Hello gals! Today I have a try-on session for you. So many of you seem to like those. And I get it. I think it feels like going shopping with a girlfriend, so I’m all for it. Anyhow, I’m sharing my recent Trunk Club try-on session today. Yippee!

Trunk Club Try-On Session winter to spring transitional pieces

Trunk Club Basics

Trunk Club is a personal styling service for men and women. It’s easy to use and accessible to anyone. Upon signing up you get paired with a stylist (if you sign up through my links, you’ll get Shelly!) who will learn about your clothing needs, preferences and price points. Then she’ll hand-select pieces from Nordstrom to send to you in a Trunk.

Before your trunk is shipped to you, you’ll receive a preview email of your items to approve. Once you sign off on your stylist’s selections, your Trunk will be shipped to your door and you’ll have five days to try everything on. (That’s the part I’m sharing with you today.)

A $25 styling fee (waived for Nordstrom card members) will be credited toward whatever you choose to keep, and you can return the rest with Trunk Club’s free shipping service. You’ll only be charged for the items you kept. You can message your stylist when you’re ready for another trunk, or you can schedule them monthly or bi-monthly.

My Sizes

When I show a try-on session I think it’s helpful to post my usual size information. I’m 54 years old, 5’8″ and 150 pounds. I have pretty normal proportions and am an X or hourglass shape. My shoulders are a little broad and my arms a little long.

I normally wear an 8 in pants, a 6 in jeans, an 8 in shirts, small in t-shirts, medium in jackets and 8 in dresses. I wear a 9.5 in shoes with a very average width. But recently 9.5s have been a little big on me for some reason. Ok, I think that covers it!

My February Trunk

This month I asked Shelly to send me transitional pieces. I think I also told her that I’m going with navy for my neutral this spring and summer. I left the selections pretty much up to her, but I did request to try some basic nude pumps.

Here’s what Shelly sent me.

February Trunk Club Try-On Session 01
KUT from the Kloth Donna Skinny Jeans in lilac || Boden Modern Classic Print Shirt in ivory and navy spot (more available at Boden) || Louise et Cie Jordyna Pump in Odessa patent leather

These lilac jeans are beautiful and actually very comfortable. They feel like high quality, but they’re not as expensive as true high end jeans. So that’s sweet. But I’ve just decided I don’t like jeans this pale on me. I feel like I do better with the pale colors up top and the darker shades on my bottom half. But then I like white jeans, so go figure. I’m wearing an 8 and they fit well, so maybe size up? I don’t know I normally wear a 6 in jeans, but an 8 in other pants.

I love this Boden polka dot shirt. It looks classic but fun. They’re almost sold out at Nordstrom, but still have a full inventory of sizes at Boden. I’m wearing the 8 and it fits true to size. You can definitely wear it tucked or untucked for an edgier or more relaxed look.

Finally, these Louise et Cie Jordyna pumps are beautiful, but they fell a little tight across the toes on me. They are the 9.5, which I normally easily wear, so you may need to size up in these. These shoes are available in several other shades and textures, including a really nice natural snake skin leather.

KUT from the Kloth Donna Skinny Jeans in lilac || Boden Modern Classic Print Shirt in ivory and navy spot (more available at Boden) || Louise et Cie Jordyna Pump in Odessa patent leather || J. Crew cotton blazer in navy

Here I simply added this J.Crew cotton blazer from my closet. I think it completes this look nicely. I’m wearing a 10 because it fits my broad shoulders and long arms better. Otherwise, the 8 would have worked fine. But this jacket does tend to be a bit snug in the shoulders, so size up if you are broad there, too.

Boden Modern Classic Print Shirt in ivory and navy spot (more available at Boden) || Boden Kensington turn-up pants (more sizes at Boden) || navy suede pumps, no longer available

Shelly didn’t actually select this pairing, but I really love wearing the two prints together. And the model on the Boden website is wearing these pants with a navy shirt with white dots, so I definitely think this combination works.

The pants have lots of stretch and are very comfortable. I’m wearing an 8, and they fit true to size for me.

Of course, I had to try the cotton blazer and my straw canteen bag (similar) with this darling duo, too.

Black Halogen high/low sweater || KUT from the Kloth Donna Skinny Jeans in lilac || Louise et Cie Jordyna Pump in Odessa patent leather

I’m back to the lilac jeans so I could try on this Halogen high/low sweater. That simply means that it has a higher hemline in the front and a little longer length in the back. The sweater also features a nice seam detail down the front. I love this black, and it has a beautiful drape. The knit feels soft and luxurious, but the price is reasonable. And it comes in quite the assortment of colors. I especially love the blue mazarine.

