Hi girlfriend! And welcome to Dressed for My Day, where my goal is to inspire and help women like you and me dress beautifully and appropriately for our unique days so we can engage gracefully with those around us and influence them positively.

Today I’m sharing a combination that has sometimes scared me off in the past. But I tackled it head-on and I think I came out a winner. See what you think. I’m sharing a black and blue casual winter style.

I bought this silky floral camp shirt back in November to wear with the pants I showed in this blog post. And it looks beautiful with them. But I was stumped on how else to style it. So I decided to pull out the black (at least I think it’s black!!!) print in the shirt and create a nice mix of blue and black throughout an outfit.

Unfortunately the sizes are pretty picked over in this camp shirt. I’m wearing a small and it’s quite roomy. But I’m linking to several other camp shirt choices in the shopping widget below, too. I love the way these easy-breezy tops fit. And they look great layered under most any kind of cardigan.

I think the key to this outfit is giving both black and blue their fair share of playtime. Pairing the blue top with blue jeans creates a column of color under the black cardigan. Then having a splash of black at the top and bottom of the outfit makes it look pulled together and intentional.

This simple black cardigan is the only one I own to create this look, but I think this longer one or this chunkier one would look amazing paired over a flowy camp shirt. My cardigan is the same one I buttoned up and wore as a top in this post.

And of course, you’ve seen these boots in other posts as well, most recently this one with leggings. I have the wide calf fit, but I’ve linked to the regular fit as well. Unfortunately both are running low in sizes. But I’ve added other similar boots in the widget below. They’re also available in additional shades.

Do you ever pair black and blue? It’s actually a beautiful combination. So I’m glad I gave it a go. Let me know what you think!

Blessed for My Day

How do you pray when you are worried about something? Or, honestly, do you pray? I’ve had to ask myself sometimes if I’ve spent more words thinking about and talking about my dilemma or more words praying about it. Which do you think deserves more words, especially if we crave the peace that only God can give.

Today I encourage you to pray a little differently about those things that are weighing on you. Instead of asking God over and over to do what you want, why not tell Him over and over that you trust that He’s got this? I found that prayers of affirmation and trust ease my mind and bring peace to my heart.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ~ Philippians 4:6-7

Spread the love

  1. Thank you for showing us different ways to mix up our clothing we already own. I have several cardigans (from different designer’s….I use that word loosely! Ha) and I too, wear them either open over something or buttoned up. I love wearing them buttoned up. It’s like treating them like a pullover sweater. Gives me so many more possibilities, plus it allows me to bring out the color’s of the blouse, top, dress, whatever, like you did today. Really enjoy your blog and you’re doing a GREAT job of already of mixing things up and teaching us the right & wrong ways to dress our own bodies.

    1. I’m glad you’re liking what you’re seeing here, Sondra. I was thinking just this morning that I’m really tired of winter clothes, but I’m still enjoying putting together different outfits with them. And cardigans and jackets really are the key, aren’t they? Thanks for sharing!

  2. Kay, my comment today is how I needed your prayer in your BFMD. It is so easy to repeat my same request to God over and over so it makes total sense to pray with affirmation. I have been extremely stressed so I am repeating over and over “God’s Got This”. ~Lisa~

  3. Kay,
I wear blue and black quite often together now. It is a combination that I stumbled upon about a year ago by accident. I actually have a navy pair of dress pants that if I am not careful… I confuse with my black ones. I put on the black dress pants ( instead of navy) and my navy sweater and didn’t realize it till I got to school and someone said… “ooooh… I like that combo!” I looked down and realized I had on my black pants instead of navy (I was trying to go for the monochromatic style). Oh well… it worked! ❤️ Your combo is beautiful!

    1. Isn’t that how it goes!?! And really, I think black pants just go with everything!! Thanks for sharing your accidental fashion find! 🙂

  4. I really like black and blue together but for some reason it always makes me nervous because I second guess and wonder does it really “go” together. But of course it does!

I love the BFMD today. I recently heard someone say … instead of asking God why – ask Him what can I learn from this. I think that’s a wonderful way to pray. Especially since He DOES have everything under control! ❤️

    1. Yeah, I’ve found one of the best tricks to help with the second guessing of fashion choices is to take a selfie, step away from the outfit and then go back and check out the photo. Thanks for sharing, Gina. 🙂

  5. Fabulous BFMD! I’d be lost without having God to turn to, especially during the tough times. While I know that I can improve on the way I pray, I am so grateful that He hears me no matter what, and He is always there with open arms. I have not tried to pair blue and black together, but now I will be more open to trying it. Have a blessed day!

  6. Love this look. I like more tailored clothes rather than flappy clothes. Although I have flappy clothes I really like myself in a more tailored look. I also enjoy BFMD.
