Well it’s Friday, and I have a post that smacks of a fancy date night or girls’ night out. I’m dressing up my cranberry skinny ankle jeans with the addition of a simple ruched sleeve ponte blazer and some trendy heels. I’m so excited about sharing this pretty and flirtatious outfit with you.

This is the kind of outfit I’d wear if James and I were going to a musical or play in Tucson, out to eat for a special occasion or to a friend’s birthday party. But I’d probably also wear this ensemble to church. I think the combination of colored jeans, a fitted blazer, a pretty lacy top and heels is equal parts sophisticated and flirtatious.

I received the blazer, the lacy top, the block heel pumps and the pretty pink lady bag in my recent Trunk Club trunk. Let’s start with the blazer.

I love, love, love this Vince Camuto ruched sleeve ponte knit blazer. It feels amazingly comfortable, due to the stretch of the sturdy but supple fabric. But it also has classic lines. The jacket is also available in classic navy and rich black. I’m wearing the dark heather grey.

I think the ruched sleeves make the otherwise basic jacket look very modern and relaxed. This jacket would be perfectly suited to wear with classic dress slacks or blue or black jeans, as well. And I think my favorite look just may be this jacket, blue or black jeans and a simple white t-shirt. You could even complete the look with a pair of Converse sneakers.

Honestly, the potential for this unlined but beautifully constructed ponte blazer are endless. And it’s fun just to imagine all the possibilities.

The website says the jacket runs large, and I am wearing a small. Usually I take a medium in similar jackets due to broad shoulders. So I would agree that you’ll want to size down.

Underneath the blazer I’m wearing this pretty lace blouse with a ruffle collar. This sheer blouse, which has its own removable tank camisole underneath, also comes in a lovely blush pink. It’s worth checking out.

I thought the blouse fit pretty well (I’m wearing a small), but on the website the model is wearing a top that looks a good bit looser on her than mine does. So I think I’d prefer to have the medium. (Obviously that little tag at my hip needs to be cut out.)

The blouse feels good on. It’s not itchy at all. It simply goes on over your head and has a hook and eye closure at the back of the neck.

I’m wearing my cranberry Jen7 skinny ankle jeans that I purchased during the Nordstrom anniversary sale. Of course they sold out and never have been restocked. But I found these Jen7 burgundy skinny ankle jeans, which are greatly reduced right now, and these 7 for All Mankind merlot skinny jeans with a trendy cutoff hem. They’re also reduced significantly right now.

Of course, I’m still partial to these merlot denim jeggings at Talbots. They fit me best and right now they’re 25% off.

I’m wearing my tweed upper block heel pumps, which I also featured in Wednesday’s post with an office ensemble. As I said there, these are pricey, but I’m convinced they will be worth the investment. They’re comfortable and easy to walk in because of the trendy block heel. And I look forward to wearing them with outfits like this or even the jeans/t-shirt/blazer combo I mentioned earlier.

I adore this pale pink lady bag. For some reason I’m just really crushing on lady bags right now. That’s the name for satchels like this one with the fold over closure.

But this bag is very pricey for my budget and it’s faux leather. The bag comes in a dark wine (which they call deep purple) and black, so if you’re interested, use the “favorite” feature in the shopping widget below so that you can receive notification when the price is reduced.

By the way, you may have noticed that I wore almost no jewelry with this ensemble. That’s because there was plenty going on here without it. I do have on a pair of sparkly stud earrings that I picked up at Banana Republic several years ago (very similar), and, of course, my rings. But that’s it.

I was so very pleased with my trunk this go-around with Trunk Club. I thought Shelly sent me some pieces I wouldn’t have selected from a rack for myself, but when I tried them on I really liked them. That’s really the purpose of using a stylist, you know…to try things outside of your normal box! If you’re interested in trying Trunk Club, you can also work with Shelly. Remember the service is free if you have a Nordstrom card, but even if you don’t they only charge a $50 styling fee, which is then applied to any merchandise you purchase from your trunk. Shipping is complimentary both ways, and you can indicate the price ranges you’re interested in.

In the end, I returned the lady bag and the lace blouse, simply because I couldn’t justify the purse and I didn’t really need the blouse right now. After much debate, I also returned the ponte blazer. But that’s only because I kept the other blazer she sent me! I’m not kidding you. I must have tried those two blazers on over two dozen times each! And right now I have to admit I’m a little miffed that this ponte blazer is not in my closet.

One more thing before I forget! Nordstrom is rewarding you with triple points right now when you shop through September 23rd. Those are for everyone who is a rewards member, not just credit card holders. So if you’re shopping this post at all, do yourself a favor and sign up for the rewards program first. There’s no cost.

Blessed for My Day

Today may you consistently choose to bless the Lord and praise Him for His faithfulness. I must admit that yesterday, after I’d learned the enormous amount of money my husband and I were going to have to pay to have our car repaired, I did not make this choice. I chose instead to grumble and question and doubt. And as I did, I felt my spirits droop and my joy diminish. Then I remembered that my joy is not dependent on circumstances, but on the faithfulness of my God. My husband reminded me that God has been faithful in the past and He will be trustworthy every day to come. Today let’s not let our circumstances, no matter how dire they may be, steal our joy. Let’s choose to bless the Lord and praise His name.

I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. ~ Psalm 34:1

Spread the love
xoxo, Kay

  1. While I’m looking at Spring clothing for the Southern Hemisphere spring/summer months, I enjoy your sharing ideas for autumn along with your honesty re return of items too pricey for your budget. Also appreciate the Blessed for my Day, a reminder of what ones life is truly about.