Here’s a side view of the sweater so you can see the high/low effect.

I’ll go ahead and let you know that I kept this sweater. It’s a beautiful basic for my wardrobe. And it’s light enough to wear into spring, which I love. I’m looking forward to wearing it with pink, with my black pants, with jeans and even with white.

Nic + Zoe Day to Night Top in black || KUT from the Kloth Donna Skinny Jeans in lilac

This Nic + Zoe Day to Night top is another winner. It feels light and silky on the skin, hangs beautifully and has a lovely silhouette. I’m wearing a small and it fits nicely.

Nic + Zoe Day to Night Top in black || KUT from the Kloth Donna Skinny Jeans in lilac || Louise et Cie Jordyna Pump in Odessa patent leather || KUT from the Kloth denim jacket

I adore this denim jacket, especially the little bit of distressing. But I already have a denim jacket and I’ve sworn off buying another one anytime soon. Shelly sent me a medium and it works well for me.

Twill kick flare pants by BLANKNYC || Lace tie neck blouse by Hinge || striped D’orsay flats || straw canteen bag (similar)

Okay. Here’s a whole new set of clothes. These a twill kick flare pants are cute and feel very comfortable. I’m wearing the 8 and they fit true to size. But I just don’t like them on my shape. I also think they may look better on someone a little shorter.

I’ve decided I don’t especially care for lace on casual tops…for me. I love it on other people, but it’s just not my thing. So this lacy tie neck blouse was out for me. But if you’re the romantic type who likes a little lace for an everyday look, this really is a cute top with lots of potential. You’d probably want to wear a tank underneath, however, as it is pretty sheer. I’m wearing the small and it’s definitely big enough. So I’d say it fits TTS.

My shoes are some I ordered earlier from Talbots. They’re getting picked over as far as sizes, but still have them in stock. I’m really looking forward to wearing these with so many things this spring and summer.

I just wanted you to see the blouse up close. Also, you can see why I’d say you might want to wear a tank underneath. It’s not immodest, but it would look better if my jeans weren’t peeking through.

And here’s how it looks if you combine all of these pieces. It’s really a cute look. It’s just not me.

split-neck top by Gibson

For me this top is a complete miss. Not only is it too large on me (and it’s a small), but it just looks sort of cheap. And it’s not cheap! So, no.

February Trunk Club Try-On Session 014
Edgewater Colorblock Cardigan || Nic+Zoe Day to Night Top || Retsie Pump by Vince Camuto || AG the Farrah high rise skinny jeans

This Edgewater colorblock cardigan is definitely soft and warm. It’s the kind you could really cuddle up in and look sporty and chic at the same time. I’m wearing a small, so TTS.

I love the way these Retsie Pumps feel, but they’re not quite the look I want. And I’m not sure how the area right across the base of my toes would feel after a few hours in them. So I sent these back. But they are beautiful shoes, and they’re available in several other shades. I’m wearing the 9.5 and they fit pretty true to size.

My AG jeans are a previous purchase, but I sure do love them. They have become one of my two favorite pairs of jeans. I wear them weekly. I’m wearing a 30 and they’re currently marked down a little, too.

So at this point I just went back to the one item I ended up keeping and paired it with my AG jeans and the nude pumps for good measure. Yeah, this look is definitely me. And I’m really excited about wearing this sweater.

Shop this post

I hope you’ll shop the links in the above captions and paragraphs if you are interested in any of these items. I tried to build a shopping widget, but it just didn’t work out for me this time. Technical snafus and such. Also, let me know if you have any questions about these items or about Trunk Club in general.

I really love using Trunk Club. I don’t usually keep much, but I enjoy trying things that I wouldn’t otherwise have tried. Shelly has definitely helped me step beyond my comfort zone. And I have found things I never would have pulled off the rack for myself. For instance, I probably never would have even tried on this black sweater that I kept.

Blessed for My Day

Love is tough. No, I mean it’s a fighter. Love is courageous and tenacious. It holds on and doesn’t let go. Love perseveres.

Sure, there are times when love has to walk away, let go. But those cases really are few and far between. Most of the time we need to press in, hang on. Most of the time love tells us to bear all things, believe all things, hope all things and endure all things.

If you’re tempted to walk out, let go, throw your hands in the air and quit…wait just a minute. Pray about that. Seek godly wisdom and counsel. You may be just on this side of a break through. And love that perseveres is a beautiful thing. Not only that, but it’s a testimony of God’s enduring love for us.

Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. ~ 1 Corinthians 13:7

Spread the love
xoxo, Kay
