local Tea Room and then to Walmart! Ha! So exciting, but I’m really looking forward to it. You didn’t mention, but hope you got your phone working again. Enjoy your lunch today with the ladies from church!

    1. Thanks Sondra. No, unfortunately my phone is dead. I’m still trying to figure out what to do. I suppose I need to buy a new one. It just wasn’t in the budget. 🙁 But alas, how can you be a style blogger without a good cell phone? So I’ll be talking with my husband and son this weekend about which one to buy and how. Thanks for asking! And lunch was wonderful. I’m so glad I know a few more women now.

  2. What color are the sneakers you’re wearing? They seem lighter than the tan ones in the link you shared.

  3. It is too warm here in Texas to be wearing sweaters; however, I’m cold natured and always bring a sweater wherever I go. I like the neutral colors you are wearing. Enjoy your lunch and meeting other ladies, and thanks for the reflection.

  4. Hi Kay, I was going to ask you what size is the sweater (I love it) but I see you answered already. I do want to tell you I am still enjoying your blog. Oh, sorry about your phone :~( Have a wonderful holiday weekend…

    1. Great! Glad you like the sweater. Yeah, I think I’m going to borrow an old one of my son’s for a couple of weeks and then get a new one. I feel like such an idiot. But whatya gonna do?? Hope you have a lovely weekend, too!

  5. You look great! Love the look! Here in Colorado mornings are cool, days are warm to hot and evenings cool again. Layers are the way to go! Happy you’re enjoying your new home and hope you get a new phone soon!
    Love your blog….

    1. Thanks so much, Dawn. Yes, we’re having similar weather. And that’s a good thing! But it can be a little tricky, too. I think I’m going to borrow an old phone of my son’s for a couple of weeks and then get a new one. Thanks so much. I’m really glad you enjoy the blog! 🙂

  6. Hi Kay, just wondering if you are wearing the Dior lipstick in these photos that you mentioned in your August favorites post. I have never spent that much for a lipstick in my life, so I was curious exactly what you really like about it and also how it looks on. For instance, I believe it was called Dior Shine. Does it have a shininess to it? Thanks!

    1. Hi Debbie, yes the lipstick is quite shiny, but in a sheer way. It still has plenty of color pigmentation, but it just doesn’t look thick on. And yes, I do believe I had it on in these photos. You might stop by the Dior counter at Nordstrom or wherever and ask if they can give you a sample packet. When I purchased this one they gave me another sample packet of a lip balm that I didn’t like at all. But they might still have these samples, too.

  7. Hi Kay,

I love this outfit on you! It looks effortless on you and is so cute. Just thought I would let you know. Unfortunately it looks like you will have to spring for a phone! Ugh! I had to go through that last fall. I don’t like having to put money towards a new phone, but mine was a dinosaur at 5years and I do enjoy the updated one. At any rate good luck with that and I’m sure everything will work out with your new home and church. God bless you and your husband.♥️

    1. Thank you so much, Patty. Yes, I’ll be getting a new phone. And I had planned to get one soon anyhow, but not quite yet. Argh. At any rate, it will all be okay. Have a wonderful weekend!

  8. A great transitional look. What size is the belt you are wearing? It sounds like you are settling in nicely in your new home and city. Have a great weekend!

    1. Hi Bev. Thanks. I always get a medium in belts. We are indeed enjoying our new home and city so much. Last night we grilled out and enjoyed eating dinner on our deck. We have lots of trees shading our backyard, so it was just lovely.
