Floral Silk Scarf with Classic Workwear

Well it’s the end of the work week for most of us, and I’m wrapping it up with a classic workwear outfit. What I love most about this ankle pant and solid sweater ensemble is the beautiful floral silk scarf I’m topping it off with. This is the kind of detail that brings color to your face, lights up an otherwise dark pairing and lends a feminine touch to a menswear inspired look. Let’s check out this floral silk scarf and my classic workwear.

These mini check ankle pants have a front zipper with a hook-and-bar closure, plus belt loops. So they would look great with a pretty blouse tucked into them, too. These comfortable pants come in all manner of fits: modern and curvy, with regular, tall and petite sizes in each of those fit styles. However, I’ve noticed that the curvy sizes have been picked over significantly.

By the way, I sometimes wear a curvy in similar pants, but I’m wearing the modern fit, and they are none too tight. I’m wearing the 8 regular. These pants are currently marked down + they’re offering an additional 40% off right now. So if you’re looking for pants to wear to work or even church, you might want to jump on these.

My side-button sweater is fairly lightweight and simple. It’s machine washable and comes in an additional nine colors. I’m wearing the scarlet lily, but I love several of the other shades, including the beam blush and green alpine. The crew neck allows you to top the sweater with a pretty necklace or a silky scarf. I’m wearing a small.

This is the autumnal floral silk little scarf and it is also marked down, plus you get an extra 40% off. I think the colors in this scarf are beautifully classic, but they’re also very current. You’d find plenty of options for wearing it. In fact, it would look great with the black blazer and white t-shirt outfit I posted yesterday. I’m sure I’ll be wearing it that way some.

Little silk scarves are very trendy right now, but they’re also timeless. So investing in a pretty, colorful scarf like this is rarely a one-season purchase. I have similar scarves that I’ve owned and enjoyed for years. Ann Taylor also has this one, this one and this one discounted with an additional 40% off.

Gift Alert: (from now through Christmas you’ll be seeing gift alerts in my posts!)

In fact, these little silk scarves make wonderful gifts for the women in your life. Whether it’s a Christmas gift, a birthday present or even a Friendsgiving gift at Thanksgiving, any woman would love to receive one of these colorful little swaths of silk. And if you’re not one to put a scarf around your neck, it’s quite trendy and lovely to tie one this small to the handle of your handbag. Oh, and a little floral silk scarf would make a great stocking stuffer, too!

I finished off this classic work look with my indigo suede block heels and my taupe satchel. Unfortunately Talbots is sold out of the heels in indigo blue, but I linked to the colors they do have. I also like these suede wedge heels and think they would work well, too. Plus, they’re marked down! I’ve included some other flat shoe options in the widget below.

You’ll recognize my taupe satchel as one that I carry often. It’s pricey, but it is marked down considerably from its original price and it’s an investment piece. Still, I know you may not want to invest that much right now, so I found some other beautiful bags that are significantly less. I especially like this one and this one, both from Sole Society.

I decided to wear silver jewelry with this ensemble. I’m wearing my geo twirl French wire earrings from Brighton, my butterfly hook bracelet from James Avery (similar) and my adorned hearts ring, also from James Avery. I like to keep my jewelry simple and uncomplicated for work outfits.

Not only would I wear this outfit to work (if I worked outside of my home office), but it’s perfect for speaking engagements, church or other “dress up” occasions, like funerals, open houses, retirement parties, reunions, etc. Plus, I love that each of these elements can easily be paired with so many other things in my closet.

This shopping widget is rather extensive. I wanted to include similar pieces from other retailers and at other price points. The outfit I’m wearing in this post is comprised of the first six or seven elements, then you’ll see lots of other choices. One more thing. For some reason the Michael Kors links are not working for me. So if you’re interested in that handbag, just follow the link and then put “Benning Large Scalloped Leather Satchel” in the search engine. Happy shopping!

The post and the shopping widget include affiliate links so that you may shop efficiently and I can earn an income. Thank you so much for helping me to accomplish my goals here at Dressed for My Day. My goal is to encourage women 40+ to stay relevant, beautiful, fit and confident so that we can be influencers in our world. You, sweet friend, have so much to offer those around you. Stay engaged…and stay fabulous!

Have a blessed and beautiful Friday!

Blessed for My Day

Today I pray that you, dear sister, may continue to grow in wisdom and understanding. Let’s not be fooled by the grey hair we see in the mirror or the age spots we wish we could hide on our hands. We are not too old to learn and grow, especially in our understanding of God. Instead, let’s be women who are constantly seeking more of Him, daily bending the knee in His presence, yielding ourselves to His leadership and acknowledging His holiness and our sinfulness. Let’s be women who confess our sins so that they do not become barriers in our relationship with Him and stumbling blocks to others. And let’s give Him “permission” to stretch us, challenge us, grow us and change us. Finally, let’s get in His Word daily and meditate on it, so that it transforms us. Let’s not just get old; let’s grow up.

…making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling… ~ Ephesians 1:16b-18a

  1. Hello Kay, I am loving your blog! I love to wear ponte skinny dress pants with ankle boots. I then usually pair it with a long cardigan. But I always have a problem with the type of top to wear under the cardigan. If I wear a tighter top then my private area isn’t covered and the top clings to me and also sometimes those types of pants are tight in that area and I don’t want to show that area off ! But if I wear a blousy shirt with the cardigan, I tend to look heavy with all the fabric….. what do you recommend for this look?

    1. Hi Donna. If the cardigan is fitted like a traditional button up one, I like to wear a soft, loose fitted but not full silky blouse underneath. And if the cardigan is longer you can wear a similar silky tunic underneath. The trick is to pair the cardigan with a soft blouse that skims the body but isn’t fitted. Hope that helps. I’m thinking something like this http://shopstyle.it/l/UuxC or http://shopstyle.it/l/UuwD

  2. Beautiful Kay and very classy….l wore a scarf recently to work. I like to see more of your work wear ideas. Your BFMD is always what I need. ~Lisa~

  3. I’m such a huge fan of this look Kay. The smaller scarves are just easier to manage and don’t get in the way at times!!
You’ll see me wearing one next week so you’ll know I’m not lying…ha ha (although mine is a bandanna…but still the same concept)
