How to Wear All Winter White

Well I think I’m through with all of my year in review posts for 2018, and it’s time to look forward. Since 2019 is a new year and a clean slate, I thought we’d start out with an all white ensemble. Today I’m sharing how to wear all winter white.

How to Wear All Winter White

Did you know that you don’t have to wear all black to sport a monochrome look that is slimming and elongating? Sure, darker colors will always slim your silhouette more. But when you wear top to toe of any color, you potentially create a longer, flattering look.

I tried a little front tuck in these first two photos, and I’m not sure I like it on me. But I thought I’d give it a go! What do you think?

The tricks to wearing all winter white are the same as the ones I shared in this post about white jeans. I used to think that when you wore one color top to toe, that color needed to be exactly the same throughout – all matching. In fact, the opposite is true. You want to use whites (or whatever one color you’re wearing) of slightly different shades, adding subtle interest to the ensemble.

Second, you also want to incorporate various textures so the outfit doesn’t “fall flat.” Here, I’m wearing a thick, soft cashmere sweater with polished dress pants and faux snakeskin pumps.

You can also add interest to a monochrome outfit by wearing some pieces that fit close to the body and others that are looser. After looking at these photos, I’ve decided my ankle pants are a little roomy on me. I love these pants and want to get plenty of wear out of them, so I’m considering having them altered slightly. What do you think?

Other than being a tad large, these are great ankle pants. They’re not lined (and I’m glad), but they’re constructed in a rich, thick polyester blend that holds its shape and looks elegant.

I know some of you gals love your heels and others of you can only wear more comfortable shoes, so I’m showing two options here. I’ve gone from a 2 1/2″ pointy toe pump to flats, but anything in between would work well with these ankle pants, too.

That’s the great thing about ankle pants. You really can wear them with any heel height. Keep that in mind when you’re selecting new pants.

Because the neck on the sweater is a wide mockneck, I decided not to add a necklace. but I added dangling gold earrings and a gold bangle. Pearl jewelry would add another lovely dimension of white to the outfit.

Also, you may have noticed in the first few photos that I showed two different handbags with this look. I carried a faux snakeskin clutch, close to the shade of the pumps, but not quite, in one photo. In the others I carried my leopard foldover clutch. I think both work beautifully, but I’d probably go with my leopard print next time. What do you think? Choices, choices!

I guess the moral of the story is that pulling off a monochrome look is not as difficult as it may seem. Everything does not need to match exactly. In fact, you’ll look more sophisticated and contemporary if you combine pieces of slightly varying shades and definitely different textures. And all winter white is truly classic and alluring. I’d wear this outfit to church, out for a celebratory dinner or to a winter retirement party, for instance.

Do you wear winter white? What about top to toe? Tell me what you think about this outfit. Or let me know if you have any questions.

Blessed for My Day

In an age where anything goes and “everyone does it,” it’s difficult to live against the grain. I’ll confess, I slip into worldly patterns of speech, behavior and thinking as easily as the next gal. And really, what’s the big deal?

Well, the big deal is Jesus Christ and the salvation He offers to all. God has called those who know Him intimately to live differently in this present age so that we appear as lights in a dark world. But notice that Titus 2:11-12 doesn’t call us to be stuffed shirts, miserable old hags or judgmental jerks. It simply calls us to live sensibly – think twice, make smart decisions – righteously – in a way that is pleasing to God – and godly – demonstrating His character in all things. And remember, His character is love.

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age… ~ Titus 2:11-12

Spread the love

  1. So interesting to see this outfit. It’s very pretty, and thanks for showing heels and flats! I have some winter white cords and may try this look with a white sweater. I’m leaning toward agreeing that you should alter your pants. And I prefer no front tuck with this sweater/pants. Beautiful outfit!

    1. Yeah, it’s been interesting reading the reader survey. Some women want to see me wear more heels and some want me to wear more flats. Ha! So when I can possibly remember, I’m going to try to take two pairs of shoes on fashions shoots and show both. We’ll see. No promises. My head’s not always on straight when I’m doing the shoots!

  2. You look lovely in the all white. I know it is a “thing” but I am never a fan of the front tuck. It just looks silly, like you can’t decide and also like someone is trying to hard to show off a flat tummy. I know I am just showing my age with this comment, lol. And I certainly love to show off a flat tummy, but it just seems too contrived.

    1. Ha, ha! That’s funny, Lezlee, that you feel like a front tuck shows off a flat tummy. I always thought of it as a way to hide love handles! But I agree with you that it doesn’t always work. I’m more prone to use it with a t-shirt, but I’d seen other women do it with a sweater and just wanted to check it out. I think I’m not a fan. 😉 At least not for me.

  3. I love this look. I agree the pants may need to be altered a little. But I have no room to talk as I tend to wear my pants slightly loose cause I don’t want all my fat to show. ?‍♀️ Both clutches are nice but I think the leopard print stands out more! ❤️ And I LOVE the Blessed For My Day today! We are to love as Christ loves us – which we can do without condoning or agreeing with sinful behavior – and be a light!

  4. Love this outfit! Thank you for showing different purses and shoes. I like the sweater untucked better. Not a fan of tucking in a sweater…to bulky. Blessed for my day was perfect as well…good reminder as we start the new year. Happy New Year!

  5. I love this winter white look on you! Very classie! I have 2 pair of nice winter white slacks, favorites for 3 seasons. Worth what they cost!!

  6. I love how you keep it real by mentioning the busy grocery store. I’m totally with you on that one- sometimes it makes no sense! I really love that you showed monochromatic white- which always looks amazing. I think we tend to forget about that and automatically pull all black. You are spot on with how the texture and detail really provide ‘lift’ and interest to the outfit. Thanks for the great post!

  7. Hmmm…looks like I am in the minority here but I liked it better with the tuck. When it was hanging over the zipper, etc. it made you look heavier in the stomach area than you are. The color worked with your hair coloring so nice. Just beautiful! Nice choices you made! I really liked the heels too. And love your blog!
